http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-06-12-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-will-get-ps4-pro-xbox-one-x-patch

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be enhanced for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

"I can confirm that we are working both on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro patches for The Witcher 3," CD Projekt Red told me this afternoon. "No extra details at this moment. More info is coming."

The Witcher 3 was one of the games shown on Microsoft's stage as 'Xbox One X Enhanced" last night.

CD Projekt Red appeared to then confirm the news on Twitter, community leader Marcin Momot tweeting: "We are also working on something for PS4 Pro. More info to come later."

However, CD Projekt said last autumn it would not patch or update The Witcher 3 to support PS4 Pro.

"Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent [standalone game], and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one [on console] would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro," CD Projekt Red told me at the time.

Exactly how the game will be improved for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X remains to be seen. Nevertheless, it's exactly what Digital Foundry was talking about at the weekend, exploring how Xbox One X (formerly Project Scorpio) will be good news for PS4 Pro.

I guess CDPR changed their minds. Fantastic news.

Great news. I guess two consoles needing an update convinced CDPR.

Scorpio can handle TW3 at 4K, pro will probably get 1800p upscale. TW3 really benefits from higher res, supersampling makes a big difference in this game too for 1080p users, so looks pretty good either way.

This should happen for all PC games. They already have the textures.

OneX only console in 4K.

PS4 in FauxK.

Damn, I might have to get a PS4 Pro if this keeps up lol. I guess the Scorpio is good for everyone at the end of the day because it's forcing game developers to upgrade the Sony versions as well.

One X GPU is capable of running this in native 4K, but at console settings. Wonder if they'll go for console settings native 4K, or 4Kinda/1440p at max settings. 60FPS is out of the question, I would think.

Lems really need to worry more about Halo 5 not being up on that list of first-party games getting a free patch. They loved to nitpick on this Witcher 3 thing, but CDPR has an almost perfect track record for supporting their games. It's not like the Pro was ever going to get left out in the cold.

Nice. Good thing the X1X can do 4K, and at PC settings too. Great news for PS Pro owners of the game as well.

Coded at 30fps i believe. Both will be the same, one native and the other checkerboard.

X1X also has more RAM so I wouldn't be surprised to see higher resolution textures on it.

Good news for PS4 Pro owners but I have to say, as someone who owns both the PS4 and PC version, this game in particular feels very sluggish on consoles. I don't always notice the difference between 30 and 60 but it's very pronounced here. Graphical improvements would be nice, but a 1080/60fps patch would mean a world of difference.

I wonder if they can patch good combat and movement controls into the game? Unless that is improved, I'm not touching the game again.

Please end the suffering caused by the console versions of this game. This game needs a 60fps patch big time. Are the CPUs in the Pro and X even capable to deliver this at 60fps? It is sad that we have to ask questions like this in 2017.

I wouldn't be so sure. The X doesn't exactly have a beastly CPU. The GPU part is respectable, but I have a feeling that most open world games will continue to be bottlenecked by the shit CPUs of consoles.

Well Anthem is 4k open world and we haven't heard anything bad about that yet. Yes its early but I have a good feeling will be fine.

Anthem was less CPU bound than a typical open world game with large cities full of AIs and interactive objects with collisions and physics simulations. They showed that market scene, but we don't know the extent of those type of areas. They may be simple hub areas like in Destiny.

The Scorpio couldn't handle TW3 at ultra settings at 4k without having drops below 30fps at times.

Even a R9 Fury/980 ti struggles to keep above 30fps at 4k ultra and that is with hairworks disabled and anti aliasing off.

They will have to dial back settings or go with some kind of checker boarding upscale.

If they are going for 60fps with the X then it won't be 4K. Maybe at low settings but even then you they have a really weak CPU to work with. I'm guessing 4K med settings at 30fps since MS is REALLY marketing 4K.

My $800 1080ti can't even do ultra 4K 60fps and it is paired up with a higher end CPU, overclocked.

MS promising 4k so people shouldn't expect fps increases from the xbone

@RyviusARC:

For sure. It will be like med with high water and ultra textures. At that point the difference is mostly draw distance and foliage density.

Without Gameworks, the old R9-290X with 5.6 TFLOPS and 263 Gbps effective memory bandwidth reached 4K 31 fps average.

R9-290X doesn't have Polaris DCC and Vega/Paxwell's Pixel Engine being connected to L2 cache. Current AMD GPUs are automatically disadvantaged with pixel shader/ROPS path when compared to NVIDIA's Paxwell GPUs..

Pixel Engine = Pixel Shader/ROPS path.

Compute Engine = Compute Shader/TMU path.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealed

We quadrupled the GPU L2 cache size, again for targeting the 4K performance."

X1X GPU's 2MB L2 cache was used to reach 4K. Existing AMD GPU's pixel engines are not even connected to L2 cache.

X1X GPU's Forza wet track has shown one major area and that's Pixel Engine improvements e.g. Forza's heavy alpha effects caused GTX 1070 dip bellow 60 fps while it's 60 fps sustained on X1X.

X1X's superiority with alpha effects doesn't just disappear.

It us up to CD Projekt, and my guess is they do Ultra settings @1440p and then checkerboard up to 4K.

That is a much better solution vs shooting for true 4k.

I really hope Nvidia releases the rumored checkerboard rendering at the driver level.

PCs could really benefit from at least having the option.

For X1X, expect GTX 1080 Ti degraded to 6.5 TFLOPS level performance i.e. this is the level for sustained Forza 4K /60 fps nurburgring wet track (heavy alpha effects) on my degraded GTX 1080 Ti settings.

My next test is to run Forza M6 Nurburgring wet track with GTX 1080 Ti at 6.5 TF and progressively reduce memory bandwidth until it starts dipping bellow 60 fps.

Excellent news and a good example of how the PS-Pro and XOneX can help eachother in the long run(combined user bases makes it more compelling for devs to provide 4K patches, imo). Haven't been through the DLC yet, so ill wait until I get my XOneX
