The Legend of Zelda Delayed to 2017, Confirmed for Wii U and Nintendo NX

What a fucking trainwreck.

So this is going to be a rough fucking year for Nintendo.

I doubt it's even for Wii U. They're probably just throwing it on there so they don't tank their sales now that they went and put NX's announcement out officially on Twitter.

So NX is confirmed a home console then with Zelda announcement? Some people were saying otherwise because of the March release.

Amazingly enough, we still don't actually know.

First home console ever with no exclusive Zelda. Actually, all of the handhelds have probably had exclusive Zelda's too besides Virtual Boy. Wow.

So essentially the only reason they're delaying it is for the NX to have some flagship title.

This just keeps getting better and better. Now I'm reading at Neogaf Nintendo's only going to have one game, Zelda, to show. One. ONE.

How can company survive like this? More importantly, allow itself to get into this position? The NX better come out with a flood of release titles and I seriously hope the restructuring they've done is going into effect, because this is ridiculous. It's just absurd.

Basically they're saying there's nothing else for the Wii U. Gotta love Nintendo and their PR spin. First they delau Zelda U for "quality", now they're going to show nothing but Zelda at E3 for "immersion".

There is no way they always planned a 2017 release for the NX, something went a miss. Maybe AMD couldn't provide them enough chips for a November 2016 launch? Maybe their own teams are struggling to finish games on time. Like how much do they gain by releasing a new home console in March 2017 if they could in fact release in late 2016 instead?

@charizard1605: Meh, we kinda expected this to be the case for a while now. The main issue I feel is the console delay :(

I wonder if the PS4k/XB1+ had anything to do with it? Hopefully not. A new console should always stan taller than a refresh, assuming Ninty does its work right.

Its ok, I think there's a pretty high chance this E3 will be disappointing because the upgradeable consoles aren't as exciting as people think. Not just because NX won't be there.

Also a Zelda game could definitely hold a whole E3 conference if they decided to focus on Zelda. If its releasing on the NX it means they would be spoiling some of the features the NX has by talking about the game.

This is disappointing on various levels. I bought my Wii U launch 2012, and I never imagined I would see the Wii U's first original new Zelda game in 2017 and for it to be for the Wii U's successor as well. At least the GC had two original Zeldas, and only shared TP with the Wii.

Of course, I already stated last year and after the delays this was going to happen, so I'm not surprised...

Again we see a Zelda delayed for a new generation console (see Zelda TP), unfortunately that means the Wii U's only Zelda will be a shared title. It also means the game will be cross generational, which has me wonder what a true Zelda NX would look like after this game releases, but perhaps by the time that future Zelda NX title (hypthetical) is ready, the next Zelda will be for the console after the NX (NX2) and shared with that future console.

The poor Wii U looks to be having a disastrous year.

Wait a second, if they actually show only Zelda at E3 this is going to hurt Zelda.

They can't "win" E3 with one game. They can't have a "good" E3 with one game.

The reaction will largely be "Zelda looks cool I guess but really? That's it?"

I don't think they will have a show this year. They don't have anything for the show. I think they will do mini keynotes for Pokemon and Zelda, but no actual big conference.

Nintendo flat out gave the fvck up on the WiiU. I feel sorry for those who bought it. Even the Xbone would be a better investment at this point and that thing might not have a true exclusive the rest of the gen.

There's going to be a playable demo of Zelda's Wii U version (and only Zelda and no other game) at E3 and they specifically mentioned E3. I don't expect a conference but they'll have the Nintendo Digital Event at least.

I don't think they will have a Digital Event either- just smaller digital keynotes focused on Pokemon and Zelda, like they did for Smash last year.

While I can't say it's a complete surprise... **** you Nintendo.

Are people actually surprised? They always delay Zelda. Like.. 3 times at least. And that it was coming for both Wii-U and NX was a given. Not cool to make your Zelda fans wait for a whole new console before they get to play Zelda on the current one, but it is what it is. It started with Twilight Princess, now their timeframe for releasing Zeldas is way off. Unless they rush it out, like Skyward Sword. But then the game will suck. So whenever Nintendo dealys a Zelda, I'm more like "good, it probably needed it" than "aaaarghhh FU Nintendoooo". I personally want the best possible Zelda, not sure about you guys.

@Litchie: Skyward Sword was also delayed twice, it wasn't rushed.

That is lame news...so there's more games for Wii U?..oh wait...there isn't. Zelda U is also delayed till 2017...lol...so delayed because of NX. :P
