It doesn't seem like the shitty portable other people say it is. Try watching these videos from Metal Jesus and GamingVlogNetwork.

Sony appears to have a knack creating these underrated handhelds. PSP had killer apps like Peace Walker and the two God of War games, plus many gems especially from Japan. Vita's pretty much the same, only with indies sharing the spotlight. It makes a lot of sense too to own a Vita if you have a PS4 because of Remote Play. I don't get why so few have it or give it the credit it deserves. Maybe the lack of AAA titles or advertising? I also nearly forgot about PS Plus (at least 2 games a month), which one of the guys above said offered good games.

It's a great portable. But there is a lack of games. It's pretty sad because the potential is there. I use mine for classics, mostly, now.

The PS Vita as a handheld is fantastic but there is just no market for it in today's society.

Smartphones are stronger than the Vita and have made it obsolete. The few exclusives on it are good but not worth the cost of buying the system for most.

I can play GTA San Andreas on my phone for example with no problem at all. Anti-mobile gamers will say the controls are poor but their are gaming pads for smartphones now and you can connect your phone to the tv with an HDMI port these days.

The casual gamer doesn't care about exclusives. Smartphones stole the Vita's market.

Because it is an excellent handheld with a lot of squandered potential. The hate is not directed at the machine itself, which is incredible, as much as it is directed at its lacking lineup, and Sony's awful handling of it.

@SolidGame_basic said:

What? The obvious trolls aside, most people who criticize the Vita on this board such as Lostrib, darkspineslayer, or myself, do own a Vita. The criticism comes precisely because they own a Vita.

Simple reasons really. It has a severe lack of quality 1st party exclusives, lack of advertising, public perception that has no games which is out right false, and Sony billing it as a portable PS3. Most people who own it love it. Myself on that list.

Has a lot of hate but I still play mine more than even my 3DS lately because of the PS classics. All the old games look fantastic on it. If you haven't played Chrono series, FF Tactics, BoF etc then the system is awesome. I have 20 old school rpg's on mine and I'm slowly working my way back through my middle school and teenage years. The last year and half I've beat FFIX (for the 5th times), P4 Golden and now I'm half way through Suikoden 2.

Cause Sony abandoned its fans who bought a Vita most likely is why. They just straight up adandoned the platfom, they were like fack yall, we out. Captain is suppose to go down with its ship, but Sony took the coward way out and abandoned ship.

Also Sony used false advertising to try and hype Vita and were sued.

"Back in November the Federal Trade Commission, a US-based government agency, found Sony guilty of "deceptive acts" in regards to its Vita advertising prior to the handheld's launch. It posited that Sony and its ad agency, Deutsch LA, made a series of misleading claims as to the Vita's functionality, and now US folks who purchased a Vita prior to 1st June 2012 are eligible for their rewards."

Pretty shady company.

Because Sony isn't supporting it, only niche japanese games and indies come out for it anymore, expensive proprietary memory sticks, bad ports of PS3 games(Borderlands, Jak and Daxter, God of War, etc), Vita store crashes all the time.

All that said I do like the Vita, but people do have plenty to be unhappy about.

Sony killed their own hardware by making the memory cards a premium item. I might have been tempted a few years back if they were not being a bunch of cunts about it.

I've had a vita for almost 2 1/2 years now. The hardware is fantastic! I've always said that it was my favorite handheld that had no real support compared to my 3ds/ Ds. That's why I criticize it. In a nutshell, Sony is the vitas biggest enemy. Pisspoor marketing and management , expensive fuckin proprietary mem cards, not winning enough favor from 3rd parties, etc , etc....the list goes on and on. Now it's just a glorified remote with a few niche exclusives...

Thank you Sony.

The Vita had more potential to make a bang than enriched uranium. But Sony fumbled that potential pretty completely. It's really disappointing.

Lulz! Yeah, just attach a gamepad and a TV to a portable device to make it an awesome portable device. I love to carry my TV around with me but people on the train always look funny in my direction. 3DS and Vita are better handhelds than a smartphone and any other system is a better home system than a smartphone. They are completely useless to gaming and you should feel bad because of your nonsense.

Anyway, Vita is a fantastic indie system and really the only way to enjoy games like Hotline Miami without getting eye cancer.

Nah, it's a neat little handheld, but it just shits the bed in comparison to Nintendo's offerings.

I feel the pricey proprietary memory cards is what did it for me, now it's knowing there'll be no future portable plans, they retired the superior OLED. That being said, very good catalog of games. I'm holding out hope they add some PSTV feature in the PS4 to play PSP and compatible Vita games digitally.

Because it doesn't have enough exclusives, and shares too many games with consoles or a PC, which those consoles and PC have a larger group of quality exclusives in comparison to the vita. The Vita doesn't lack games per say, it's a good device, and I get if you primarily handheld game than yeah, the indie station is dope, but for someone like me it's basically worthless. It barely gets stuff that I can't get on another platform.

Oh, so one of the reasons might be the memory cards. People also brush indies (even Japanese localizations) aside too easily. The Vita IS getting support and it does have many worthwhile games, just not often from big publishers. I've always said there's a treasure trove of hidden gems out there, and I've read and seen a lot of them on YouTube and PS Blog. I guess it's easier to get into a system if you know the IPs.

@Zen_Light said:

Hmm...guess you've never seen Killzone: Mercenary. That game looks like it's on the upper echelon of PS3 games, graphically-speaking. Same engine as KZ3 too from what I've heard.

Seems like a good portable with too few interesting games for me. It's also too expensive, I've heard.

Also, what Vita hate?. I only saw some when both Vita and 3DS were new, and people battled about what was the best one.

Wow way to take what I said out of context

I dislike the free crappy games that are loaded with microtransactions. Attaching a gamepad to a smartphone takes literally less than 10 seconds. If you WISH to play on TV, YOU CAN, you don't HAVE TO.

Playing games like GTA and Final Fantasy on my smartphone is logical for me. You may not like it but that is your opinion.

Sony are the ones who deserve most of the hate for consistently neglecting the platform since it's launch. Mobile gaming fans deserve the rest of the hate.

I just wish there were more shared games between 3DS and Vita.

There's no reason why a game like Etrian Odyssey or Resident Evil should be exclusive to one system. That age is over.

The lack of support and the memory card issue is a turn off to most I think. For me, it was just collecting dust cause there were no games that really interested me in it after a while.

@LegatoSkyheart: Etrian Odyssey I guess relies on a dual screen setup. No clue about Resident Evil, outside of Capcom being generally clueless, I would say.

The Vita is a fantastic handheld but only for those who like japanese weird games, classics and indies on the go. I love my vita. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 alone were well worth the 120 euros I gave for my OLED model
