Too much speculation. I heard Phil Spencer already announced the reason for telling about Scarlett to address any speculation that MS would be leaving gaming. Unless the XB1 lifespan tanks early, my guess is they'll hold out as long as possible to launch alongside Sony's next system.

The only things on that list that I see happening are them getting into the VR and AR.

Scarlett will build on the X. We can see their direction through the dropping of Kinect, the Cloud and then their progression through to providing games across platforms, whilst offering the hardware to do it.

The AA batteries has to go

I want my AA batteries. You can sell the system with the lithium ion battery but it must be removable. I don't like having to connect my controller mid game because the battery died vs swapping batteries and remaining wireless.

With regards to the TC, its just going to be a faster system. Nothing more nothing less.

If it were between that and the PS4 controller, then AA all the way. I have Panasonic Eneloop Pro's that I use for all my AA needs, but my Elite controller outlasts my PS4 Pro controller at least 4-to-1 with the eneloops.

If Sony went with what Nintendo puts in their WiiU Pro and Switch Pro controllers (both of which I have), then they'd win for battery life hands down.

Not sure if it's worth it. She is hella attractive, but not my first choice lol. I guess we do have to settle for a Scartlett though :(

@lundy86_4: I also use eneloop blacks for my x1 controller. But isn’t more practical and convenient to just plug n recharge rather than switch batteries? Unless MS installs a charging ability in the controller I prefer built in batteries.

@ocinom: Yes and no. I like being able to be wireless all the time by simply switching batteries. Though if Nintendo battery-life were the trade off, i'd gladly just charge in my downtime as my PC is always on (Netflix and digital movies/TV shows).

It's definitely preference, but having to charge my PS4 consistently is a nightmare. I just played GoW heavily, and found myself charging all the time. Even worse, sometimes i'd plug into my PC to charge in my downtime, and i'd boot up with only 2 bars. I found that leaving my PS4 on standby and charging through that was faster, which just largely defeated the purpose for me.

On a more serious note, maybe it's gonna be with some AR/VR thing and the power advantage over Sony. I'm not sure they'll be willing to let go of that power performance at this point even if the system is more expensive than direct competition.

Where did the name come from? Scarlet? Really, that's even worse than Scorpio. Too many menstruation jokes in there... Maybe that will be the gimmick though, instead of RRoD it'll just start bleeding out of a port- then they can sell us Xpons and maXipads :)

@lundy86_4: you have a defective controller. My ds4 charges to 2 bars in a matter of minutes, then the rest of the charging is slower. I also make my lightbar rgb full brightness (cause RGB, man, why not) when playing on pc and it still doesn't drain very fast. I can play for a few hours no worries.

The system should be marketed as 60fps true 4k gaming machine. No locked 30 checker boarding.

I'm more surprise anyone hasn't notice Steam Machine tried this and failed.

So did OnLive and GaiKai (now PSN). It's also what MS intended the Xbox One to do as well. It was just a bit ahead of it's time instead they know it needs to be brought in gradually because people don't like sudden change.

Once they convert the masses to it's "ease of use" they'll go full steam ahead.

By the way my personal view of game streaming is very much "eewww, **** that!" but that's not going to stop console manufacturers progressing it.

as MS are primarily a services company i think they will take an approach of expanding the role of xbox.

so office 365 on xbox? done. crypto mining on xbox (backed by the azure cloud for those who want more hashing goodness..for a price of course). done. want to develop software (any software) on xbox? just stick in a keyboard and mouse and use VS365 (is that a thing? that will probably be a thing). xbox anywhere will be expanded to be a streaming service too (want to play a scarlet based game on your mates xbox one S? grand just stream it).

either that or they will just play it straightforward: traditonal controller (barely changed from the X1 pad). lots of power. 500 bucks at most at launch. no messing.

@X_CAPCOM_X: I've had 3 that do the same, so I must be super unlucky. Charging through the PS4 on standby is fine, but through my PC it doesn't. Plus, the batteries last shag-all time.

Hell no! I never understood the AA battery criticism. I love being able to quickly swap out the drained AA batteries for some fully charged AA batteries and quickly get right back to the game without having to plug in the controller. I'd be very disappointed if Microsoft stopped using AA batteries.

I also charge mine while playing if I really need to. My PC is right next to my desk, as well as my PS4 if I need to use it. Still barely had issues with battery life, unless I'm doing an all-nighter or something crazy.

2015 Purchased console (for bloodborne ofc) 1st gen controller still can get some good hours of play before I should think about charging.

My Late 2016 2nd gen controller actually has less battery life, but it still has more than enough.

Could be a cable? Idk, I just think these complaints about the battery life are overblown.
