Third parties needs to get a grip

Sony first party is destroying them quality wise right now.

Last gen best games had a lot of third parties: ES4, Skyrim, GTA 4, GTA 5, Fallout 3 and New vegas, Batman, Dark Souls, Mass effect series , Red dead Redemption etc.

Fast forward and all the sequels is disappointing: fallout 4, batman, mass effect etc.

Only Witcher 3 is actually competing against Sony first party this gen like

Third parties best games: Wicther 3, MGS 5 and ????

Future - RDR2, ?????

Sony best games: Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodbrone, God of War

Future: TLOU2, Spiderman, Death Stranding, GOT, ????

Its kind of sad one company is putting out more quality than an entire part of the industry this gen.

Where is GTA 6 or Elder Scrolls 6???

Well to be fair every up coming Sony exclusive he mentioned IS a 3rd person story game, why not mention MM's Dreams or you guy not into that type of thing?

I get a Sony machine to play the best exclusives AND Multiplats. Only one have been doing its job this gen. My most played third party this gen is GTA 5 (last gen game).

The fact that we can go a gen without an Elder scrolls or GTA is frightening. We got 2 of each series last gen.

Pretty sure we will see an Elders Scrolls at E3 this year. And plenty of 3rd party games to get excited about.

Those games are not the best games, I could have listed more Sony excluvies but they are just good games, not great generation defining Goty contenders. Games like Dreams and Concrete are good and they are needed for variety but they are nothing infront of the Behemoths.

It's getting to the point where Sony could do a 'Movie Game Maker' where you pick a Sony character, Sony environment and generic story and you can create your own story game.

I find Fallout 4 more fun than Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

While some may gripe about about too many first-person games, I'm more burned out from third-person games for the long-term. The only PS4 game I was interested in is Uncharted 4. But, looking at the current third-person trend, bleeech. I'm looking elsewhere for more variety.

My burnout from third-person games has been going on since the 7th gen. All my unfinished backlog from that gen are the third-person ones: MGS4, Mass Effect 1-3, Heavy Rain, The Witcher, etc.

Look at all the GOTYs from all the years; It is a 3rd person 95% of the time. The best games of all times are dominated by 3rd person.

3rd Person >>1st Person, Its not even close.

You can perfer 1st person but the greatest games are undoubtedly the 3rd persons.

That's fine. Not all players have been playing for as long as I have. Burnout will take longer for them.

There's still room for 3rd-person views in my games so long as it's not a main character. Take strategy games, for example. They're all in 3rd-person. But, I'm not burned out on them yet.

I'm more agreeable with games which have switchable third-person and first-person views. Flight sims was the first genre I saw do this. Now, there's the Bethesda Fallout games and GTA V.

From Software gave us an incredible journey through a Lovecraftian nightmare.

Guerrilla Games gave us an awesome Sci-Fi story and showed us that with some creativity even the PS4 can deliver a great-looking open-world game.

I thought this was a sheep thread after reading the title.

Sony is keep doing what they doing since PS1. Nothing more , nothing less. Thats why i respect SONY. Yes someone can argue with me for VITA but lets not forget at what state SONY is the last decade or more with multibillions in debt and still VITA at some point had more total games than Wii U. Insane ha ?

So with that being said its the REST that letting their systems go into life support and making Sony look like they doing something spectacular. Its them letting down their fans ( check Wii,WiiU etc ) with no support ( games ) for too long. Sony is keep doing what they doing. Game after game after game till the very end of each generation. What if they are in huge profits ( wii anyone ? ) with PS1/PS2 , what if they are in cataclysmic losses and debt ( PS3/PS4 ). They never give up and they proving it again and again and again. AAA after AAA after AAA caliber game till the very end. Love Sony or not, its the only company doing that every single generation, period.

About GTA6 will be a truly next-gen title with a battle royale mode as multiplayer or similar to that ( my prediction for a year now, nothing official ) as well, you wont see it on this generation and if you ask me it makes sense when GTA5 is keep selling like crazy for years now.

