Do you keep them? Sell them online? Back to a retailer for an in-store credit?

My brother is a retro gamer so I usually pass on whatever old console I don't use to him and he either keeps them in a nice and clean storage room or he uses them with his CRT or plasma TV.

Cold storage, sell, give to anyone who wants it, or in one specific case, somehow randomly lose it on a flight to England.

Still have my Ps2 collecting dust for the last 15 years. Heck I had my nes till 2019 and that collected dust for almost 30 years before I disposed it when my old CRT TV stopped working. Hadnt played it or anything just didnt sell if off in case I ever felt like playing it.

I have my retro stuff boxed up. No need for it since I have a MiSTer setup.

Traded my PS4 away for some goodies after I got a PS5.

Still have a PS3 kicking around in my setup, haven't used it in quite a while tho.

PS1 and N64 are the tricky ones. Sure emulation works fine, but I'd like to either have an FPGA implementation or an HDMI hardware mod. We might see a PS1 FPGA implementation, but I think the N64 is out of reach. Unfortunately the N64 HDMI mod kits are also out of reach because the people who designed them won't release the fab details and can't keep up with demand.

I use to sell/trade them before but since Gen 6 and 7 I’ve been keeping my systems and games. Some I have packed away right now, some are still hooked up.

I'm a collector so I keep em all and try to preserve them in the best condition possible. Been collecting since I was around 10 years old. Clearly, Pokemon stirred something up in me 😆

Either sell them, or they collect dust in a cupboard somewhere.

While nothing quite matches the experience of playing retro games on the OG systems connected to an actual CRT display, it's just so much more convenient to have my entire retro collection on PC and running the games with CRT filters. Nowadays, CRT filters have advanced to the point where they look very good on a 4K OLED display.

I usually give them away. I still have my xbox 360 though. And I've got a 37-year old Colecovision stored in a box. I wonder if the thing still works.

  • my PS3 I gave to college flatmate
  • my PS4 I gave to a friend

I hang on to them unless the new system is fully backwards compatible, like I sold my GameCube when I got a Wii, my PS4 Pro when I got the PS5, etc. But I don't adhere to this rule all the time. Like I still have my DS even though I bought a 3DS, my Wii despite owning a Wii U, and some others.

I do this now because I regret being rather sell-happy back in the day, trading in consoles to GameStop for quick cash (well, quick store credit) when I was a kid. Ugh. Totally wish I could go back and stop myself from doing that.

Since I consider video games disposable entertainment and not worth collecting, I sell my old systems when I no longer have any interest in them. It is not just video games, but also smartphones and other electronic devices.

@girlusocrazy: Right, duh. Forgot for a second that the Wii U can't play GameCube games. That's why I ended up keeping the Wii. Never had a GBA player for the GameCube and never really had an interest in getting one so I was okay with getting rid of it.

Mainly give them away. I still have my fat PS3 and a 3DO. The PS3 just crapped out, and I don't feel like trying to repair it. And the 3DO hasn't been used in over a decade, so it's probably dead too.

I keep them and most of my old consoles I left behind are at my mom's house/garage so whenever I get to go visit her, I'll see what to take and store so yep, I like keeping my old consoles since publishers don't seem to care for preservation games like Nintendo for example.

Keep them. I wanted to get a house and make a game room to hook everything up but this housing market is crazy. Houses smaller than my parents house(which they paid 200k in early 2000s) are like 700k….

For now, most are in the closet. PS3 and Wii are hooked up. Played Mad World last week. Great game!

I usually keep them. I've sold a few I'm genuinely done with directly to another human who I think will love them (e.g., my SNES). The only I've traded in for credit was my og Xbox to gamestop. After the disk drive failed AGAIN on it, I'd had enough. Mostly redundant with my PC anyway. So I ditched it and bought some more ps2 games with the credit

Stash em.

I've never had a game system or game that's worth it to sell. Got a couple games I think I can sell for around 100 bucks each. But who needs a couple hundred bucks that much? Much cooler to continue having the games around.

Yeah it's nice having a library to be able to walk in, or as I think of it: a wine cellar.

@R4gn4r0k: lol. Yeah, I love checking out my old shit for trips down memory lane. That's worth more to me than the money I'd get by selling. And I mean, the things I have that can be sold aren't gonna go down in price either.

They usually end up in a box... I always say to myself, "save it and play it later!"

Then 5 years goes by and it never left the box...

So far though in gen 9 I've got the best value in gaming....! It's called a launch ps4 and it's as relevant (maybe more so given its library) than ps5 so no need to box it up yet.

I'd still bother to play the games I have bought for the systems because If I put in more than a 1000 dollars worth then the system alone even after they stopped supporting them ,would I make a point to let it collect dust? Nah, my backlog is too much to do that
