Next generation starts this month dude, when the Wii-U releases.delta3074

lol technically yes but... the REAL next gen. You know... the one where games look a lot better than this one :P

Generations are defined by ascension, not by power or games.

then i guess PC has no generations

no it doesn't , you are quite correct, but for the purpose of the Metagame we use console generations to determine which games on the Pc fit into which generations, outside of the Metagame the PC does not fall into any specific generation because there has been no successor to the PC and they are not manufactured by one specific hardware vendor, there is no PC 2.

It seems every lemming is coming out of this gen scarred and hurt, and whoever you talk to says they are going to think hard about it next gen and probably end up getting a PS4.

Heck they are even talking about future games they want and how the PS controller should change to fit their new needs.

Whats the general consensus SW, common sense tells us that alot of 360 owners will in fact jump ship next gen to the devopment-team heavy SS (sony side)

PinnacleGamingP
Considering the PS3 already failed this gen (finishing dead last), I think its more likely that cows will jump ship from the failstation to other platforms. ;)

We've seen nothing of what either Sony's or MS's next console has to offer, let alone what they'll even look like.......Oh I forgot, TC's crystal ball already spoiled it for him.

going by RROD, and a ton of other hardware issues in their history, and microsofts ability not to worry future hardware consumers, its far from the same, yield rates dont pop up as news for potential buyers telling them things are pushed back, see the cell.

Incorrect. The iPhone 5 had news regarding yield-rates improving.

As did the Cell.

The article simply stated that it could be pushed back, however the article in general, was poory written. It misconstrued exactly what the issue was, for one. It even reported it months after the news was released.

So, yes, yield rates pop up in the news. However telling them they are pushed back, is irrelevant... Considering the article only said it could happen.

Anything else?

I can see that happening. Not many people like the 360 due to Kinect and it's likely that Microsoft will continue the shovelware for the next console. Not to mention that people don't like paying for XBL...

PC gaming is also seeing a rise, people are flocking to PC and PlayStation at the moment which is a good thing as that's where the quality is.

GamerwillzPS

People are flocking to Playstation? Sony's financials say otherwise.

What, exactly, flew over my head?

What has the nextbox being announced have to do with anything? You said its release (read: potential release) was pushed back, based off the article that postulated that it could be pushed back.

common sense says, when microsoft hasnt announced anything yet, the first thing is not gonna be R&D issues, but it does seem like once again there is an issue with hardware through this leak. and stop referring to the "chips build quality" as yield rate, failure rate could be used instead

Ahhhh, so now we're resorting to "not so common" common sense? Here you go. One of the original stories reported months ago.

Low-yield rates affect a number of new consumer electronics, and still persist later into the production lifecycle. Yield rates simply improve over time.

If you don't know what you are talking about, why comment?

Seeing as so many cows jumped ship to MS this gen, i'm willing to bet they will remain xbox buyers next gen also. MS will end up doing things right while Sony failes again. If you've noticed lately, MS is finalyl producing products with hardware they manufacture, rather than outsourced crap like the 360 hardware. This alone means the next gen xbox will probably be a much better built console next round. PS4 should be nice also but remember, sony is a hardware company and MS is a software company. If MS gets quality hardware then sony is left behind on the software side of things.

These aren't quotes from Michael Pachter, read the article. Also, Yield Rate is the only term applicable to this, whether you wish to change it or not. It is a part of the manufacturing process, and the faulty chips are not used. Seriously, what the f*ck are you arguing here? :? You apparently don't have a clue.

SemiAccurate are the ones reporting the yield issue.

Now, what recent articles have upgraded the term? Please link them.

Pachter's comments were regarding the potential delay, not the issues regarding yield-rates. You seem to be misunderstanding your own stance on the subject  Get your argument straight, ok?

Cite the more updated sources (multiple, like you claim). You have yet to do so.

The most recent article quoted in this forum, in another active thread, largely misconstrues the issue along with being months late to the party. In fact, the article is citing SemiAccurate, the initial site which reported the low-yield rates. Your argument is crumbling here...

Link.

Tech news siteSemiAccuratehas stated by way ofOXM that Xbox 720 will house AMD manufactured processors, rather than the Xbox 360s IBM chips. The site claims that the processors were due to enter production this December, but delays have set in.

Article

The delays regarding the yield rates... Which the site reporting the article seems to misunderstand (even though it has been stated quite plainly, elsewhere.

In fact, the OXM article it directly cites was posted on 6th Sept 2012... Here. Also, the OXM article directly cites SemiAccurate as their source... Again, the site who initially revealed the information back in... September. Meaning, your point regarding the updated OXM reportings, are woefully innaccurate.

In fact, OXM strictly state:

The problem, apparently, is that most of the chips coming off the production line aren't good enough to pass testing. That means a lot of duff silicon and a greatly reduced ability to manufacture consoles.

OXM

They are referring to the low-yield rates, as each chipset is tasted on a wafer, and those that do not pass are digitally dyed, meaning they are not up to testing standards. This is what a yield rate is, so maybe you should educate yourself.

Your argument has been demolished. Sit back and cry

The article cites an OXM article from Sept 06, which cites SemiAccurate, who broke the initial story. In fact, the newest article directly mentions that they are reporting the story that OXM reported via infromation from SemiAccurate regarding the yield-rates from Sept.

Dude, you have no clue of how awesome this is  You defend what you said, even though it has been proven to be horribly wrong. How embarassing.
