Yes , the latest witcher 3 patch shows again the PS4's weakness because of that weaker cpu. The ps4 get's a performance hit with the latest patch, but the X1 get's an even bigger performance hit.

The gap has become smaller because of this but still the ps4 trails the x1 framerates and with that latest performance hit we're talking about gameplay hovering a lot around 21-22 fps, while the x1 then hovers around 27-28 fps in heavy scenarios and in a lot of casers the x1 has a smooth 30 fps while the ps4 doesn't.

It's really sad that sony advertises 1080p gameplay but can't achieve decent framerates. This is getting to look like 1080p slideshows. What's even sadder is that they can't solve this with lowering the resolution, This is a cpu bottleneck (as was expected with current gen games)

Yet again microsoft shows that they are much better at making a balanced system. The resolution may be a bit lower than 1080p in most cases (900p), it does manage to keep acceptable framerates for a console. The ps4 is really flirting with the unacceptable here.

Some people even been calling the playstation 4 the powerpoint station 4...

lol powerpoint 4. thats good shit. but yea, it seems like a lot of games are taking a performance hit to achieve that 1080p bulletpoint sony craves.

Frame rate should be a priority over resolution. 30 should be a bare minimum. Doesn't matter if you have to drop it to 480p. Make it smooth and consistent.

I agree. 900p and 30fps is fine for me, just make it a steady frame rate.

More like it shows CDprojeckts inability to optimize console hardware. Both versions were running fine before the patch, no reason for the fps drops.

Ripping on the PS4 because of a patch? If performance drops because of a patch that is solely based off shitty coding from the dev.

Apples and Oranges considering both machines are running at different resolutions (900p vs. 1080p).

Also, it's shitty code from the developers as the game performance got worse on multiple platforms with the patch installed.

@commander: It was still mostly 30fps and was about 5fps faster when it dipped. There was no excuse for the performance to get worse.

The PlayStation 4 GPU is about 40% more powerful than the GPU in the Xbox One, 900p is a 36% lower resolution than 1080p, the Xbox One CPU is about 10% more powerful than the CPU in the PlayStation 4 and developers can access the 7th CPU core for gaming applications.

With the above information and how much these consoles share in terms of hardware, if a multi-platform game comes out on both consoles and is fully optimized for the peak potential of each hardware set, the Xbox One at 900p should theoretically always outperform the PlayStation 4 at 1080p by a very small margin, even without the 7th CPU core in tow. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that they are taking advantage of the Xbox One SDK updates, which mind you includes the ability for them to make use of the 7th Xbox One CPU core which they likely are.

If that is the case it fully explains this performance disparity, both systems are topped out obviously for running this game, however the Xbox One has more room to breathe at 900p than the PlayStation 4 does at 1080p thus this gap in performance.

PC just got even more graphic tweaks and with the cutscene light shaft mods it looks amazing. No performance hit what so ever. Face it console plebs, your console is shit, outdated hardware.

Console devs need to quit chasing down these resolutions. If 720p is what it takes to achieve decent performance while maintaining an asset quality you're satisfied with, then so be it.

Probably just a patch issue like GTA V had, and that effected both consoles. I'm guessing a developer oversight/mistake.

Batman Arkham Knight on PS4 shows the hardware is capable of running open world games at 1080p and stable framerates.

CDPR are just technically incompetent with this game on console. The fact that they messed up Xbox One performance with the latest patch is just further proof of that.

And watch Horizon Zero Dawn blow TW3 console performance out of the water. They already promised a seamless open world with no framerate drops below 30 at 1080p.

Killzone Shadow Fall was downgraded and the operating resolution was a lie, I think you're expecting too much out of Guerrilla Games, Horizon is likely to receive a pretty considerable downgrade itself.

so why exactly would you buy a so called 'next gen' console to play games as low as 480p? The bare minimum in 2015 should be 1080p/30fps, anything under is unacceptable.

@nyadc: Killzone SF single player ran fine and above above targeted specs the majority of the time. I saw no downgrade. The MP is a different story with the trick they used for resolution.

And that was a first wave game on PS4. Their engine should/will be much improved 3 years later. 1080p/stable 30fps is what a expect from first party developers. I think that is reasonable.

people should drop the resolution for framerate, it's so pathetic, who wants to play a game at 20 FPS?? next time casuals will defend their console by saying 20 FPS is a "photorealistic experience"

Then why did you? There is more than one game on PS4 that isn't 1080p and it cant hold 30 FPS. I know you bash X1 for it, but by your own comment you shouldn't have bought a PS4 either.

Console gamers were too obsessed with dem resolutions, otherwise they could've made the game look even better or make it run better at lower resolutions but gotta have dat 1080p just to convince myself even if it means cinematic experience... In fact, it's even lower than that... It's power point experience.

That means different things to different people. I myself would rather solid 30fps at 1080p with slightly lower effects. I dislike the effect of upscaling from non native resolutions. Personal preference of course.

The last bit of your comment is just silly. These consoles are perfectly capable of 30fps/1080p or 60fps/1080p they just need to sacrifice in other areas. You know that of course, one would hope anyway. Its all about finding the right balance. Personally I wont buy any console games lower than 1080p. Will stick to the PC versions.

Yeah, framerate should never, i mean NEVER, dip from 30fps, but native 1080p is simply mandatory by current standards.

Considering everything (visuals, scale, lack of loadings between in/out areas, etc) CDP did an awesome work! It plays surprisingly well on PS4....and looks simply amazing!

I also prefer better frame rates even though with PC I don't have to choose between fps and Resolution but when I have to, I gladly lower some of the settings to hit higher frame rates. As for Consoles, if both are perfectly capable then why we haven't seen any high end game running at 1080p/60fps? Hidden magic?

Both drops into the 20 while the PS4 has 40% higher resolution which never changes,since this game was falsely claim to have dynamic resolution of 1080p but in reality is only 1080p on the menu never did DF recorded a 1080p moment gameplay wise..hahaha

regardless, these guys are Pc devs, they aren't exactly the best barometer to measure console output. as others have said there are games like batman, infamous, MGS and horizon that shoot wholes in the argument being presented here in this thread.

if i were to care to care about res/FPS(outside of SW) i would've bought a PC... i am willing to take hits on the res in order to compensate for FPS but these devs don't understand...
