And tons more were all done by someone else before Nintendo. But Nintendo fanboys are delusional and think Nintendo invented everything. They never actually fact check.
Go ahead and try to dispute any of these. Google proves you are wrong.
I would say that it’s probably Sony. Copying the competition isn’t always a bad thing though. I think there are some very good things that each of these companies could copy from each other.
All of them copy each other when the need arise, there's really nobody that does it more than the others.

The most innovative thing they did was.....? im thinkin... Putting in a blueray dvd player, thats all i got
Really? A basic function implemented by others is copying? When nintendo implement this on NSwitch it'll be copying others? This simply makes no sense. C'mon...
sony i think. they tend to take ideas from other companies and run with them. They tend to chase initally but often they catch up quickly and sometimes surpass.
its been rare that they have really stuck their neck out on their own idea though and when they do it doesnt tend to stick.
its not a bad thing though. some of the improvements are very nice (the first dual shock was a much nicer implementation of the tech used in the N64 controller for example). PS move was, technically, a big improvement over the wiimote and nunchuck setup (they just didnt support it well...that old chestnut with sony).
the only thing is it does leave them open to getting blindsided and playing catch up. but once they catch up their implementation can be very robust.
Sony.
Other than that Nintendo probably pasted Mario and Peach theme story a bazillion times in every Mario game in their games...but they are just copying themselves.
Everyone copies someone in something. Sony copied Nintendo's motion controls. MS copied Sony's camera. Nintendo is the most original gaming company though out of the three.
@Jacanuk: People say the PS Move, and that's sorta true from Wiis motion controls. But Sony added a camera aspect to it that Nintendo lacked. Made it much more precise than just motion controls can.
Most of the things people say Sony copied is based on pure ignorance since Sony mostly had the idea before anyone else. People say Sony copied motion controls but they had them already on PS2 before anyone and without controllers and with camera. People say Sony copied hard drive on console but they also had them on PS2. Now people are claiming Sony wants to copy Gamepass as if Sony hasn't been working with PSNow for a while now... so in reality, Sony is the one which gets copied a lot. What did Sony really copy? maybe trophies?
One thing I wish Sony WOULD copy is the proper left stick placement on their controllers. If they want to keep them symmetrical flip the right one as well, but there is literally zero justification for it being placed where it is currently
Nah, I have an Xbox 360 controller for the PC and I'd rather the DS sticks positions.
Probably Sony. The Move was a blatant wii mote rip off. I think they copied the N64 with Rumble and analog sticks. Six Axis + Vita + PS4 touch pad could probably be traced back to Nintendo's gimmicks
The PS mini following on the heels of NES and SNES minis.
PS AllStars , Crash Team Racing (this may or may not have been at Sony's request )

I agree with this.
It's been fun sitting back and watching but thought it was time to chime in.
From the early results it is not Surprising to see Nintendo at the bottom. They have always marched to different beat.
A good number of votes at 28% for Xbox yet not a single comment why.
Sony leading the pack. Been a long time since they have innovated anything. And as some else put it they don't like to stick their neck out, and just wait to see what works for others.
Still think a world with Sony alone is a good thing Fanboys?

Off the top of my head.
In my opinion, Nintendo always seems to be doing their own thing while Sony and MS try to one up each other with better versions of each other's services.

I'm giving MS a pass here. Looking back on motion wands, Sony made PS move a rip-off from Wii's wand and MS knew they couldn't copy the other 2, so they at least came up with something more creative with Kinect, moving your own body without holding something was trying something new in terms of motion gaming goes. MS hardly copies anything and they sure didn't try to copy any handhelds for that matter.
Easily Sony. They saw what Nintendo has done and have since copied. Though now they have a unique set of exclusives and the last major copy cat thing they did was the move controllers. I’m glad they are going their own direction and evem staying clear of the handheld market. Sony needs to keep doing what they do well and let Nintendo comtinue with the risky evolution. Xbox is basically a pc where you have to pay for online and with 1/10 of the pc games available to play. Still hoping they work a contact with Steam someday to get more games on their market.

