If lems care so much about power and the graphical advantage over ps5 then what exactly is the point of the Xbox series S? Yea it's probably going to be pretty cheap but it's going to be instantly outdated on release and hold back Xbox series X's games graphically in a way because the games have to be able to run on both consoles as well as the original Xbox One I believe. Just look at how crappy Halo infinite looked for example. I just don't see who is really going to buy this when people could get a dirt cheap used Xbox one X or PS4 pro which is similar in performance. Is any Lem here actually going to get an series S over the series X? Honestly, I doubt it.

@Fairmonkey: The point is for you hermits/cows to talk about Xbox, it seems to be working lol.

What is the obsession with gaming devices you never intend to buy? now that's a better question.

Dunno. Sounds like they're cutting it kind of thin. Just have to hope MS has thought through the specs carefully if they've decided it will be enough. Kind of sceptical myself but then, I'm no hardware expert.

Well not everyone has a lot of money to spend on hobbies or material possessions so giving them an option for less which still allows them to play the latest games is a good thing for the gaming community.

The point is to play the same games at 1080p without having to buy an expensive console.

So they can enter proper next gen games at 1080p and cheaper.

I can't remember where it was posted but wasn't One X estimated around 7 mil? If that's true then only a fraction really cares about power to buy a One X.

It can also be a nice entrypoint towards an investment and transition to an eventual PC buying decision if they don't want to get a Series X, Series XX/Pro.

I think a large majority of XBOX gamers will have a series S while pretending they have a series X to big up Xbox on forums like these.

@rzxv04: I get the pincer pricing idea and on paper I'll totally fight for it. The only question is will the GPU and RAM cut still provide enough horsepower to deliver lower res gaming (which I reckon is a fine goal) without sacrificing anything else. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chip in, but for now, I'm on the fence.

I think the point of the S is retarded system wars not being everything there is and some people might appreciate a lowered price point.

Hahaha, That's a great take my friend and love the thought of lems pulling the hermit card claiming on SW they all have the powerhouse system XSX but in reality they're sporting the economical XSS. lol :P

It's a cheaper entry level upgrade to next generation if the price is 299 then it will appeal to some me included.

Because people on this board aren't the target audience.

Casuals outnumber us 2 to 1 (3 to 1 if you include mobile)

Not everyone wants or can afford the top model.

This is why the iPhone 11 and SE outsells the Pro

Also why SE models on cars exist

Sure, the hardcore wants the best.....but it just isn't affordable for everyone.

@sakaixx: true, but my point was more about price and entry level options.

The Pro only has 2 cameras, SE also missing software feature.

Both are significantly cheaper than Pro, SE even more so.

They have options because there's a market for it.

Accessibility, if you want the power then the Series X is more appropriate, but if someone just wants access to the games cheaply, or if they don't even have a 4K display, the Series S is fine.

At least I have heard it asserted the way the Series S/X are designed is to make development for Series S/X versions of games identical, with developers only needing to concern themselves with the resolution difference.

I don't go making threads about PS asking questions about it when i'm totally not interested in it now am I.

Go to the main page of SW and look how MS/Xbox threads there are and see how many are made by lems, the answer is probably 20 threads and 0 made by lems.

So would you make a thread asking questions about something you don't care about?

@navyguy21: but the core experience is still the same. The Iphone SE still uses the same A13 chip that powers iPhone Pro and 11. You still game at max setting in SE as in Pro and 11 unlike the drawbacks of Series S compared to Craig (Series X).

It's the GamePass / budget model.

I don't particularly think it's the killer strategy lots of people believe it to be but, we'll see how it turns out.

The point of releasing Xbox Series S (XSS) is for it be more affordable to the average consumer and assuming XSX is going to be price $500, I assume XSS will be price $400 is what it looks like coming from MS so they can more consumer into buying next-gen consoles.

In my opinion, it shouldn't exist. Let me put it this way, I have no issue of its existence, but the fact it does is hardly the problem. XSS should have been a diskless console and not reducing the specs is what it should have been.

My guess is it will contain a lower spec APU that's designed for 1080P 60 and by the looks of it no Blu-ray drive.

It will be far more powerful than the One X, that's for sure.

To me, the Series S confirms that the Series X will be expensive. Microsoft will not undercut the PS5 w/ the Series X. They'll match it at best.

But consoles get all the latest games and run them better than budget PC's. A sub $500 PC won't even run the latest AAA games at 1080p lol.

FPS takes far more skill to play with a controller. You actually have to aim instead of pointing and clicking. It's more satisfying to shoot guns with triggers instead of a mouse click.

you mean having auto aim is skills?? LOL!!

console ruined many old PC FPS games. adding iron sight and auto aim.

play something like Doom and Doom Eternal with controller and see. they would be unplayable with controller.

Keyboard has hot keys 1 2 3 and mouse have scroll up and down to switch weapons instead of giant weapon wheel or just having 2 weapon limit.

Playing an FPS with a mouse is as easy as closing a web page. Bad players with no skill prefer doing it that way.

Also you can turn aim assist down or off. I turn it way down on most games because it gets in the way and will start locking targets you're not focused on. Try using a controller with no aim assist and then tell me kbm takes skill.

Controller is not made to play FPS games. thats why FPS suffer when they build around with controllers.

Try playing some real FPS than talk if playing as mouse is easy or not. but playing as mouse is satisfying unlike playing with controller.