Monster Hunter World is holding a 90 on metacritic. I'm all for exclusives also, but there have been some good 3rd party games this gen.

Monster Hunter World is still the best game released this year.

yeah lets forget games like Doom, Prey, final fantasy, battlefield, Monster Hunter ,divinity II ( which is one of the highest rated games and is coming to consoles in a couple of months after been on pc ), nioh, Souls series,NieR , MGS, and probably a lot more i cant remember now

I was saying the other day, Sony's games last gen like Uncharted really put third parties who couldn't compete with the production values under pressure to invest more in their games. Could be why we say more third party studios and publishers make risky investments that ultimately did them in. Could happen again if Sony takes it to another level.

Well, you are right about one company putting out better quality than the rest of the industry this generation, but that one company is not Sony; it is Nintendo. The only thing that Sony has been outperforming the rest of the industry with is movie "games".

And yet most people are playing Fortnite, PUBG and a mariad of other games/genres that are not just pretty action games. In the millions at any given time, not caring about Sony's repetitive scripted experiences.

I fail to understand this thread and I was actually hoping it wouldn't bump today.

Why on earth would cross plat games with insect minded publishers and development teams stretched across multiple machines in QA Hell ever be able to keep up with singularly focused development houses being funded by a first party with a deeply invested interest in software quality?

That's not how this works. It's not how it ever worked. A big reason why PC exclusives are such q big deal, not to mention the consoles.

The fact of the matter is, Knack aside, Sony is a great publisher. Sometimes the output is breathtaking. They have aspirations not just as a console maker, but on the games front. And that's a great drive to have when selling consoles.

Witcher 3 and Overwatch are 2 of my all time favorites. And out of the games you used as an example for last gen I always found Bethesda RPG's to be boring, glitchy pieces of shit and the Batman games were always overrated 7/10 games with inflated scores because they featured Batman.

I also wasn't that impressed with Horizon.

RDR2 is going to sell poorly, movie game and all.

Horizon is average at best. It's on par with AC Origin. PUBG was a goty contender too. BR has massive impact on gaming industry even on his king Rockstar lol.

Dad of War might be a good game but, not a good GoW game. They turned a Devil May Cry inspired game about an angry asshole into a Last of Us clone with slow boring repetitive combat. It feels a little watered down, lack of enemy variety, and the running around/climbing reminds me of all the aimless nonsense that Uncharted is infamous for.

It's nothing special. I knew that someone ass will burn lol. Horizon has pretty graphics, that's it.

Combat felt really frustrating, dialog and story was fairly generic and it seemed to pick lots of things from other games but didn't really expand/improve on them.

A troll was telling me Horizon will be The Witcher 3 killer lol. Can't even compete with BOTW. :D

Professional reviewers that rush through games? you realise these guys are more like professional writers who happen to play games and write about them?

You find random Youtuber's or blog posters or reddit users writing actual indepth reviews, ones that actually highlight game mechanics in depth, say where the shortcomings are... discuss the potential up and downsides of the game in the LONG TERM.

Gamespot? IGN? and magazine "Herp derp, is it pretty? does it actually require effort? is it dumb enough for everyone?" set of tick boxes , a frigging 500 word write up and a 5 minute video is somehow more valuable? God forbid a part of the game forces them to slow down and think for thier selves "THAT'S a whole 1.0 less for not holding my hand!" or "-2.0 points because the woman didn't have as much attention as the man!"

You realise the game critic world has exanded far beyond these part-time gamers, part time writer shills? On these sites plastered by ads where on Gamespot a guy was fired for not giving a certain game that had heavy advertising a mediocre review?

Millions of Gamers - are not the Majority of gamers, while 1-8 million may buy a Sony Exclusive the other 100s Millions of gamers are off playing what they consider far better games. every one of these games is better than the ones you mentioned and therefore, these ps4 exclusives can't be "game of the year"

the only people who think ps4 exclusives are goty are critics paid by sony and sony fanboys that need to justify their purchase
