What say you, System Wars? Do you like amassing a large number of points, or do you like to see your overall level rise? Which of the two do you find more addicting?

Trophies. Because it shows how many games you completed. (Platinum trophies) Also, it breaks it down into categories, like how many hard ones you get (gold) medium (silver) and bronze (easy). It also has a level system.

I second this statement, why have a boring old number when you can have nice, shiny, nearly sorted, and multicoloured trophies! When I look at something like 5000 Gamerscore, I just go "..oh, that's big. Right? Is it?". But when you look at a giant, great looking, blue trophy; you go "WOAH! Nice job man!" same with a Gold one. It's human nature to like shiny things, Gamerscore is for aliens. Non-human aliens.

I don't find any of them addicting, but I do prefer trophies since they give a better overview of what has been achieved. It's pretty obvious that someone with a lot of bronze trophies and only a few silver and no gold/platinum trophies isn't finishing the games.

Trophies. Watching a meaningless level go up is way better than some meaningless number. Also platinums.

Trophies are the most blatant rip-off of this whole generation.

Trophies by far, I'd rather win a golden trophy than fricken 50 gamerscore

Although XBL has achievements implemented better (every game has them) you just can't really compare achievements to trophies

I find them to be equally addictive; I always enjoy the extra challenge of obtaining as many as I can get for each game. How they are presented is irrelevant, since I'm sure no one cares how many trophies / achievements I actually have. =)

They're the same. Although trophies give much more of an incentive to get all the trophies (achievements) in a particular game.

Achievements unlock stuff for your avatar as well. Depends on which game you are playing. I've unlocked quite a few things for my avatar from getting achievements.

I think trophies are more addictive. When I see someone with a gamerscore of 40000, I know instantly I'll never catch up to them. Trophy levels are deceiving because you could be a level or two back from someone, but really you could need hundreds or thousands of trophies to catch up to them.

Almost the same, except I like the sound and the way achievements are presented on screen as they are unlocked. For that sole reason, I choose achievements.

The question was which is more addicting...those of you saying they're the same thing clearly never played an MMORPG - obviously trophies are more addicting. It's not even debatable.

I had no idea there was a major difference between them. Sony pretty much ripped off the whole acheivement system and slapped a pretty gold label on it. I love watching cows scream how its better because its "TeH G0ld MeDAL" and what not.

I wish that they both didn't exist. Rather there should just be system that focused on games that you've completed and at what difficult.

In that regard, trophies breakdown things better. Looking at gamer points, you don't get a good idea of what a person has actually done un less you go in and check the progress and then what they got the points from..

With trophies, you can generally tell whether someone is actually beating their games based on gold and silver trophies.

Achievements simply because they are standard in all games. Can't honestly say Trophies when they aren't in all games, or oftentimes need an update to get them.

I personally find trophies more addictive. I'm so obsessed with getting every trophy for all my games (well I have to atleast enjoy the game though) to get that damn platinum.

Now, I don't have a PS3 so I wouldn't know much about trophies but I think that platinums alone are enough to beat achievements, especially when the 100% completion is screwed up by DLC I will never get...

Oh, I thought that the platinum was rewarded upon completion of the main trophies... Well then, they are absolutely the same as far as I am concerned

Almost the same thing. only key different that I believe gives Trophys the edge is the fact that you can play a ton of games and not have an impressive level, while with Achievements you can have 5 titles that you earned 1000/1000 points in and still have a lower score than the guy who played 15 games just untill the credits
