What was the last truly great Sony published multiplayer game?

I think Killzone 2 wasn't bad. I also enjoyed bit of SOCOM Confrontation back in the day. One game that doesn't deserve to be mentioned is Playstation All Stars 😆 Ok, it not that bad I guess. Overall, Sony definitely left multiplayer to the pros. But maybe we'll see them try again some day.

Idk if it was the last great one, but I really would like for Warhawk to get a rerelease. Don't even want a sequel really, just to relive some of the good old days.

Multiplayer focused game? IDK. Factions from TLOU was REALLY good. I enjoyed it a lot.

Killzone 2 no doubt was the best MP around on PS3 hence PS3 online was free anyway. So gonna give it to Killzone 2 MP and the funny thing is, it gave Halo 3's MP a run for its money.

Lol. This game was so bad they had to freakin patch the awful aiming to complement the limbering and sluggish movements from the weapons. Killzone 2 never sniffed Halo 3, especially in MP.

I don't remember ever enjoying a Sony multiplayer game ever. Nor the multiplayer aspect of one of their best single-player games.

TLOU Multiplayer - I was addicted

Socom Confrontation, WarHawk and Star Hawk, and Killzone 2 were all really good.

But the multiplayer market is SATURATED with 3rd party games, I dont think Sony really needs to focus on MP games TBH, but I would take a new Socom......even if it was just a Socom 1-3 Remake

Resistance Retribution for PSP? It was great until all the hackers came around.

Warhawk was fantastic. I'd love a new one in similar fashion with a WW1/2 feel and actual Warhawks... not the transformers from Starhawk.

I enjoyed Uncharted 2 and 3's multiplayer on PS3, but they were clearly not up to the standards of their counterparts on other platforms at the time. They were "me too" also rans, and im pretty sure ND even namedropped "Halo, Gears, and COD" as what their inspiration was.

The closest Sony has ever come to having a unique multiplayer game that could stand next to its contemporaries was TLOU Factions.

Same only games I ever played online for are on the PC free screw paying for MP.

This. It gets overlooked because of how great the SP was but the MP was damn good.

I would say that I probably enjoyed Killzone 2 and 3 the most. Found the Resistance and Socom games to be pretty meh. The Last of Us was pretty fun. Don’t think I’ve played any others though like Mag, Warhawk, or Starhawk.

@StrongDeadlift: I feel Uncharted 2 and 3's multiplayer were horribly under-rated and one of the best co-op multiplayers of the gen. Uncharted 4's multiplayer was a severe disappointment.

I did think the Killzone 2 co-op was cool. Where you make your way thru the level and fight the bullet-spongy bosses. That's Killzone, right?

Bloodborne had MP, but it wasn't as good as in the Souls series. Still fun tho.

Most of the Sony PS3 exclusives with online were technically pretty good, even the ones that never got huge communities that had slapped on online modes, they were technically good.

Warhawk, Killzone 2, and MAG probably stand out the most. Alot of people also enjoyed Resistance 1 online. I thought Resistance 2 online was junk, but the co-op had a player base. SOCOM 4 wasn't a true SOCOM, but as a straight up 3rd person shooter it was really good too for awhile.

For whatever reason they focused much less on online for PS4. I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of SOCOM or a new multiplayer focused game. Just 1 though, I like that overall they've been focusing more on the single player experience and not just slapping multiplayer onto everything in every genre. it was getting stupid a few years ago.

I think you are referring to Resistance 2.

I don't recall co-op in KZ2, KZ2 did have a pretty solid online community though relative to some of the other games that dropped off faster (Resistance 3 and KZ 3 dried up much faster).

REMEMBER WARHAWK i wanted that game so bad was that an epic game or not?

warhawk, and it wasnt that great, it was decent id give that game a 7/10 same with mag 7/10 those were the last decent MP sony games. I don't think the made a single good MP game last gen. just a bunch of movie games because sony sucks at fun gameplay and relies on its high production and story time to make up for the boring gameplay mechanics.

If you rely on presentation and story over gameplay mechanics you wont make a good multiplayer game. That's why Sony doesn't even try any more.

Resistance 2 had one of the best multiplayer modes ever.

There may have been others since, but these are my favorite mp Sony games.

The last truly great online multiplayer game was SOCOM Confrontation. SOCOM IV was fun for what it was and if they wouldn't have thrown SOCOM in the title and just made it a new franchise it would have been great. There are also fighting games but you can find some of those on PC as well. Other games include MAG, Warhawk, Starhawk, and a few others. Yes, SONY needs to get the multiplayer side of things kicked into high gear. We are due for a new SOCOM game.

Probably PS All Stars was the last one I enjoyed, but I typically ignore online multiplayer games. Plus, they're a dime a dozen. It's such a saturated genre gamers have no shortage of choices when it comes to that.

The only Sony game I put any considerable amount of time into its MP is Motorstorm, after that, LBP for a bit, that's kind of it.

Resistance 2 is the one that stands out in my mind.

Sony should really do another game like MAG. Also can we get a next-gen Twisted Metal game?
