What 2019 games you are expecting a Masterpiece?

In this thread we will discuss about upcoming potential masterpieces this year. so friends, what games you are expecting this year to be a masterpiece?

To me, Im expecting only 2 games of 2019 to be a Masterpieces and they are

Doom Eternal and Dying Light 2

Doom Eternal will be undoubtly a Masterpiece even if it become 10 percent improved over Doom 2016 which is by far best game release this year. with set on earth, no arena lockdown, new engine and destructable demon and sword. it will be game of decade to me.

Dying Light 2 on other hand was the game i didnot expect anything until i saw last year E3 and was completely blown away by it. its one of the most unique game in most unique setting i have ever seen. the modern dark ages and story looks amazing. it looks alot like immersive sim especially when chris avellone is leading the game. no one expect sequel to mediocre generic zombie game looks this amazing.

theres other games i am expecting to be good or great. Im expecting Rage 2 which is releasing in week a good game but certainly not masterpiece. there something i may not impressed by it. infact id style gunplay is only thing that make it good. so it will be great 8/10 game to me. and if it get more than 8 i will consider it overrated.

Im also expecting Star wars jedi fallen order good game because Respawn knows how to make linear single player games. and we are lacking linear SP games today.

Although I consider Metro Exodus somewhat a flawed masterpiece.

DMC5, RE2 and KH3 are definitely this years top hits for me.

Dying Light 2 was the best looking game last year, at least I was most sold on it and wanted it more than anything else since then. And coincidentally that trailer for Doom Eternal was epic as well. I imagine Ori and the Will of the Wisps is gonna be another masterpiece, like how Super Metroid was to the masterpiece Metroid (NES).

As for other masterpieces, I think Gears 5 is gonna be a hit and not that fake kind of hit that was FH4 was. It just took Xbox over 2 years to catch up to where PS4 was in 2017. I'm not a huge fan, but I like cover shooters and the trailer made it feel like its gonna go places we wished we went 5 years ago on Xbox.

I forgot Gears 5 even coming out. I mean its going to be same cover based TPS now featuring Female lead instead to apeal reset era users.

I don't think anything this year will top Sekiro for me. There's nothing really I'm that excited to play. Gears and Doom are the games I'm looking forward but not that much. And Astral Chain, but I'm expecting it to be a mid tier Platinum game.

This year has been alright but I don’t see any game coming out for the rest of the year being totally amazing.

Kingdom Hearts 3, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 are already 10/10 games for me. But the rest of 2019 do not look so great.

Judgement will probably be at least 9/10 game for me (because most all the Yakuza games I've played on PS4 did). But other than that? Sure, we have Pokemon, but most Pokemon games weren't 10/10 for me, more like 8/10. Samurai Shodown looks decent, and I don't think I'll buy Catherine Full Body, the original while was a 10/10, was enough for me.

But at least the first months for the year were amazing.

Too many bugs and longer cutscene prevent it from being otherwise its one of the best FPS of this gen.

Ghost of Tsushima. TLOU2 will not be masterpiece of 2019.

Samurai Spirits doesn't need to try very hard to be a better game than Mortal Kombat 11.

It probably will get a lower score for focusing on polished mechanics than "a movie" with lots of "shit".

Got to expect TLOU 2 to be a master piece. I'm expecting Gears 5 to be an improvement but not a masterpiece.

Rule of thumb:

You should never go into a game "expecting" a masterpiece.

Just say what 2019 games are you most hyped for to keep yourself level headed instead of using words like "masterpiece" before you ever touch the game.

2019 already delivered a little something for everyone. I doubt anything else this year will be all that exciting tbh

1st half of 2019 > 2nd half of 2019

For me these games have already made the “Masterpiece” list for this year:

- Kingdom Hearts 3

- Resident Evil 2 Remake

- Devil May Cry 5

Upcoming games that I feel will also make that list are:

- Gears of War 5

- Cyberpunk 2077

- Bayonetta 3

- Death Stranding

Of course I’m assuming that all those games are coming out this year which they may or may not.

Don't know about "masterpieces," but I'm looking forward to playing Judgement, Shenmue III, Bloodstained, Doom Eternal, and Streets of Rage 4, plus I haven't played DMCV or Sekiro yet. I would suppose SoR4, if it comes out this year, has the greatest chance for being all-time great, but I am a little concerned that it's going backwards in the gameplay department from SoR3 and SoR Remake.

Rage 2 should be pretty good

Fire Emblem should be a tactical rpg masterpiece

I truly do not understand this board's obsession with Doom 2016. I must be missing something. I thought it was slightly above average.

I still haven't played Sekiro yet but that Doom Eternal, and Ion Maiden are what I'm excited to play.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

HAH I kid, like f*ck are they gonna be released anytime before 2022.

Hopefully Cyberpunk 2077 delivers. I have high hopes for Gears 5 as I really enjoyed Gears 4. There's also the new Ori game. Doom Eternal will also be one I have hopes for considering how much I loved the last game.

As for Dying Light, liked last game, not sure what to expect from this one though. Will the world adapting to player choice be meaningful to me, just not sure yet. Also, are they limiting zombie presence? Seems like lots of changes coming with the sequel. I hope I like whatever they are making.

Depends how you define masterpiece, personally speaking, Division 2 is my 2019 masterpiece...I still play it regularly, don't know when I will tire of it....deep endgame, ongoing support.

I'm pumped for Gears 5, and Ori 2, both have potential to be masterpieces, but it's hard to say.....I loved Gears 4, I don't consider it a "masterpiece", so we'll see about Gears 5. DOOM will be great, Rage 2 I don't know but I'll probably get it, it's getting good buzz overall and I like the setting, first game was cool but I never finished it.

Bloodstained is another I'm looking forward to, will it rival Symphony of the Night? Can't wait to find out.

Half Life VR and Last of Us 2. I expect these will go head to head for GOTY. I don't have faith that Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing this year, but otherwise I'd include that.

I think it has a lot of potential... especially considering that Kamiya is supervising and one of the main guys that developed Nier Automata is directing.

It is going to be freaking amazing.

LOL at people hyping up Shenmue 3. I am a kickstarter backer and love the series, but it’s not going to be a masterpiece lol. I know exactly what I paid for. I paid for a sequel to a 20 year old series by average developers with a small budget.

I got shenmue 3 because it will be “good” and niche for me. I expect a 7/10 quality game and I will be happy if it gets close to that.

Best of the best will be Dreams, but like in previous years, between indies and AAAs, there will be tons of amazing games.

I'm most looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 which I think will release in 2019. Fingers crossed. Looking forward to Bloodlines 2 and the Harry Potter game WB is working on. Also, the new DC game. Starfield also, I first need to see the game in order to judge it properly. Hopefully all those three games will be at E3.

I'm very excited for Daemon X Machina because I dig its style, and think it will be better than people expect it to be because they have gotten pretty good feedback on what to work on. But a masterpiece in the eyes of the people? Hmm.

I'm not sure about Astral Chain because we've seen so little about it, but that could totally be a big one this year. It could even be the biggest one... We just don't know! But they have all the right people working on it.

And I think Bayonetta 3 will be 2020, otherwise that would be for sure on this list.

Oh! And I want to see Windjammeru 2! I think that game could be AEWOMSE1
