Isnt the story much the same in most Zelda's? I voted Zelda because anything with someone named Cloud is..............not for me.
None.
Zelda has no story and final fantasy story are like worst kind of. fantasy romance and girly.
Dont you want romance? I mean it must get tiring seeing all these grey "badass" dudes with no one to love.

"no one to love"......... "grey badass dudes"
I think you answered your own question :3
@lbjkurono23: Hey, if he wants to look at burly space marines all day long that is his choice. Don't judge.
Final fantasy stories can be hit and miss. Zelda is more of a timeline than a story line. Every game is basically the same story. I would have to vote final fantasy.

Oh crap! it was right under my nose. How could I miss it! lol
@prawephet: No judging, just wondering why he is so against romance. :P

Lol
Anyway, my answer to the question: Zelda. It really benefits from its lore, and its overall, (somewhat) cohesive timeline.
I don't know, Zelda is much more minimalistic in its story design, often repeats plot elements between entries in the series. The strength of the series lies in gameplay, and not a narrative. Majora's Mask is the crowning achivement in this department, personally. Still a very minimalistic plot, but very different from the norm and extremely open ended and left to the interpretation of the player. I love the story design in this game.
FF is FF, shoved in your face linear plot, sometimes filled to the brim with filler to puff up the narrative for length sake. Not that it's a bad thing, not at all.
I guess i like both, depending on my mood.
That's easily FF, Zelda's always just a retelling in a slightly different setting.
The hero of time needs better writers.
@SNIPER4321: So basically you're so uncomfortable with your sexuality you use video games to project a "manly" image for yourself.
It must suck being that insecure.
Maybe its the reason why likes to wear a mask.
For Zelda we have Wind Waker which is better than the vast majority of video game stories out there, but other than that one game, Zelda stories are just OK or passable. There was a hell of a lot of thought put into Wind Waker. Their use of metaphor really drove home the message about the dangers of dwelling on the comforts of the past instead of taking the risk to move forward and create a future for yourself.
It's something we all deal with and Wind Waker depicted this struggle very artfully.
P.S. Wind Waker also gets points for being the most morally grey Zelda in the franchise. Pretty much everything you're made to do is wrong because your quest giver is misguided in his focus. Also Ganondorf is the most sympathetic out of any game he's appeared in before or after.

No. i dont like romance and love.
Doesn't metro have some romance in it?
Is dark, and gritty your thing?
Final Fantasy easily wins. It is an RPG series and the main focus is the story. They are all different(minus the first 3 games). 4-14 have different stories and are quite memorable.
Zelda's "stories" are a joke. Same ****, different coat of a paint with a gimmick. You play one zelda, you have played them all. You start off in a small village, get a stupid wooden sword, get a wooden shield, get master sword, kill ganon and save the princess. Do this times 20. Terrible series story wise.
Final Fantasy!
Zelda doesn't really have too much of a great storyline IMO simply due to the fact that Link never speaks. It's hard to have an engaging story with an absent main character. However some Final Fantasy titles have had better stories than others and I was very let down by FF13.
I love both series' though!

Why wouldn't you want any romance or love in your life?
Zelda isn't known for it's story. It frankly doesn't really have one. Final Fantasy are story driven games, some of which are deep and intricate, others of which are Final Fantasy XIII. But it wins. By lots.
Zelda is more consistent, and never really gets cheesy or overly dramatic, and some of the lore stuff is cool. So Zelda is better overall.
Really, the only stories I really could appreciate in the FF series are VI, VII, and IX.
The story is the driving force behind the FF series, which is why it wins by default. Zelda is a different type of game and relies less on a developing plot to use as filler between the action.
FF has told some better stories, but it's rare and has been a while. Zelda is more on the minimal side, but more consistent. I'd rather have minimal story or no story at all than a terrible story.
Still I voted FF. To me, the series offered more memorable stories than Zelda has... though prefer the approach in Zelda since it's highly unlikely that their stories will make me cringe.
lol such a tough question to answer.

Well I'd say it's highly unlikely, even with SE's claim to return to their strong JRP roots, that FF is suddenly going to have a good story again. I'd take no story at all rather than the garbage in lightning returns anyday.

Yeah, I'm thinking their latest realization is probably in regards to gameplay and world design. Which hey I can't complain, any improvements are welcome. I doubt they even understand how bad their stories suck though.
Looking at their story telling history it seems that fun and simple always wins the race. As far back as FFVII they started diverging on this path of being overly melodramatic and convoluted. Trying to give the false illusion of depth and really cheesing on the emotion. It wasn't really too much of a problem at all back then, but it started becoming a bit obvious with FFX and then the bottom completely fell out with the XIII games.
I think every employee at SE should have to play FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFIX, Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG. Hell even throw Secret of Mana and FFVII in there.
Nothing against FFVII btw, it's actually one of my favs... I could just see the guys at SE taking all the wrong cues from that game and ignoring what made it good.

There hasn't been a Hero of Time since OoT...
I bet most people think TLoZ is all about rescuing Zelda from Ganondorf. -_-

All the stories just blend together for me when it comes to Zelda, that's how forgettable they are. The most standout for me was probably Windwaker and that's only because the world is flooded.
I don't pay attention to the story in most Zelda games, and frankly could care less about it; it's all about the gameplay. Final Fantasy plots are some of the most moronic shit imaginable.

The gameplay in Zelda lately has been simplistic as all hell, they really have to work on bringing back the difficulty into that series, maybe they should consult From on how to do Proper Sword Play.
One things for sure, they really have to switch the formula up.
