1 reason only:

portable game dev time.  companies are given much shorter time on a prtable game than a console game...this is bad for the psp because it is capable of making near ps2 graphics, but devs arent given the time to exploit that. (exceptions are mgs and gta)

on the ds, however, the hardware, while technically inferior, lets devs put the shorter dev time to make a proportionally better game.

No the reason is the PSP is very uninspired handheld... hey everyone lets make a handheld that looks better than PS1 and sub-par to PS2 and port games to it...DS on the other hand gives Devs endless ideas...

PSP isn't a handheld, it's a tiny home console that runs on batteries. The D.S. wins because it has the genuine qualities of a handheld, which have always appealed to people. Sorry, but if I'm playing on a twenty minute bus ride or something, I want to start playing my game right away, not go through ten minutes of menus and load times.

Everyone wants a DS. I don't know if its just the games, Price, or design. Or a combination. Developement time and cost are a factor in software I'm sure, but there is something else to its popularity. Out of the 7 people I know who own a DS, all of them are over the age of 20. The four people I know who own a PSP are all under the age of 14.

I think it's because Nintendo actually concentrates on the games, unlike Sony.

I agree that DS is reigning supreme, as they should. They are succesfully expanding the market, and allowing more types of people to become gamers.

BUT PSP is not dead, nor is it dying. It's selling pretty well actually, 20 Milllion in 2 years is good sales numbers no matter how you look at it.

I still think it is all about the price. It makes for a wide variety of people to afford it, it comes in cool colors and counting gba games the library is like 1000000000000000 titles.

I sincerely doubt (although I know you're exaggerating) that there is 1 quintillion games on every console combined! lol
