UK Charts: RE8 #1 SW, PS5 >> XBS|X > Switch; Switch sales start to decline

The biggest performer was comfortably PlayStation 5, which saw an influx of new stock coming to market after two slow months. Xbox Series S and X also had a decent month in terms of stock, but had to settle for second place. Nintendo Switch, which has remained fairly consistent all year, is narrowly behind in third spot.

Switch sales are down year-on-year currently. Nintendo's console enjoyed a big boost in March, April and May 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown and the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which explains the unfavourable comparison. If we compare this year's performance to 2019, Switch sales are up 60% year-to-date.

Overall, UK console sales for 2021 are up 22% over the same period last year.

The surge in PS5 sales is clear from the accessories charts. The DualSense controller reclaims the No.1 position, followed closely by the Pulse 3D Wireless Headset. The new accessory of the month is the Xbox Camo Day Strike Wireless Controller, which debuts at No.11.

Note that this is in contrast to the US and Japan, where Switch is still surging. The US also got a lot more PS5 stock last month though, so when NPD is released we'll see which came out on top there.

Switch has peaked and won't come close to reaching PS2 sales. PS5 will outsell Switch handily LTD.

Resident Evil: Village is a great game, kudos to Capcom, and I’m really enjoying the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Pretty impressive seeing Animal Crossing: New Horizons still in the top ten and that’s not even counting digital sales. I really wish that they’d count digital sales for the Nintendo games as well. Really makes me wonder what the actual list would look like.

A game Sony has had the marketing rights for on PS3, PS4 and PS5 btw.

@techhog89: Yeah, I kind of figured that. It’d be nice if they did though. Not sure why they don’t to be honest as they do put out the total sales of their games and they are massively impressive numbers for many of them.

Nintendo keeps an updated top 30 digital sellers on the E-Shop still waiting for that on Xbox and Playstation. Steam also has a huge list.

This is what's funny about System Wars. I had a PS4 from launch and the games that stuck out to me as favorites, all multiplats.

Not for me, I've seen a few playthroughs and it looked like a grind. Grindy games got old the second I was no longer in school and had disposable income.

Correct, I don't have to actually play a game to know it isn't for me. Take Sekiro, looked cool, I was actually about to buy it before I read deeper into some actual player reviews where people were bragging about getting past a particular boss in under an hour of trying.....nope, not for me. People rave about Ratchet and Clank, every generation I think I'm crazy and try it out when it hits the bargain bin....still drop it after an hour, can't get into it.

After so many years of playing games, one should know their lane by a certain point. Bloodborne, Demon Souls, Sekiro, not my lane.

Control, Disco Elysium, Doom 2016/Eternal, Dishonored 1+2, RDR2, Street Fighter V, and too many indie titles to name. I blame on my PS4 being in storage for about a year when I lived in a smaller spot, that Nintendo Switch came in handy that year.
