For me, it depends on a few things.

1 Graphics, No I'm not being shallow, there's no reason to believe that there will be any differents between the 2 verisons as far as story goes so this will be a main one. IE. AA, Framerates, screen tearing ect. ect.

2 Install vs mutiple discs. If I'm giving up another 4.6 gigs to play FF13 on my PS3 then I want there to be an advantage to it instead of just to make the load times brake even with the 360 verison. For the 360, it depends on how many discs there are.

3 if applicable, Onlne support (including DLC).

Other then that I'm good with either verisons.

360. I prefer the 360 overall to the PS3 so yeah.

It'll sell more on the 360 too. It doesnt matter if FF has a ?stronger/bigger? fanbase on the PS3, more ppl have 360s

Uh, did you even bother to see the results of this poll???

And I'm pretty sure very few, if any, of the people voting are in Japan. In other words, out of 200 gamers on here, 74% are getting it for PS3 despite 360's install base advantage.

Which ever version gets the best reviews, SINCE this is a port to the 360, most likely the PS3 version...since it was optimized for it.

Plus, I have a ton of Achievements, I could use some sweet trophies.

navstar29

Neither version is a port, its being developed on a software tool compatible with both console, check the original story when the game was announced.

The reason for the US/Europe delay is the same as for all the other FF games... translating a huge amount of text and dialogue.

.SE stated there not starting the 360 version until the japanese one is done, and its a PS3 exclusive in Japan. How is that not a port?

Because it's being written using the same PC development tool as the PS3 version, check the original story, if the 360 version is a port then so it the PS3 version... both versions being ported from the same development tool... try reading the original story, its obvious you didn't bother to search it out.

If that was true they wouldn't be devoting a whole team to making it work on the 360. They can't just put it on 360 DVDs and expect it to work.

The translation will be simultaneous with the porting of the 360 ver and may even be occuring now.

Another person who failed to check the original story... the game is not being developed on the PS3 but using a development tool that is compatible with both the PS3 and the 360, the delay in both versions is purely a translation one.

They may well have a team devoted to it's transition to the 360, but they'll havea team doing the same with the PS3 version as well... doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that one out... they'll be issues getting it to work on DVD's but the move to the PS3 won't be a walk in the park either.

No, it's not. lol. There is no way you can know that for sure, that's just a bunch of PR bull. It's a port, the game has been worked on for years for the PS3, and then the White Engine was retooled into Crystal Tools for the PORT. It's a port.

You sound as if you have a 360, and no PS3, so you have a Personal stake in believing it's not a port. i'm right, aren't I?

The FF team responsible didn't even start porting the game until recently...

FF13 Due Japan 2009, 360 PORT NOT YET STARTED!

The long-awaited Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360) will hit Japan in 2009, developer Square Enix reaffirmed at a dedicated invite-only event this weekend.

Following contradictory reports from numerous sources, the studio confirmed to Shacknews that all news stemming from the recent event was for the Japan only, including word that Final Fantasy XIII would arrive in 2009.

Though Square announced an Xbox 360 port of the one-time PlayStation 3 exclusive RPG at this year's E3, the studio has not yet started work on or even received the development kits for the port. A playable PS3 demo, meanwhile, is due out in March.

Final Fantasy XIII Producer Details Xbox 360 Port

LOS ANGELES -- Speaking through a translator, Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase explained the company's plans to bring the game to the Xbox 360 as an effort to "bring as much fun to as many people as possible."

More pragmatically, he also mentioned that the change in the title's PlayStation 3 exclusivity was necessary due to "market situation for the Xbox 360 in the U.S. and Europe."

Square Enix claims the game is still far too early in development to reveal (or even speculate at) a release date, though the company did reveal their current work schedule: First, the company will finish the Japanese PlayStation 3 version, which will then be localized for North America and Europe.

Once that's completed, work will begin on the Xbox 360 version.

Though that would seemingly indicate a delayed release for the newly-announced port, Kitase emphasized Square Enix's efforts to release the different versions nearly simultaneously.

"As for the timing between the U.S. and Europe, we will try to make it as close as possible. We'll try to expedite localization," he said.

Unfortunately, Square was unable to reveal how the storage disparity between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3's game discs would be dealt with.

He stressed the company's goal to keep the two versions as similar as possible, however, saying "the content will be the same, though the format might be different."

-------------------------

"I'd like to add... I think that maybe because it's going multiplatform that some fans are worried about the game's scope being reduced to fit onto both consoles. The fact is, the PS3 version is what's in development right now, and the team is working to specialise that version to the very best of the PS3's abilities," series Producer Yoshinori Kitase did, in fact, add.

"After that, we'll do the 360 port and optimize it to that particular hardware."

It goes on and on and on man, so it's okay, the game will be fine, but don't say it's not a PORT, because it is.

Final Fantasy PRODUCER Yoshinori Kitase said it himself!!

Would rather just get it on PC, The Last Remnant seems to have turned out quite well based on the demo. But otherwise, PS3.

Seeing as nobody can be bothered to read the original story, from Feb 2008 it's here;

which includes the following;

"While Final Fantasy XIII is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Murata said Crystal Tools has no such affiliation, and is already compatible with the PC and Xbox 360 also."

