Titanfall to feature 256p textures in final build

You lied when you tried stating that the Alpha was on the Xbox 360 and not Xbox One. Respawn studio's isn't even making the 360 version. Double standard.

Rumors of this sort are indicative of being threatened by what looks and sounds to be an amazing game.

Yeah, no. You have to go out of your way to make textures that low res these days. I'm sure the master textures are quadruple that amount if not more.

They probably ran all their textures through a batch edit script in Photoshop that reduced each image to 25% or 12.5% depending on the original resolution. This is done for the sake of testing and nothing more.

Full disclosure, I give not a single **** about Titanfall, or the X1. The game looks boring and the console looks meh. However, you would have to be incredibly naive to think some crap like that would make it into the final game. It's not like some artist has to sit there and work hard to make textures have more pixels. They're nothing more than PSD files that later become PNGs, Targas or Jpegs before going into the engine. Texture resolution is only limited by the engine and hardware and the X1 with a modified Source engine does not need PS2 textures to run a game.

Also, 256p? Do you know what the p stands for?

What's worse is that a developers word isn't even needed to dismiss this. 256x256 is hilariously low resolution. It would be like saying the next Crysis will have polygon counts similar to Mario 64. Not an exaggeration, that's really how far fetched this is.

See, that makes sense. I even said that in my previous post, these are likely 25% or 12.5% of the master files resolution. Simply done for testing and not for the final product.

Textures are made differently depending on what 3d models you're dealing with. Every game has textures in 256x256 as well as 1024x1024.

Yeah, it was announced when the alpha released, the textures were at 25% to reduce the download size. Heck even the original thread from neogaf that this is based on was shut down for being crap.

Respawn has now denied these rumors on Twitter, saying that "Alpha textures were reduced to have a smaller Alpha download."

That's ridiculous if true, 256x256 textures in a world where many games are coming out with atleast 2k textures can't be true, the Xbone is pretty damn weak, but can it really be that weak?.

4x 256 = 512 textures, which is still pretty low for 8th console gen standards, when they have 8GB memory to play with.

4x 256 = 512.

Remember it's 256 x 256, multiplied by 4 is 2x to each, so 512 x 512

Technically, you're correct, but even artists in games and VFX get this wrong all the time. They most likely do mean 1024x1024. It's easy to see why this mistake is made and it happens more often than not.
