What is the greatest second place console of all time?

I was too much of a Nintendo power card carrying sheep to pay a ton of attention to Genesis... Though I did end up owning it for a few of the better games... Along with TG16 (bonks adventure was awesome). Eff sonic though, horrible character, horrible franchise. Not one game I care for.

My personal tastes, probably the original xbox... It was a beast of a console from a hardware perspective, it had exclusive independent Bioware support (still the only Console to be home to the GOAT (KOTOR) and xbl was a revolution to my consolite mind. I also loved that it made the GameCube and ps2 look like little watery bitches by comparison when lining up games like Splinter cell against it.... Beast console...

It even had a few of the best genesis and legacy console games on it in downloadable form.

Too hard to pick.

And LOL at anyone saying the 360. PS3 has sold more worldwide and that is a fact.

Naaah. I think Xbox was more powerful but not by much, both having edges in area's. In fact there is evidence pointing to gamecube being stronger, Star fox adventures being 60fps while Conker is 30fps for example. Of course there is evidence for Xbox as well, but again they both have advantages. I also think the xbox was pushed less than the cube.

And Resident evil 4 was the most impressive realistic looking game that generation.

Gamecube was pretty close to Xbox in power while using a lot less energy in a small package, and had faster load times than Xbox - definitely the better engineering feat. Basically they did similar things but the cube does it with a lot less.

Wii being more powerful than xbox is proof of gamecube's superior architecture, seeing as Wii and xbox have basically the same clock speed.

I said for me personally... not in terms of sales figures.

I've honestly never thought of the Genesis as a second place console.

But it is either that or the N64.
