Those idiots in the Sony Engineering Team

Unfortunately it looks like Sony cheapen out in some parts of the PS5 software/designs. The PS5 HDMI output currently capped out at 32gbps compared to the Xbox 40gbps. For some who doesn't know, for games at 4K120fps, bigger bandwidth is better to transmit a 4K data. This just means that PS5 has less room to transmit a true 4K120 4:4:4 color format and settle down to a still acceptable color format of 4:2:2. PS4 still runs game at 4K120 don't worry.

I know there will be doom and gloom but according to Atmos you only need a bandwidth of 18gbps for 4K60 + Dolby Vision, the PS5 2.1 HDMI cable itself can do 48gbps as per confirmed by digital foundry and in a PS5 teardown the Panasonic HDMI chipset is capable of at least transmitting 40gbps. This all is probably needs a software fix.

The channel is absolutely great by the way. Love his TV reviews.

God of War, Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon still gonna run better than they do on the Xbox...which is not at all

@sakaixx: that channel is good. However DF did not "test" the cables other than hooking it up to a 120hz display and confirming it worked. I was not going to post this when I found it but since you brought it up, this guy tested the cables that came with his PS5, XSX, and XSX... I have linked the section dealing with his PS5 cable (mind you the test is not conclusive as he only tested one of each, he could have a dud cable)

I don't think Windows/Nvidia can even do 4:4:4. Always falls back to 4:2:2 for me. I wish I could see what the difference is, but I still don't have a Blu-ray reader that can rip my UHD discs.

@regnaston: the problem is not the cable but Sony software limiting the chipset to output only 32gbps of the full 48gbps bandwidth. There is no such thing as a 32gbps hdmi 2.1 cable wtf is that where did you eat that bullshit.

Sony at least has noted that the PS5 itself is able to do 8K through a software update,which they not yet address.

In my video he tested the cable when not attached to the system.. it passed 7 times out of 10 and failed fully 3 times out of 10

@regnaston: ops completely went off the rail. It irks my when people say about the cable, there is no such thing as custom low bandwith hdmi 2.1 cable I got a reflex whenever someone bringing it up. Still doesnt matter whatever cable the PS5 has, its a software problem as far as what we know or, the Panasonic chipset is just crap.

UHD Blu-rays are standardized/mastered in 4:2:0 so you literally don't even have to bother...

4:4:4 and 4:2:2 is, more or less, undistinguishable in videogames. It's the nasty 4:2:0 subsampling that's the stuff of "color blending" and "ghosting" nightmares...:\

All margins that look like something on paper, but in practice, you're not going to notice a difference. Let's be real about a lot of the "system wars" crap. It's splitting hairs on minor numbers that human players will never be able to recognize the differences of. For all intents and purposes the two consoles are functionally the same. Just pick the one with the exclusives you like more, and get on with your day.

Even with my 3090 I just stick to 60fps

3090 is capable of more than that on many games. Do you not have a 4K/120 display? One of the best things about Nvidia 3000 series is the HDMI 2.1 connection. I have been enjoying 4K/120 with G-Sync on my LG C9 OLED. It is amazing. 3440x1440/120 with G-Sync over display port on my monitor is great too. :)

The Panasonic chip in the PS5 is capable of the same speeds as the sX, so it probably just needs an update.

First of its called game of the year, not the highest selling game of the year because if it does, well then Animal Crossing has is in the bag, a game being niche has nothing to do with it.

I have the exact same TV, its just that I mostly play single player games or elder scrolls online every now and then so I have no need for 120fps

Hmm why is it when there is a positive for the Series X its nothing and the Ps5 will have it later but that is not okay for the xbox? The double standard's is laughable and I am sure if it does get a patch and all of a sudden it can do 48gbp they will be back in here claiming ownage..
