What games do you want? If you want Nintendo games....Wii U. If you want MS exclusives and don't have a PC.....X1. If you want Sony exclusives.....PS4. If you mostly play third party games......PS4.
If you choose a XB1 you can play Forza, Gears, Halo, Rare replay, Sunset Overdrive, Ori and The Blind Forest, Killer Instinct, and Tomb Raider this year. Next year you should have Scalebound, Quantum Break, Recore, Gears 4, and Sea of Thieves, and Cuphead.
Why ask here? There are way more PS fanboys on here, so you will get the PS4 as the answer.
Both consoles are pretty much the same, game wise (with only a few exclusives standing out on both consoles), so look at the exclusives and see which ones appeal to you more. Also if you plan to play online with friends, see which console the majority of them own.
@silversix_: Unless all you want to do is to stare at the console at your desk or blank home screen with no games, I'd go with Xbox One.
lol lem fever makes people say the stupidest shit. Exhibit A: the comment above. Salty here no doubt foamed at the mouth to type this comment out and in consequence overlooked that this is a new purchase, meaning there is already a healthy library(for both systems) of backlogged games both exclusive and third party to choose from without even having to buy a single 'holiday season' game at all. Plus they'll be about $30/£20 by now too.
Check out the games. The Xbox One has the exclusives i'm most interested in at the moment, but then we have Persona 5 next year, and that just wins it for me.
You want games, get a X1, you want something to look at, get a PS4, you want good exclusives, get a WiiU, you want the best experience get a PC.
^^ This... as far as rest of the year is concerned. Next year is pretty strong for all Consoles though (UC4, Starfox, Zelda, Quantum Break, Crackdown 3, Horizon etc) but fall is looking better for Xbox One IMO and Forza 6 also just came out, so there is that if you are interested.
The only objective answer to this thread is Xbox One. It has all the major 3rd party games and more exclusives than both other consoles. And I'm more of a Nintendo fanboy than anything else.
Article on GS saying the PS4 is releasing limited edition white Destiny PS4 with a Taken King Legacy Edition of Destiny (that's all expansions to date), on disc, as well as a MGS4: Phantom Pain copy on disc as well, so no vouchers, for a flat $400; that's with two high profile games. Compared to MS, who has a handful of SKUs for Madden, Fifa, Gears, Halo MCC, Halo 5, Forza 6, etc, only one game for $400. MS if they want to compete will need to amend those bundles, either through price drops, and/or throwing something else on top of the bundles. Now, not that I think MS stands a chance in hell of threatening Sony's lead over MS with the PS4, but IMO the pricing on holiday bundles isn't going to be doing MS any favors. All those SKUs will be good for in pushing sales is when they're discounted for liquidation in the months following the holidays. Personally I think they need to go back to what they did last year, promotional price cut to $330 to start, and throw in an extra game, do something like a one game of choice value up to $60 or $50 retailer voucher.
Now, that being said, I'm personally more excited for Halo 5 and Tomb Raider than what Sony has line-up up for the holidays. The stuff I want a PS4 for always seems to be just one the horizon... just a little longer... summer 2016...
The PlayStation 4 has really nothing of worth releasing to the broad gaming community (unless you're a weaboo) until roughly the middle of next year, if you're fine being stuck with something with nothing on the horizon for the next 6-9 months then the PlayStation 4 is a possible option. You asked what console is the best for Christmas and the holidays, and objectively the only correct answer will be the Xbox One, a bunch of big games just came out and there are several more on the way for the holidays. Even in that case too the Xbox One has a bunch of 2016 games on the docket, good looking games, so you need to be aware that this extends beyond the holidays.
On top of this the Xbox One will be releasing backward compatibility with over 100 360 games being compatible with more to be added as time goes on, and a completely redesigned user interface and operating system going into November.
There's only one answer in the context of your thread, everyone knows what it is no matter how hard they try to twist your arm.
Xbone is probably the more appealing console this year and next year. Sony doest really have anything so far this Gen and the Wii u is a great companion console but not a good main console
Unless you want your christmas under 900p, i'd go with the ps4
All the first party games launching this holiday are 1080P. Even Fallout 4, Mad Max, Mortal Kombat X, NBA 2K16, FiFa 16, Just Cause 3, etc... are all 1080P on XB1.

Don't forget your friends though. If most of your friends has a specific game console and you like playing multiplayer games with them, you may want to grab that game console first. It's really all about the game.
do yourself a favor and build your own pc unless you want a bad or sad 30fps experience with no aa, lack of games and paying every month for online gaming.
Research them and look at what games appeal to you and whether you want to wait for them or not adjust for what your friends play on and you'll have your answer.
You'll mostly get opinions from people here who have a solid preference for one platform and an abject hatred for the others. They'll say buy that because the others are crap and don't have the games that they want to play. You are not them and you have to decide for yourself what appeals to you.
If you want my opinion, all the consoles a shit with crap games, get a gaming PC ;)
