is that the reason we have yet to see a GTA game outside the US? (GTA london was an expansion pack). to be fair I dont think they would set it in the midwest or the south either so they keep rehashing locations everyone knows (new york, LA)

but do you think a GTA game would sell less if it were set in europe?

I doubt there would be much of a difference, if any.

Base it off of Australia for the irony. Then we can all laugh when their government won't let them play it without importing a game about their own country.

They could make it in amsterdam but then it wouldn't be fun because everything is legal there.

GTA in Zagreb. Croatia already has a shitload of corruption, corrupt government, but also cool nightlife during summer.

Then again, Croatia somewhat already appeared in GTA via Niko Belic, but he was a Serb. Close enough.

Nah. It's not like they're using real city names and landmarks. It would be other factors, like R* not spoon-feeding hype to everyone or a woman being the protagonist.

I like the settings of the GTA games, but I'd be open to the game taking place elsewhere if R* wanted.  I don't really questions devs that do things right, for the most part... just make awesome games.

GTA has almost always been satire poking fun at American culture. It's very unlikely to change anytime soon.

No, not at all. The GTA brand is extremely powerful. As long as Rockstar makes it, it'll sell bucketloads regardless were the action is set.

Considering their main market is Americans it would be illogical for them to change away from America. Furthermore America is always in the news for something or is somehow brought into almost daily conversation throughout the 1st world (not trying to brag, it's just that American stupidty and culture is known throughout the world because broadcasting it makes people a lot of money). It's much easier to rip on American culture as more people throughout the world understand it.

yet rockstar north themselves are based in one of the most intresting cities on earth with more history than most parts of the USA :P I'd love a GTA set in Edinburgh, mind you they throw in enough nods for us locals that it makes it all good, people in Hawick were fuming about a region in GTA V saying it'd bring bad press to their town..seriously if Falkirk or Grangemouth were area's in GTA i'd jump for joy. Im happy with the continual nods to the local area and wider central belt in their games it makes it worth buying.

I would love to see a return to London. GTA's biggest strengths include cultural satire, and amazing cities with lots of great architecture, and London, England would provide the best of both while also being set outside the US.

Making fun of the Queen, the politics, the food and more would be great starting points, while the Houser brothers themselves are English (which would make it easier for them to think of things in their home culture to use).

As a bonus, there are a lot of British crime films and interesting areas/crimes that could offer some inspiration (such as Layer Cake and Snatch). Plus, it would be the first city that isn't named differently (like Los Santos instead of Los Angeles).

Pretty sure some of us wouldn't understand European satire so that could be the biggest obstacle. And the fact that most of us don't know shit about the UK besides other than revolutionary war and a few other stuff. But nothing more modern.

Americans are more fun to make fun of, and they're also quite ignorant of the world outside of their continent.

GTA London probably wouldn't do too well nowadays. An expansion with the current cast in London performing a heist or two would be excellent though! They could make fun of Americans still, and have the added benefit of explouting american ignorance of British culture.

Win win
