The Power of PS5 SSD showcased.

Featuring the super cute Astrobot and Godfall. Godfall in particular is the first true next gen 3rd party game that showcased the power of SSD speed of the next gen console and its load speed is quite fast. Its way better showcase of SSD tech compared to xbox showcasing last gen games load speed but can't fault Xbox they have 30 studios but no new games, as usual.

Is Astrobot better than Mario? I already like it more than Mario.

Astrobot looks like a Switch game. Godfall looks like a f2p mobile game. I want to see a proper game with these loading times.

Astrobot in 2020 looks like a cheap Mario knock off.

This tell you nothing, you have no idea how much is being load, (super powerful) is also incorrect. The correct term would be (super fast) but that's yet to be seen.

@sakaixx: those are not load times they are respawn times. It is always quicker to respawn in a game than it is to load it from scratch so you are comparing apples to oranges

Sony just need to announce what speed external SSD are supported that's all I need to know its not to much to ask.

this video from the time stamp shows how fast it takes to load Astro's Playroom. It looks like he pushes the button around 4:09 in the video and it is loaded in 5 or 6 seconds.

They do not show the load times from the main menu for Godfall or Balan

Series X opened games that were not even optimized yet (Outerworlds was 6 seconds, Control 10 seconds)

@sakaixx: I think they might be puzzled that you made a thread based on "Da Powah" of the SSD and then post a video of respawn times instead of load times.

You think we're going to be amazed at faster load times when we already know that? I mean, ps5 loading games 50% faster won't mean much when talking about 10 seconds Vs 15.

All we've been hearing about for months is how PS gamers have discovered fast loading.

While that's nice, it's not why I'm excited about the new console I'm getting.

I can just see the threads next gen. "my console loads faster than yours", it's sad.

The level were simply reset instead of being reloaded like some dumb games out there but this is not a demonstration of the SSD. You should know this stuff.

I never said it wasn't something to appreciate, I appreciate it. But it's not something worth lauding over others, SWs style. "My SSD is seconds faster than your SSD". :-S

Btw, I'm happy Sony did it and made others go down that route, didn't think anyone would because a large SSD an expensive resource in a console butget, but they did a good thing.

Hard to tell, because there is no point of reference. For example look at Shadow Warrior 2, which basically just has a "screen flicker" in between the animation of you dying and respawning. Probably 1 second at most on an ssd. Or the Crash Bandicoot 4 video above on an HDD. But obviously when both of these games are actually loading the levels it takes more time.

This was rough to watch ... i'm glad i'm skiping a PS5 for the first year (if not skiping it altogether for the looks of it), playing generic cheap knockoffs is not my thing for a new gen.

Stop making shit up look at my video it take 2 seconds basically to load astros is basically instant loading.

2 second vs 10 seconds calculate how big that gap is percentage wise.

That is what Godfall was doing not what Astro was doing which was a clean load, in godfall and crash ram isn't simply empty and refill, the data is there and reuse so that is the result you get but compare the actual first load of the level vs Astro loading.

Also what Crash is loading is considerably smaller.

@tormentos: what on earth are you talking about? FROM THE MAIN MENU it took 5 or 6 seconds (as my video showed).. to load between levels is an entirely different thing (which is what you showed).

I've never seen this stuff before! Not really. This is already possible using current tech. Most of these looks like it's loading from RAM, not the SSD.

There was a time when cows said LBP was a better platformer than Mario, specifically SMG2. 😂

Then a really weird phase when a few here tried claiming fucking Uncharted has better platforming than Mario.

At least Astrobot is a solid platformer with neat ideas, and what it bites from Mario (particularly Sunshine and Galaxy) isn't a bad thing, even if it never reaches the same heights.

I am curious, but how in the hell does this have anything to do with an SSD? Reloading the same level while that level is still loaded in RAM isn't going to be any faster or slower with one storage medium over another.
