Ever play a great game and go "Damn, with the amount I've been playing this and how much fun it gives me, and how much satisfying depth it has, I would've easily spent $100 on it."

For me, I'd have to nominate Blizzard's Overwatch. That game was only $25-$30 at the time when I bought it, and the amount of characters to learn (all play differently), DLC maps/events/new characters (all free!) is incredible. I've poured over a thousand hours probably (I'll have to go back and check. Do I want to?)

It did have Loot Boxes but it was all cosmetics like costumes, Voice Lines, sprays and Emotes. Nothing to give you an advantage on the playing field, unless some of the Summer Skin outfits made you feel sharp & sassier (Stupid Sexy McCree).

And Blizzard has been fully supporting it by expanding the lore with high quality, almost Pixar-level animated short films, as well as keeping the eSports scene alive. Say what you will about Blizzard, but I think they've done a good job here with Overwatch, considering they've never made an FPS game before.

It would be easy to say fortnite but it's slipped the last 6-8 months for me. Witcher 3 brought for £10 on Xbox one put in 104 hours. Then brought game of the year edition £9.59 on Ps store sale another 100+ and dlc to play through.

Just basing it on the amount of time spent it would probably be Monster Hunter World for me closely followed by Gears of War 4.

Overwatch. Play it regurlarly since it was released.

Binding of Isaac. Probably have over 1000 hours invested in that game.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Got over 600 hours.

Street Fighter V - Between playing and watching tourneys it has given me 3 years of multi-media entertainment and is what I consider one of the best games of all time. Easily the best fighting game out there.

Fallout 76 - The greatest gaming community Ive ever been a part of, and an ever evolving wasteland really keeps this game going. Ive never seen friendlier randoms in a game before. Content keeps coming, and I can see myself playing for years.

@goldenelementxl: That's just insane. No game is worth that. Especially not bare bones games like Fortnite. But you seem rich, I get why you don't care.

@enzyme36: I think I put in nearly 700 hours into MHW and have really enjoyed that time. I’m pretty hyped for Iceborne and will definitely be adding quite substantial time with that as well.

It's really 3 games that gave me more value for the money this gen has to offer me and they are:

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt-The ultimate single player experience like none other! I have played that game like 4 times already and this game is big I tell ya, more value for the money I payed for and this includes Heart of Stone and Blood & Whine.

Horizon: Zero Dawn-Probably my all time favorite PS4 exclusive as of this gen, this game was a fresh of breath air and I just love the gameplay too. Killing Dinobots and a big bird was alot of fun.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate-It's my most played Switch game as of now and love playing fighting games, so Ultimate is my ultimate Switch game of this gen.

As far as MP goes, the only MP stand out this gen for me was Overwatch & Destiny 2 I both enjoy.

Witcher 3. I put a decent amount of time into the PS4 version, but I have the PC version plus DLCs now, and i'll be diving into those at some point.

Divinity: Original Sin 2, this gen. $35 on Kickstarter for 312 hrs of gameplay so far (halfway through another play-through right now). Not a bad deal at all.. especially for a story-based game I've only played single-player.

Hmmm, good question...

Toss up between Super Mario Odyssey, Forza Horizon 3 & Forza Motorsport 7 I think. I've put a lot of hours into all 3.

Witcher 3 wouldn't be far behind.

Based on play time (Over 100 hours):

Dark Souls 3 (256 hours)

Nioh: Complete Edition (283 hours)

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (931 hours)

Monster Hunter Generations (306 hours)

Monster Hunter World (250 hours)

Bravely Default (157 hours)

Mad Max (118 hours)

Final Fantasy XV (331 hours)

The Evil Within (115 hours)

Skyrim (This is tricky since I can't pinpoint hour many hours I truly put into this game. I know it's well over 3k from actual play time, managing mods, and attempting to create my own mods)

Over 2000 hours in Dark Souls (PS3 and then PC) and 1200 in Max Payne 3. Battlefield 2 was also very high back in the day.

There have been a bunch, but pretty much all games I play are worth it to me because I know exactly what I like, and I stick to what I like. But here are a few standouts:

Divinity Original Sin 2

Persona 5

FO76 + FO4

Skyrim VR

Borderlands 2 VR

Firewall Zero Hour

Wasteland 2

Wipeout Omega

Dark Souls III

Bloodborne

Persona 5 gave me well over 100+ hours of satisfaction.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the game that keeps on pleasing to this day, and well over 100+ hours as well and still have not obtained all of its content.

Bloodborne. I don't know what to say - I love From Software games, and Bloodborne is one of my favorites from the studio next to Dark Souls.

SP would be GOW or still Skyrim for this gen.

With exception for my initial Destiny addiction, I'd say the PvE online modes for Halo 5 and Gears 4 have been the most addictive and I still play them. Play Halo 5 more because matches are shorter, Gears matches can take a long time to complete considering people don't quit in middle of it, but they've been offering the 25 wave matches which is nice.

Eh. It's his money; he can spend it on anything he wants.

Thing is, he probably has got hundreds or maybe thousands of hours of entertainment from it, that easily pays for itself and having the characters he wants looking good makes the game more fun.

Yes its his money and he can spend it on what ever he wants. However people like him show developers that they can get people to spend stupid amounts of money on things we used to get for free.

That's my issue with gamers these days.

PS...how would you get hundreds or thousands of hours of entertainment with skins when you're looking in the distance/behind you etc to find people to shoot as your attention is mostly looking away from your character lol.

In terms of hours: Persona 5, the Witcher 3, the Yakuza series, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Nioh, and RDR2.

Bang for its buck: Sonic Mania, which I've beaten over 20 times across three different systems. I think the base game was only $20 too.

The updates, patches, content etc in Fortnite is like nothing we've ever seen before. Look at the game compared to PUBG (still a mess) Apex (stale), COD Blackout (both stale and a mess) and the other smaller BR's Fortnite Battle Royale has been out for 2 years and it's still HUGE. It's because of the content. No other game can match it. 2 years, 10 seasons... The dev team is nuts.

This is my issue with niche message board gamers these days. Y'all are out of touch.

Without questing it's been Breath of the Wild. I've played it for around 300 hours now and probably had the best time playing a game this generation. So that has to be my pick.

Also want to highlight I've been blown away by Nintendo's DLC. The expansion packs for Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, Zelda and Smash have all been so worth the money. Nintendo and CD Projekt RED may be the only two big companies in gaming that do expansion DLC right.

---

Perma-mute/hide should be an option in games like Overwatch for people who just want to play it as a fun game and not a serious sport. I liked the game until people started interacting.

Between No Man's Sky and Dreams early access. I already have hundreds of hours in each, and the best of them have yet to come :)
