its actually bs because they make you choose between another heart container and more stamina...

Making choices is a bad thing?

Though, In general, the stamina option is far more compelling than the heart container option.

Choices are not a bad thing, but I think this really depends on your view on stamina.

I personally think its awful. It slows the pace of the game down (in a world that takes a while to traverse already) and could be easily fixed with certain surfaces being climbable or just removing it altogether

The people who have played it generally love it. But there is also disappointment amongst some people, especially people who are more into the traditional Puzzelda formula. There are definate flaws with the game. The core mechanics are great. But I wont say too much into detail, to avoid moderations.

But if you enjoyed Skyrim you should enjoy this.

Most people travel around using horses.

@aigis: Because if there were no stamina, there'd be no mechanic to control and direct where you can and cannot go. I imagine the world is made with a Souls/Metroid approach, where while technically all of it is open to begin with, it is only open to the exceptionally skilled player who can bypass or circumvent the soft restrictions the game places on the player- otherwise the game expects you to earn your movement and abilities.

It's not like stamina is a new mechanic either, Shadow of the Colossus had it. Plus even Souls has it in the form of hard levels.

Got this off of Gaf, apparently posted on Kotaku and quickly taken down. Not sure if legit or photoshopped because of the "Type of Game: Open-world perfection."

Might be too hyperbolic.

Embarrassingly fake. Aside from not being this hyperbolic, they'd never write "TONS" in all-caps.

Apparently it is fake until 6AM tomorrow morning.

@charizard1605: Yup. Which makes sense as well with the whole Heart or Stamina thing. More skilled players wont really need the extra health. But they will benefit form the extra stamina, as it will allow for more sequence breaking.

Hell, when I was watching people from a certain site that must not be named. I saw some people making some crazy jumps and taking some crazy paths that most people thought would get them killed. But they came out alive, only a sliver of stamina away from falling to their doom.

This game is gonna suck!

Just kidding, I am super excited for it. I haven't owned a Nintendo console in 1.5 decades. I decided I would get the Switch and tLoZ:BotW, and Blaster Master: Zero as my launch titles. (I grew up with the predecessors of both of those titles on the NES) I hope for a fruitful Virtual Console to play all the Zelda games from consoles I never owned.

I think the game will be great. I think it will have its lows, and its highs, but Zelda is never a bad game. I want to be floored with it, but I expect to have just a consistently good time playing it.

I really like Projared's criticism/reviews. He brings some good points. Not sure what you meant by ''choked'' but he can't talk much about Zelda until tomorrow.

He also had the desync joy-con problem.... which is very desapointing. Oh boy.

He can't talk about zelda much but he clearly praises to some extent later in the video. You can see he tries to shrug it off while trying to find the words, and the impression is its a bit of a flawed masterpiece. So I'm looking forward to the review tomorrow. Maybe it was just him being afraid of saying too much, but he clearly states its a phenomenal experience, and a great launch title.. maybe.

I personally don't like Bethesda games. From all the hours of footage I've seen, this looks and feels nothing like a Bethesda game.

Oh man even ProJared mentions the sync issues, I really hope mine doesn't have these or Nintendo fixes it soon, I'd hate to have to spend more money on a pro controller, I want to give the grip a good go.

@charizard1605: Yeah, people saying this is a Bethesda game have never experienced FPS's in the teens (or much, MUCH, lower) just by fucking WALKING AROUND. Also bugs. Bugs for days. The little I've seen from Zelda was squeaky clean (granted, like many other open world games it does have a lot less going on at the same time than a Bethesda game).

Enemy variety is fairly low for a Zelda game (around 20 major enemy types with a couple variations each (ice keeze, fire keeze, ect). Music isnt all that good for Zelda standards, Hyrule castle is the exception. Dungeons are shorter than the typical Zelda faire. Main Quest can easily be beaten within 20 hours. Not so much aethestic variety within the main dungeon bosses. The only collectables are spirit orbs and korok seeds. (compared to the poe souls and all that other junk in twilight princess). Open world opinions are mixed, some argue there it is empty, others say the opposite.

