Having emotions aint a bad thing and having recently finished metal gear solid 4 from 3 all the main games to 4 My heart and emotions were ripped, punched, torn, and finally laughed out into existence (especially with what otacon goes through,) and made me wonder what game made you emotional? I have plenty, witcher series, halo 4, metal gear, bioshock, kotor, mass effect, ETC.

Before Call Of Duty started "war is awesome bro", it had a wonderful section Pegasus Bridge section where soldiers overwhelmed had to defend (a bridge) when sad music starts rolling in towards the last 2 minutes. It's all heroic and stuff.

This as well.

Unlike most video games, most of the drama and the emotion comes from real life scenarios and situations, not from zombies, aliens, or white haired men with big swords.

The beginning of Episode 4 is something you just do not see in gaming.

Definitely! Also both seasons of Walking Dead (especially first), Ori & the Blind Forest, Brothers: Tale of Two Sons, end of Halo 4... to name a few.

And of course, the end of Half-Life 2 - Episode 2.

I'm not really that kind of guy but maybe Journey? At least the first couple times you play through it with some unknown person and you really don't know the game yet. I always had a major emotional attachment to my play throughs of Metroid and Super Metroid but my imagination was working overtime in those games. They just invoked something beautiful to me. LOL. A lot of JRPG's are going for that but I tend to laugh at them more than actually buy into it all. I loved my mates in Phantasy Star II though and was willing to die for them if need be, LOL. Oh, and MGSV. Quiet was like my wife for a bit there and I couldn't ever bring myself to play that dreaded mission. Butterfly in my emblem always.

End of MGS3 hit hard. And i just played journey the other day. It was emotional to begin with, but finding someone else playing towards the end and finishing the game with them really hit home. Which i suppose is the point of the game.

Clannad - The most heart-wrenching, tear-jerking video game ever.

Steins Gate - The characters are so well-written that you can feel their emotions when the going gets tough.

Alundra - In terms of how many major characters get killed off, I can't think of any other game that comes close to this.

FFVII Crisis Core - Knowing how it ends (from FFVII) actually made the ending more tragic.

There's a tragic scene in FF7, but that scene has become very spoilerific on the internet nowadays. You could wait it out for the remake, but I'd recommend just playing the original in the mean time.

FF7 had a big impact on me I remember at the time. Mass Effect trilogy had some extremely tense, thrilling and emotional scenes. I really immersed myself into the Mass Effect dialogue system and with a little bit of suspension of disbelief, it felt very cool.

Dragon Age Origins had amazing character development. Very much enjoyed the story and replayed it 6 times to get all the endings. Dead Space was a great psychological thriller, especially the 2nd game. It was cool how the lead was an engineer, an unlikely protagonist. Some people didn't like the added dialogue after the first game, but I thought it was fine.

A lot of other games as well, those just came to mind now.

For real. I swear I just wasn't the same anymore after finishing it. Took me a month and a half to recollect myself. No media or entertainment ever did that to me.

I've seen a lot of people crying over the Zelda trailer :P

But I haven't seen the trailer.

I regularly burst out laughing in Battlefield 1 and Saints Row the 3rd. That mission in Saints Row III where you parachute into a penthouse party with Kanye West, and that final mission in which you race through town to save Shaundi because you were going to kill Killbane but then this fucking track plays...

Music helps a lot. That moment in Red Dead Redemption where you open up a whole new area across the border and Far Away plays, was quite emotional to me. Not sad or happy, just, feels. Games touch me in ways that other media rarely does. Life is Strange is a great example. Life is Strange is very interesting because I didn't play it myself but watched someone play it and I still got very emotional... So it's not necessarily that games get to me more because I play them. The fact that they are interactive still matters even when I am not the one in control. And fear. Games can make me afraid. I don't really experience anything like it in movies. Amnesia Dark Descent got me scared to the point that I didn't even finish the game.

At the time Journey. First time I played a game after my girlfriend passed away. I think it was the 3rd play through where I stayed with the same person all the way through and we were flying around in unison together. That tore me apart at the end.. The person I played with and me a nice little message too.

But these days I get angry when games try and be emotional, especially the last of us. Had no emotion at all throughout that game... I like to be taken by surprise.. Actually, Titanfall 2 was a bit emotional (not that much) .. It was obvious from the start but I liked it anyway ha

The first game that came to my mind is Suikoden 2. I was so disgusted by Luca Blight and his slaughter of civilians.
I also really loved the characters Nanami and Jowy

Then there are way too many scenes from the Persona series to list them all, but thinking Nanko died was the worst.

Another that comes to my mind is the ending of Crisis Core.

For some reason in FF7 Aeris death never really bothered me, probably because I was pissed at losing her. She was my healer the entire game through xD However, I think the ending of 9 was really emotional.

There are many more scenes that come to my mind, most of them from JRPGs.

Other than MGS, Final Fantasy, and Mass Effect games. Valkyria Chronicles had some tense and unexpected moments. Which include the death of a beloved character.

VC is certainly an instant classic. And one of the greatest games of the last generation.

PSO V2 made me cry after having more than a thousand hours into them and I transferred 4 characters over to it from PSO and because of Sega's error, I lost them all.

Serially tho, never in a real sense did a VG make me emo. lol :P

THIS!

This one scene stands high above all other games for me for the emotional punch it had. Naughty Dog solidified their narrative crafting ability as industry leading w/ this, for me. Having a daughter, the opening scene...a punch to the chest!

The rest of the game doesn't really let up, either, but the opening scene sets it all up.

Honorable mention: RDR ending in the barn -- accepting your fate and letting your family go on ahead.

@shellcase86:

So many people mention the opening scene of The Last of Us! :O

I feel like the only person on the planet who felt nothing. :( I was playing the game with a friend at the time and I turned to him and said "I bet she dies. Ellie's on the cover so obviously she dies"...

It was just too obvious for me. :/