Thus... they wouldn't make a PS3 specific development tool compatible with the 360, thus while the game will be ported from the development engine to the 360, it will also be ported from the development engine to the PS3... if the 360 version is considered a port then the same can be said of the PS3 version.

The 360 version is not being ported from the PS3, if it was the delay would be even longer to optimise the game (joke).

Regardless of what the OP says it actually IS getting delayed because of the 360 version, think about it this way, the PS3 version WILL be done, and maybe it would take SE maybe 6 months to translate it, but now they have to wait for the 360 version to be made, and move the translation to that as well, BEFORE we can play it in English.

Seeing as nobody can be bothered to read the original story, from Feb 2008 it's here;

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6186627.html?tag=result;title;9

which includes the following;

That means that gears 2 and every other 360 exclusive using UE3 is a port, since UE3 is compatible with so many systems, right? using the same engine doesn't mean that it's not a port.

1. Finish the game on the development engine/system

2. Port to the PS3 and fix any bugs following the port, as it will have been written in Japanese there's no translation issues to once that's done they can bang it on the Japanese market.

3a. With the Japanese version coining it in the translation and additional voice acting can be done, with a large number of extra languages needed for the European market this is not a quick and easy process.

3b (done simultaneously with 3a). Port from development engine to 360 and iron out any bugs that appear, set up for multiple disks, no translation work needed as that done in 3a covers both versions.

4. Release PS3 and 360 versions in US and Europe.

That said going from the "more recent" reports I'll take the 360 version which, as quoted includes, "After that, we'll do the 360 port and optimize it to that particular hardware"... no mention of optimising for the PS3 there.

So Microsoft recently stated that they think this game will sell better on 360 than PS3. The smack talking never ends:)

Anyways, just thought I'd create this poll to see what happens.

UPDATE: OK, I'm seeing alot of missinformation flying around here so I'm gonna list a couple facts.

1) The game will be released in Japan first(late 2009) and is exclusive to PS3 there. The game will be released(around April 2010) in the U.S. and possibly Europe on the same day on both PS3 and 360.

2) The game is being developed exclusively on PS3 first to 100% completion in Japan. The developers have clearly stated that development on PS3 is NOT taking into account the fact that it will be ported to 360 later. In other words, the PS3 version will not be held back at all. After the PS3 version is 100% complete, they will begin working on the 360 port. The PS3 version will be on a 50GB Blu-ray and they are looking into multiple DVD's for 360.

You don't know what a port is. I provided several links man, according to you, every game ever made is a port, because all games are made on PC's first. You don't understand the terminology.

This game is being designed COMPLETELY for the PS3 specs and hardware. No exceptions. After that, they will bring the code to the 360 and optimize it best they can, it should be similar. It's a port.

I have a 360 and I avoid buying ports. Also, get your facts straight, I have more gamerpoints than you and love the 360, but I an not going to be a fanboy about it.

You said that they aren't optimizing for PS3? How many links do I need to provide you before you know you are and have been wrong for some time? People perusing the thread know, but you seem to avoid posting what my links mean. You have been COASTING on 360 only Feb. 2008 news all this time, and yet came in here an argued with posters with your lack of facts.

You said they aren't optimizing for PS3? Did you read the links? Here :

"The fact is, the PS3 version is what's in development right now, and the team is working to specialise that version to the very best of the PS3's abilities"

There, you've been given god's knowledge of Final Fantasy XIII, and just in case you didn't know, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is only for the PS3.

Between the TWO Final Fantasy Games, Final Fantasy XIII AND Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Only FFXIII is coming to both platforms (PS3 and 360.)

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will remain a PS3 exclusive.

FFXIII is however, being designed for the PS3, and when that team is finished, a 360 port will be underway.

I'll be getting it on whichever turns out to be the better version, which would be the 360 if we look at every other game out there. I'm pulled towards the 360 anyway just to make sony fanboys bitter, usually i don't care about sales but the 360 version of FF selling well would make me very happy. :)

Most every game out there, not EVERY game out there. There's some games better on PS3 (although the minority, and many more are equal), which you already know. I am here for information, have a good day! :)

It's a 360 port. FFXIII producer said so.

I am shocked at the shear amount of people saying they are getting it on the 360, something thats completely unexpected. As a multi console owner, the only thing that came to mind was getting it on the Playstation platform. Whoa times have changed, I mean I have no problem with people getting it on the 360 just shocked.

I am shocked at the shear amount of people saying they are getting it on the 360, something thats completely unexpected. As a multi console owner, the only thing that came to mind was getting it on the Playstation platform. Whoa times have changed, I mean I have no problem with people getting it on the 360 just shocked.Diviniuz

Multi system owners will wait and see what the differences are between them, if it turns out the PS3 verison will, for some ungodly reason, be the inferior version, then most people will get the 360 version, if its the other way around, they will get the PS3 version, for me, if both versions look and play identical (Which I think they will), it will come down to load times for me.

PS3

One disc >>>> Multiple discs.

The simple fact it's going to be worked on a lot more than the 360 port also leads me to believe it's going to be better in that sense too. Also, the concern that you'll have to swap discs if you back track [SO4] is pretty significant. I don't own a 360, but anyone who owns both consoles, would be hard pressed to find a legitimate reason to buy it on 360. Only real ones are; friends on 360, or preference for Achievements over Trophies

Absolutely! Thats the ONE gripe I have with SO4, other then that, outstanding game and I think its underrated.
