Wii U won’t see another Christmas, “nobody gives a shit” about Mario, says ex-Sony dev

Wii U won’t see another Christmas and that’s just fine, according to former Little Deviants developer Kenny Linder. He also reckons Nintendo dropped the ball on Super Mario 3D World advertising, to the point that “nobody gives a s**t.”

“Retail will have four major consoles (PS3/4, 360/One) plus 3DS/2DS to push which will all move units, and it looks like Mario can’t help even poor Wii U out. If it goes from shelves, it will be finished. I am still confident in my crazy mind that Wii U will not see another Christmas after this one. But that’s just me. The future games will just get moved/axed.

“Releasing Mario on Friday was a really stupid thing to do, it could of come out weeks before that. I wonder if the same gamers who buy Nintendo home systems (150k of them in UK) are the same gamers that buy PS4/Xbox? That might explain lack of sales this week. Otherwise, nobody gives a s***.

“Also, I haven’t seen a single Mario 3D World advert on UK TV, whereas the other two (PS4 more so, especially last night, holy s***) are on all the time. They have failed to see what the market wants.”

I think they'll give it one more Christmas before deciding the fate of the Wii U. If it's decent enough (like GCN sales), then they'll see it through to the end of the generation. Otherwise, they might pull the plug after the next Christmas (ie sometime in 2015) if the sales are really bad.

Both PS3 and XBOX360 they are continue to outsell the Wii U.And the PS3 continue to outsell theXBOX360.

He hasn't seen a Mario 3D World commercial on UK TV? I've seen a few on channels like 4Music, Kerrang, and Cartoon Network (which are all cable).

Otherwise, he'd know about no one giving a s***, considering Little Deviants got worse reception than Mario 3D World ever got. Also ironic that a VITA game developer is doing the bashing.

"Play.com owner Rakuten has claimed that Nintendo’s Wii U has seen a 75 per cent sales spike in October.

The company predicts that Wii U and iPad will be more popular than Xbox One and PS4 amongst children this Christmas.

It adds that a Twitter analysis has revealed that its Wii U and iPad range are “the most talked about presents for children this Christmas”.

Added the site: “The marketplace’s social media analysis surprisingly showed that the brand new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles are trailing in second and third place respectively behind the Wii U and iPad.

“This is despite the fact that both new consoles sold out on Rakuten’s Play.com during Black Friday, which have since been restocked. It appears that those on the hunt for the latest consoles are gamers rather than consumers buying for their loved ones.”

This guy however is about as credible as any SW poster. And his past "achievements" with Sony certainly doesn't help his case.

Of course it'll be around next Xmas, and the one after that. I highly, HIGHLY doubt Nintendo will pull the plug.

I'm not denying Nintendo is struggling like hell with the Wii U, hell, Mario 3D World is doing dreadful in UK and Japan and that was supposed to be one of the system sellers.

The **** are they doing? They seem to expect magical fairies will lift the Wii U off the shelves. I think 2014 will be Nintendo's final shot with the Wii U, and if it can't reach its games like Smash Bros, Metroid, Zelda, Mario Kart by Fall/Winter 2014, say goodbye.

1. There were quite a few Wii-Us being sold on Black Friday at Best Buy, so I think it will be fine.
2. A couple of years ago everyone was predicting the 3DS demise and you see what happened there.

My gut feeling, I have no facts other than that Christmas is a good time to buy a console as a present.

With Bayonetta 2, SMT x Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros coming out next year, it'll at least see one more Christmas. Plus with gamers getting their X1s and PS4s people might be picking up the Wii U as a companion console.

nintendo is shooting themselves on the foot.people talk about m$ and $ony being greedy, i assure u no1 is as greedy as nintendo. it ok for no third party support every nintendo fan knew that it will lack big time we buy wiiu for nintendo games. but man nes games are 5 dollars and snes are between 8 and 10 dollars and vc is laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacking so much. why is that. every week we get one old as virtual console game.

nintedo needs to stop being greedy and release all nes roms on wiiu for 1.99 each and all snes roms for 3.99 each and all n64 roms for 6.99 each and all gamecube roms for 9.99 each. if they do this they will become a classical console in which i am sure all gamers will get it to collect and play all there favourite games.

also where are the sega genesis and neogeo section. it is not even supported.

nintendo screwed big time year 2013. it was a sloooooooooooooooooow year and they made sure it was like that convincing themselves that mario 3d and a zelda remake will be enough. they have all the nes snes n64 and gamecube roms and they refuse to sell them.

beginning of this year presedent of nintendo said that Virtual console is lacking and they will do something about it, and now we r in the end of the year and they refuse to release the roms for sale, also the snes prices are going up, games started with 7.99 and now new releases like earthbound is 9.99.

nintendo is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery greedy they need to release the games they have for reasonable prices and not withhold them. i dont understands why they withhold there games. i thik they do this in order to release 15 years old games at an extremely slow pace with very high prices.

nintendo needs to get it shit together and fire iwata and bring some1 that is willing to releaase all the classic nintendo games on eshop.

The only people buying Wii-Us right now are the Nintendo faithful. Casuals have moved on and core gamers aren't interested in Nintendo's half-assed attempt at a legitimate primary console. There's no room in the market for a high-priced stop-gap system. People don't want to pay $300+ for a handful of Nintendo games a year.

There's too many shared ips between 3ds and wii-u. If you want to play Nintendo games, 3ds offers a more games, at lower prices and the device itself is cheaper. I foresee families looking for Mario to go that route from here on out.

It will "make" 2014 Christmas. if by "seeing another Christmas" means that the system will still technically be in-production and have games being developed for it.. But I already see very limited display space for it - which will undoubtedly shrink even further.

Basically a race between Vita and Wii-U to see which one dies first. Vita seems to have the inside track if you see how little space it is getting at retail - i.e. practically none at this point. I could really see Vita not making 2014 Christmas, Wii-U might be looking at 2015.

I think the Wii-U will really start to suffer when the multiplats dry up for the PS3/360. Because at that point, the few multiplats that the Wii-U even gets now will just completely dry up.

There's no reason for it to not be $100 cheaper even with the tablet.

I said Nintendo holiday's sales would be a giant failure if they did not even have a bundle to compete with the $199 bundles from PS3/360, and it looks like that is coming true. Just seemed so obvious... to everyone but Nintendo executives I guess...

Wii U will be around until 2016 at least. Whether it struggles or thrive, Nintendo has to ride it out come hell or high water.