Whether these are good or bad is subject to opinion.

The Bethesda comparison is based on the fact that if you can tolerate those above flaws, you will probably like the game. Although to be fair, BotW does a much better job than Skyrim for sure in several of those areas especially enemy variety

@charizard1605: I mainly mentioned Bethesda games, because that is the stock open world bethedsa game I could think of at the time, it was late at night and I was fairly tired. Dont take the comparison too seriously. I was mostly just trying to say that if you are expecting a Zelda in the vein of OoT, MM, WW, TP or SS you will be disappointed. The strengths of those games, are not the strengths of this game. The emphasis here is clearly on the open world and mechanics.

@Maroxad: What I saw early on from the leak matches what you're saying, but again, what I saw was really just a bit more than the intro area I'm guessing (had tutorials for basic stuff and all that jazz). Shame if true, but I suppose the weight of those things will vary from person to person.

For example, an empty world IMO isn't by default an actively bad thing, as long as the core gameplay & exploration is fun (which it seemed like it was) and the side-quests are interesting and varied enough. Though I'll still reserve my opinion to when I get my hands on it. So far I have a fairly positive impression of it, in the sense that I can see some of the bits that might deserve the hefty praise it's been getting in terms of previews. Not sure what's more complex about it than say, Horizon like a gushing preview said, but I suppose that could be entirely down to the dungeons and a couple of features here and there (ie, setting shit on fire an using it). The combat in Horizon for example seems far more involved, rich (in player options) and intense than anything I have seen (so far) in Zelda.

Still fully expecting a 10/10 in a lot of places + best rated (in MC) game of this gen. Of course there are a couple of games like RDR2, Mario Odyssey and perhaps TLOU:Part2 that might have a say in that but time will tell.

@Desmonic: Yup. Your milage will definatley vary.

The content density is roughly the same as the content density found in Azeroth (World of WarCraft). Which makes it less empty than Skryim, but not as dense as its predecessors. But yes, I feel a good reason people are so mixed on this issue is because of what you stated. Take advantage of the exploration mechanics and whatnot, and the game will feel a lot less empty. But if you play this ignoring everything that isnt a shrine or a korok seed location or any other form of permanent power up, and you will find an empty world indeed.

Definately hyped for this game. But I will not expect it to play to the strengths of the previous entries.

Can confirm:

Clicking on it gives a 404, guessing it won't be fully active later on (and this probably just slipped them).

Well, there we have it folks. Let the games begin!

Some choice quotes from the review:

From its mysterious opening to its action-packed conclusion, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a revolution for Nintendo's revered series. It's both a return to form and a leap into uncharted territory, and it exceeds expectations on both fronts.

-

More than a typical Hyrule fantasy, Breath of the Wild is a daunting survival game that forces you to think in entirely new ways. You have to be cautious, creative, and resourceful in your efforts to battle the wilderness.

-

Basic enemies can be toppled through careful use of a shield, but there are harder enemies that will destroy this defense in a single hit. In these cases, it’s imperative that you parry or dodge an attack at just the right time, which will trigger a moment of slow-motion that allows you to unleash a flurry of attacks against your vulnerable foe. These moves are your last line of defense when the going gets tough, and they require precise timing to execute. Given the myriad enemies and weapons you're up against, mastery feels almost unattainable even with substantial practice.

(Imma call BS on that last line, that is never true in any game. Git gud Pete.)

-

The game's four main dungeons are primarily puzzle focused, with only a few enemies sprinkled throughout. They are a bit unusual compared to dungeons in past Zelda games in that you aren't focused on finding keys to open doors. Instead, the goal is to manipulate the dungeon itself, to literally change its form in order to access important areas.

There are reportedly 100 of these mini-dungeons strewn across the map, and the vast majority of them feature puzzles that test your understanding and mastery of Link's rune abilities.
