With the obsession of open world, leveling up and just upgrade/points systems...the whole mentality of having to put more in a game, rather than focus on story, simplicity and gameplay....of course character developement is part of that. I miss the old days of just linear but acceptable gaming thats fun and just works....games these days seem lackluster and just relies on these perk and upgrades...and i think it started from COD. (not too sure)
Open world games at least for me get tedious and boring...having to travel and travel around to get to a destination, sure i don't want a game to play it self and tell me what to do..but their are better examples of balanced gaming. A linear experience with the illusion of open world is what works best, IMO...something that naughty dog is trying to achieve with uncharted 4.
Simply put what i want a story focused game with satisfying gameplay...that same fun over and over again. Not making a shitty game and making up for it with upgrades and open world because its soooo BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG...ughn