But then Games with gold came along...
Does it matter?
^ What he said.
It probably is Sony, but as long as they're copying the good stuff and they're also bringing something fresh, which they do, who cares.

Yeah, they sure did a copy with GWG. Even MS themselves thought it wasn't a good value at first, but they did saw an increase Gold members joining because of the freebies lol.

Hardly, Sony did it on PS2 with EyeToy

Why does xbox....even exist?
Why dose MS's highest rated game this gen, Forza exist?
What was the first console to do BC? tip, wasn't MS!
What was the first console to do online? tip, wasn't MS!
What was the first console with DVD?
What was the first console with Blu-ray?
Yea no!
@mariah_eater: only because you are used to that. Why didn't the original ps controller have the dpad down and to the right when the sticks weren't there then if that is the best spot for the primary control interface?
I'm used to both and I'd rather the DS's position.

Off the top of my head.
Right thumbstick was a Sony creation too, released with the Dual Analog controller way back in 1997.
@Steppy_76: Why do people want asymmetrical analogs? It's basically the only thing I've hated about xbox controllers. I'd genuinely rate my x1 controller higher than DS4 IF it had symmetrical analogs (love the rumble triggers) - but instead it's another crampmonster

Because they convinced themselves it makes a difference when it doesn't. Everything to try and prove Xbox is, somehow, superior to Playstation when they're both, almost, the same thing when it comes to hardware and accessories.

Notice I did not say asymmetrical. I said specifically left stick placement. From an ergonomics stand point your thumb should be in its neutral resting position at the center of the control mechanisms neutral position. On the left side of the controller the stick is used 95% of the time(unless you are a big fighter fan). On the right side of the controller there is more of a split between games that use the buttons and games that use the right stick, so you could argue for either position of the stick and/or buttons on that side.
Nobody ever answers why if the stick position is more natural, then why weren't the dpad and face buttons down where the sticks are with the original PS controller.
There is literally no objective argument you can make other than familiarity for the left stick to be placed where it is on the dualshock.

You either have weird hands or you're not holding it right. I'm guessing the latter. This might be hard to explain, but you're not supposed to grasp the handles with your entire palms. I hold it more at the top of my palms, with my last 2 fingers wrapped around the handles, and my first 2 on the back/top. In other words, it rests more in my fingers than in my palms. My thumbs rest naturally on the sticks, and I can easily shift slightly to reach the D-pad/buttons, while barely moving my hands at all. Neither position is the "primary" position. I don't understand how this is an issue. The Wii U has both sticks on top, and while I prefer the bottom, I don't really have any issues with that either. The asymmetrical sticks are what don't make any sense. I've used a ton of different controllers, and the Dualshocks are and always have been the most comfortable by far.

I haven't held an original PS1 controller in a long time, but I don't remember having any issues adjusting from it to the Dualshock. I'm pretty sure I held it about the same way, more with my fingers. I can reach either position with no effort or discomfort whatsoever.
As for the original topic, they all copy from each other. It's pretty much impossible not to.
@Steppy_76: oh, that's fair. It's probably historical - note that when the analog DS was introduced your statement was not accurate - most games used the d-pad, which puts the d-pad right where you are noting is the resting position for the thumb. That being said, I find asymmetry way more awkward than the somewhat low position of the analogs.
I won't claim any of this is "objective", however - because I think familiarity does matter, as do differences in hand size. My issue with the xbox analog is that it requires me to torque my hand to use it fully. That's not true of the DS4 placement. But for someone with bigger hands, that x1 analog may fall exactly in the resting spot you describe

That's the point, the placement made sense when it was introduced as the D-pad remained the primary control input for some time afterwards. Over time the amount of usage between the dpad and analog flipped, and they should have flipped spots at some point as well. Subjectively, like what you like but objectively from an ergonomics standpoint the DS is an outdated design.
