Hello, don't want to spam Castlevania threads, but I'm curious as to how you would rank them, as there are quite alot of them. Feel free to rank them all if you're bored, but 5 will do. Think of this thread as Buzzfeed, or Gamespot's front-page (buzzfeed), but worse.

I'm obviously a fan of the more classic style of Castlevania games. I never really cared for the Metroidvania games.

The original Castlevania on NES was one of the first nes games I played. I've been a fan of the series for a very long time. The music in the series is incredible. I was in 7th grade the day Simons quest came out. I walked miles in a blizzard to pick up a copy. I just started playing Symphony recently. I didn't have a PS1 back in the day. I even liked Lords of Shadow. I had a turbo graphics when I was a kid but I never knew about Rondo. I ditched the turbo when the snes came out. I never did finish Casltevania III but I finished 1 2 and 4. Casltevania 1 was one of the hardest games I ever finished on the nes. I own physical copies of Castlevania 1-4 Dracula X Symphony Bloodlines and Lords of Shadow 1 and 2. I never got into the handheld games. I don't really have any favorites I love the whole series. I'm not making a list because I haven't finished all of them yet.

I liked Castlevania Legend, Mr. Igarashi was wrong to shit on in in such a mean spirited manner.

Some of you will hate me for this, but God I loved Simon's Quest as a kid.

First action game with a day night cycle? Bueller? Bueller?

@TheEroica:I'm a fan of Simon's Quest as well, one of the very first games I remember playing that made me "think" like where do I have to go now, what do I have to do, etc.

Anyone who puts anything but Symphony of the Night in the #1 spot is just simply wrong. Even if you don't like Castleroid games, you have to admit the soundtrack, art direction, overall fit and finish of the game is top-shelf.

My top 5 would be as follows:

2. Curse of Darkness (a guilty pleasure)

4. Lament of Innocence (severely underappreciated)

Aria of sorrow is my favorite.

The soundtrack, art direction, overall fit and finish of Classic-style Castlevania games such as Rondo of Blood and Super Castlevania IV are also top-shelf, so you can't say that Symphony of the Night is the undisputed best just for that.

Which game is the best depends a lot upon what you want out of these games. If you want RPG aspects and a vast open-ended maze to explore then Symphony of the Night probably would be the best if that's what you want from a Castlevania game. But Symphony of the Night has flaws to those of us that instead want a more tightly designed game with a hard challenge that we have to overcome by skill alone instead of just leveling up until the game is practically a cakewalk and therefore these people would likely consider one of the Classic-style Castlevania games to be the best.

Those are probably my top 5, but I’ve enjoyed pretty much all Castlevania games. Even the hated N64 titles I liked

My faves from what I've played goes:

5. Portrait of Ruin

I've also played Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate. Found it to be just "ok" and never finished it. I regretfully haven't played Symphony of the Night.

Super Castlevania IV is one of the greatest games I've ever played and atill holds up today.

The atmosphere, the music, and most importantly the control is so perfect it makes the game hard but fair.

Only other castlevania ive played to finish is the original.

Tried SOTN got bored, played some of Rondo which eas pretty good, nut not having full control of the whip like on IV frustated me.

Simon's quest. Can play the OST in my head just thinking about it.

Exactly!!! I think most people are discovering it after the fact though due to YouTubers raving about it, which isn't a bad thing...even though an original Genesis Cart with box goes for around $100 now
