What say you fellow gamers, are you surprised, excited or just plain ol' moist about the review Gamespot gave this great new game?

https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/the-outer-worlds-review-the-right-stuff/1900-6417345/

I finished The Outer Worlds wanting more, eager to jump back into the world to see extra things. It's not a short game, but it's one packed with such a steady stream of wonderful characters to meet, interesting places to explore, and meaningful, multi-layered quests to solve, that it didn't feel like there was any room to get tired of it. I wanted to rewind the clock and do everything in a completely different way. The Outer Worlds is consistently compelling throughout, and it's a superb example of how to promote traditional RPG sensibilities in a sharp, modern experience.

I will be playing this soon! YES!

It "looks" generic to me in every sense of the word.

If it wasn't for Obsidians solid rep I would have totally ignored it, and even then, it's still a hold off game, even if it wasn't Epic Store wankery.

You could swap The Outer Worlds' social commentary elements for the peaks of Skyrim or Mordor and it would be exactly the same game, which is to say, one you've played many times before.

Yikes.

Sounds about right and the fact I have Game Pass, I'll be playing it through Windows 10 and not on EGS. Epic fail on their part because it's not entirely exclusive on that client.

It doesnot looks like any kind of masterpiece of GOTY material. but what im saying is it looks better than fallout and elder scrolls has ever been.

beside its one of those RPG that rely more on FPS combat. despite developers not saying it is. it is.

I thought it looked pretty cool. GameSpot giving it a 9 doesn't mean anything to me, as most of GameSpot's writers are complete tools. I still think it looks pretty cool and will probably try out on Game Pass. Being able to avoid the Epic Store is nice.

That's how I always view when it comes to big gaming sites these days. When it comes to reviewers, I'll go to independent/free agents reviewers to get a clear mind and remember. It's not what you know, it's who you know! Scores of a game means shit to me and if a game looks good in my eyes, I'm gonna play it, this is one of them.

I mean something like Underrrail easily has 100+ of hours of gameplay at about 1/4 the price.

Have I mentioned Underrail?

no one have enough time to play 100 hour of game.

for average FPS 10 to 15 hour is perfect length. 20 is valen good and bonus.

for FPS/RPG 40 to 50 is enough. otherwise game starting to dragged.

remember Half life 2. only 12 hour long epic FPS and how it put most 200 hour games to shame.

An excellent example of a shit review that doesn't explain how the game is. What I got out of it was that the reviewer felt like it was derivative. Gee, thanks.

I'll just copy the first comment under it that I agreed with:

"So I’ve not followed outer world news, and this review really doesn’t deliver. How is the shooting? How much loot is there? Does it effect your characters look? How in depth are the side quests? How difficult is it? Do your actions/dialogues have any meaningful impact on the world? Can you romance? Can you have companions? Can they die? What are the standout skills in the skill trees? Are there any or are they dull? Do you feel powerful by the end? How viable is a melee character? How crucial are the RPG mechanics? What’s the graphics like?"

That guy wanted to know how the game is. Tough luck. Informative game reviews are dead.

LOL I read the review and the posters on that site. That reviewer was full of BS if I ever saw one. At least the posters pointed out the error of that reviewer.

That was one of the best comments I also read. This is very important when it comes to reviewing games.

He said pretty much what I expecting and stated weeks back, that it would be creatively bankrupt and derivative. And yes, that isn't news, but I don't doubt him in this regard.

As stated, for a new IP they would have taken a lot more risks. This will be middling, and forgotten fast.

Same problem Pillars had, adhered far to much to tradition.

Divinity on the other hand evolved what it was and modernised and was consequently rewarded for this forward thinking, while Pillars fizzled out.

Obsidian had a real opportunity here, and it's difficult to feel anything other it being squandered for the mundane.

If your a score whore with one system, who needs to be told if a game is good or not the outer worlds has the same gamespot score as god of war and HZD and maybe a mid to high 80’s meaning Xbox has a great console exclusive going forward

Fanboys will be equally happy and butthurt on both sides

Nobody knows. There's no official release date for Switch. I think it will release first half of next year. So, 6 month wait for porting duties I would say. But it could be up to a full year depending how much work they put into it. Wanna play it right away, get it on PS4.

@davillain-: I actually sunk a great deal of time into the Witcher on ps4, but I lost interest with it around 50 or so hours in.

It was the menu investment. There were times I'd pick up the controller and never go anywhere, do anything because I was managing equipment, mixing potions, swapping runes etc... It became to thick to enjoy, so I shelved it.

The switch in some weird way makes all things new again, so just like Skyrim which I didn't enjoy on 360 but dumped 100 plus hours on switch. I'm hoping for something similar.

Still it’s funny, I read here from some cows that MS only bought weak A-AA developers. Lol

This makes me happy. A lot of hyped and AAA games have been severe letdowns or have simply not held my attention.

Scores are not everything (in fact I generally disregard them), but this is a sub-genre I enjoy by a developer I cherish, so a "9" is very reassuring given the letdowns of the past few months.

Looking forward to playing this on my PC through the Microsoft Game Pass service, too.

I had my doubts about this one, but now that a lot of reviewers are mentioning that this game seems to have the least amount of bugs in Obsidian's history, I'm going to preorder for PC once I get home.
