What systems have you purchased at launch?

The first system that I ever bought in the launch time frame was the PS2. I just had to get one, but at the time, didn't even have a job lol. I saved up lunch money to buy it! And I got a used one... which I found ended up having the blue disk issue. But anyway. After that, the only other systems I bought at launch were PS Vita and 3DS. Still a proud owner of both! What about you, SW? Which systems have you purchased at launch? Any?

Nintendo Switch. Gonna play Zelda on lunch break at work. I want to play with others using co-op, but my work doesnt allow me to play sound at lunch. I have to eat lunch with like 100 people.

The first I bought myself at a launch was Dreamcast. I also bought the following at launch:

Wii and the Switch.

Dreamcast, worked like a champ up until about 5 years when I dropped it.

The Wii U and 3DS.

GameCube, DS, Xbox 360, Wii and Switch. I bought most consoles later than release.

I don't think I've day-one'd any console ever, now that I think about it. The Nintendo Switch will be a first.

Closest I've come was maybe about a month after something's launch, which I was around for maybe the N64 and original Xbox, the Wii and PS3. The PS3s were plenty in stock, most the hype came from scalpers trying to make a quick buck, I remember at the time it was news following Christmas there was a surge of returns of unsold PS3s.

Wiis were interesting, I swear for months and months there were just reports of how hard they were to get, and I remember stores all had epic wait-lists, but I seemed to have an easy time of it. I just went into a GameCrazy and was like "do you got one" and they're like "yeah" and I'm like "will you sell it to me" and they're like "okay"; done. Same thing happened with the N64, I remember they had an epic wait-list but I bypassed that nearly the exact same way. Just ask.

The Xbox was actually a gift that I didn't even ask for. I was away at college and my mother and brother knew I loved gaming, went and figured out something cool I might like, picked up a handful of launch games like Halo, Oddworld: Munch's Oddyssee, Dead or Alive 3, Amped. Such an awesome surprise when I came home for Christmas. I was in a PC gaming craze back then and this totally sucked me back into the console world.

The Nintendo Switch will be the first console I have ever purchased on launch day. The only other one that was close was the 3DS about 2 months after launch.

I would have had the Wii, but that was because I didn't have a preorder (and was two spots back of the store's total supply where I queued), and couldn't find one at retail for almost 6 months until after launch. But when I did get one, it had an artifacting issue that kept getting worse.

SNES and Xbox One are the only systems I purchased during launch.

The only systems I recall getting at launch are the GBA and 3DS...Wii I tried to get but couldn't find for several months. Switch will be the first time I get a system at a midnight launch which will be awesome.

the DS: like an idiot i traded in some great gamecube games to get the DS like zelda WW and matroid prime. at launch the DS wasnt great. it was only when the DSLite with prime hunters and mario kart came out that the DS really got into its stride.

the PS3. well pretty close to launch. sony were phasing out the 60GB PS2 BC model so i nabbed one before they dissapeared. bit of a waste.

the wii: i had to have it. loved that console. probably the only console i dont regret getting at or close to launch.

I bought a GB Advance, DS, Wii, and Wii U within the first year on the market, but I didn't line up on launch day.

Xbox (original), GameCube, PSP, 3DS, Nintendo Switch (plan to resell though).

I did get the PSP Go at its launch. Idk if that counts despite its digital emphasis and removal of the UMD.

Dreamcast as well........still works to this day. Love to know other consoles that have lasted 16+ years. :D
