My friends wonder why I would rather play WoW instead of FF XI. This game is still a lot of fun.

Meh...

couldnt get into the latest expansion. The battle mechanics really shows its age. And the game has been stripped down far too much. It doesnt feel like you are playing a character anymore, instead playing a class. Being marginally better than WoD does not make it a good expac as far as I am concerned.

So far Legion is the best xpac since Wrath.

WoD is an extremely low bar. Hence, being better than WoD isnt exactly something noteworthy.

I didnt play Legion all that hardcore though, so it is probably better for the more dedicated WoWers. But I lost interest a week after getting to level cap, and went back to playing other (PC) Games.

Its such a shame that blizzard fans are so easy to manipulate. Its beyond me how they can be willing to pay a monthly subscription fee for something that so heavily outdated and mediocre like wow.

What does outdated even mean in the world of gaming beyond tech/graphics used? innovation in gameplay mechanics is not always best for the genre. You don't see revisions of friggin Chess do you?

You say its outdated, but there is still no other MMO with a PROPER designed end-game like WoW's ... the smooth/fluid combat that makes large scale, hell even normal party content just flat out better than the competition.

I'm still waiting to see your magic list of "better MMOs" honestly... the only one that even came close to capturing WoW's gameplay spirit was that Sci Fi one ... which died off because it was "too hardcore" (cant even remember its name now.)

Can't do a review on a WoW expansion without talking about PVP or PVE content. I personally got bored with trade chat simulator back in Cataclysm and Pandaria when there was no content to play.

Just because other games are shittier, doesn't turn this shit into gold. World of Warcraft is heavily outdated both in terms of gameplay and visual. Blizzard should stop milking their stupid fanbase and create something new instead.

@thepclovingguy: Visuals? Maybe. Progression system? Probably. But gameplay mechanics? Wow is still miles ahead of the nearest comp.

I remember when WOW was brand new, and while I tried various expansions and played MMOs before WOW existed like Evercrack...I learned over time that MMOs aren't for me. Too much of a time sink and I have too many game systems to bother.

But there are games that got 9.5 and 10s...

The original WOW released in 2004 which to some users they may think you are referring to that classic game as there is no indication otherwise.

We like WoW/Legion or not , we have to give a kudos to Blizzard for providing yet another good expansion. The fact that WoW is still number one mmorpg after so long ( sales , subs etc ) is a feat of epic proposions.

And before someone think im one of those idiotic blizzboys praising every shit blizzard is making i have to say to you that im one of the most harsh Blizzard critics around. But what is right , is right.

I'm too afraid if I get into a grindy subscription based MMORPG that I'll play that and only that. I like playing other games too much to let that happen. It's not that I don't think I won't like it, I'm afraid I'd like it too much.

Heck, I'm almost too afraid to fire up Destiny for this very reason. It's so hard to put down it ruins me from playing anything else.

Problem is that MMO's are pretty crappily made to be honest, especially themepark mmos which dont even take advantage of the Massively Multiplayer bit. The gunplay in Counterstrike, has a surprisingly high skill ceiling, allows for competitive play, tests your reflexes, and may even have you adapt and outmaneouver the enemy. None of which is scripted. The combat in Dota, similarily works very well with the rest of the game's design, is surprisingly well balanced, benefits from superb variety. And there is never one optimal way to play. Both of those games hold up well, not only to competing games in the same genre, but also competing games outside their genre.

WoW and the rest of the mmorpg genre does not. The PvP in WoW is a complete joke. The end-game is a mindless grind when doing stuff outside dungeons with little skill involvement, and the stuff in the dungeons, where skill actually matters, is more along the lines of reacting in a specific way and using skills in a specific order (with some leeway with cooldown usage). The rotations are essentially guitar hero with procs and cooldowns and the bosses are a shopping list. It doesnt give you a lot of choice or flexibility in how you play, and the mechanics themselves, especially for the vast majority of players, discourage experimentation. The classes are mostly the same now, since everyone is rigorously shoehorned into dps, tank or healer. A trinity system which in itself is VERY counterproductive towards tactics. The tank de-emphasizes positioning and the healer essentially adds leeway to player mistakes, and minimizes attrition.

Guild Wars 2 was a good direction for the genre to go in, but the execution and some pretty boneheaded decisions held the whole thing back.
