Do you think that would have made a difference SW? $500 for a console is a tough bargain. But what if both were $400? Would X1 have had a chance? I ask you SW because you're natural analysts.

Price wasn't the only problem it had at launch. The DRM fiasco at the reveal, forcing Kinect and the weaker hardware.
@LJS9502_basic it definitely beat the PS3 last gen. Might not have won in sales over the Wii but it had the games AND sales over PS3 just about the entire gen. Good enough for MS and a mark on Sony.
Would've had a better chance if MS didn't pull DRM, that destroyed it. Also the design... lol.
PS4 had fun launch exclusives tho.
It might have sold more but I don't think it would have won. Hasn't yet in any gen.
lol what? I'm a PS guy but come on. Xbox won last gen over PS3, even though PS3 made an amazing comeback which led the momentum for them to destroy the Xbox One. Would rather be on the losing side of a gen with a strong comeback into the next gen tbh, and the PS3 came back (best exclusives at end of gen, fixed a lot of issues too and listened to the fans).
if the xbox one
didn't have the horrible reveal (TV, Sports, COD)
didn't have the DRM/Always online anti-consumer crap
was priced $400 without kinect
wasn't ugly huge
had more exclusives not just HaloGearsForza
had more games overall
had equally powerful hardware compared to PS4
then maybe

You forgot Kinect.

Not true. PS3 eventually did pass the 360.....

Last sales figures I saw had the 360 last....

yeah PS3 did globally after the Gen. But during the Gen 360 consistently outsold the PS3.
Don't get me wrong though PS3 was awesome but last Gen was really MS's generation with Xbox Live, Halo and sales. Lets not erase the 360's achievements over last gen because of the X1. Kinda unfair to say last gen wasn't MS's.
The key reason X1 lost this gen is because they completely destroyed their own marketing at the very start, and it wasn't corrected quickly enough. Once the market share went to PS4 it was far too late for anything else. Since then this entire gen is pretty much damage control for X1.
It was marketing that lost X1 the war. Everything else - price, exclusives, hardware, etc. are merely contributing factors.

Nothing legit and the ONLY official numbers we had showed the 360 ahead. What's more important is that it took the PS3 7 years to catch up. You know, that system that was supposed to pass the 360 the 1st couple of months after launch.
Nope. MS goofed too much with the DRM thing and Sony has a better worldwide presence especially in Europe. MS is only relevant in the US and UK as the 360 proved. Elsewhere like mainland Europe and Japan they get dominated badly. The only reason 360 was comparable to PS3 in sales lastgen is because Sony goofed as well and launched a $599 system a year later than the competition. If Sony and MS launch at the same price within the same time window Sony will always win because of its better worldwide appeal.
They had a $400 console 8 months after release and a $350 like 4/5 months after that in long lasting sale of AC bundle. Didn't resolve its issue competing against Sony but they did get on their own two feet to establish a somewhat sizeable base.
Nah, the no used games thing left a sour taste in too many mouths, including probably GameStop who help push and advertise consoles.
Side note: holy crap Sony must have sold a crap ton of PS3s towards the end of the cycle because I remember them being way behind the 360 in sales.
Xbox One most definitely would have had a much better chance and would be much closer to the PS4 in sales, but Microsoft goofed trying to push Kinect on everyone.
it would have been closer but it couldn't win . because Xbox One had a very bad publicity because of DRM Policies , too much focus on TV and stuff and lower resolution on games compared to PS4 .
It might have sold more but I don't think it would have won. Hasn't yet in any gen.

The PS3 outsold the 360. Pretty good when you consider that it released a year later and was considerably more expensive.
It´s not a problem of price, it´s a problem of MS fucking up in every conceivable way long before the console was released. It was like if MS had a meeting of the top Xbox brass and saying something like this:
"ok guys let´s make two lists on how we are going to launch our product, in one list will put the most damaging ways and on the other the most productive" somehow, somebody fucked up and threw into garbage bin the list with the the good things and left the one with the most damaging ones.
Examples:
Mandatory Kinect
Always on-line
Digital signature on games ( no lending, no renting, no used games )
All those, by the time they managed to realize they were doing something wrong it was already too late, the word of what they were trying to implement had spread and a lot of people ( like me ) gave them the bird.
Doubt it, even though I think XBONE had a better launch lineup. The lead up to the XB1's launch was a PR Nightmare.
But it would have been pretty close.

Oh yay. Another Brofist alt.

Ditto. It would have sold better, for sure. But there were other reasons pushing people away from the X1 than price.
Nope. Xbox will never outsell PS world wide. It never has. PS is the world wide favorite. And it wasn't price so much as a poorly planned policy with the console.
If Microsoft hadn't pulled the nonsense they pulled when revealing the Xbox One to the world in 2013 (DRM, needing Kinect to operate the machine, always needing to be "online", being unable to actually "borrow" a game off a friend let alone sell it (unless it was at a pre-approved store), then yes they'd be doing a lot better than they are now.

Sure by 1 million units after the gen ended.
Through the whole gen though from 2006-2012? The 360 outsold the PS3. Not biased, just the numbers here. To say last gen wasn't Xbox's gen excluding the Wii is ignoring sales, Halo and Live lol.
It would have helped but there was no way it would have regardless. Playstation has been the number 1 most popular video game console brand for 20 years. The price wasnt the biggest problem, it was the evil coporate DRM policies at first that reared its ugly head and almost destroyed public relations with the xbox brand
Considering a lot of gamers are still pissed at MS for E3 2013, and there are still people who believe XBox One still has those policies in place, no they wouldn't have won. They would have sold more consoles, though.
No. Xbox will never beat PlayStation if they are launched at the same time. PlayStation is just more popular.

by the end the ps3 had more sales than the 360 and with 1 year less on the market too

By the end of what? No official numbers EXCEPT the ones from both companies and that showed the 360 was ahead. Sorry dude no matter how much you wanted the PS3 ahead, it failed and the Wii has 1 less year as well but that didn't stop it. Keep making excuses though
