The FPS game to save industry from DOOM?!

Hello friends, 🤡

I had a lot of fun with Doom Eternal when it saved the industry earlier this year, but I feel I was duped. It's a good kiddie game, worthy of Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, but I later realized we had a casual representation of FPS games on this board. I won't name names.

Between the geriatric pace of Doomguy and treating enemies as regen health pinatas, I realized I needed something less casual.

In steps ULTRAKILL, a manly shooter for men (and women) with big muscles. 💪👵

Demos been out for a while and it's pretty dope. Unfortunately it doesn't get corrupt mainstream media backing like DOOM. Please conveniently ignore that this video is from GS, thanks.

• fast af.
• scoring system that lets you know when you suck.
• wall jumping doesn't depend on pre-determined tiles like Doom.
• mobility options that Doom completely lacks.
• secrets are actually secrets.
• punching doesn't just tickle enemies like Doom without bloodpunch.
• Shit, don't like enemy projectiles? Git gud and punch them back at them.
• game isn't built around arena lockdowns.
• not built around controllers, an actual PC shooter.

Interested in the FPS that will save gaming in 2020? Try the demo at least?

large development team destroyed doom so did multiplatform focus, appealing to the casual dumbass gamer.

doom2016/eternal make doom3 look like an absolute masterpiece tbh.

proof doom3 is more of a true doom game than doom2016/eternal.

doom2016/eternal arent dark enough to be true doom games, are people forgetting the original doom games had night vision goggles? That's because they were dark games in places this video proves it also.

How can anyone enjoy anything that fast paced?........anyways, i don't give 2 shits about the new doom games, it's a mindless, blood fest with no story........yawn.

DOOM ETERNAL is for casuals.

people are forgetting when doom shipped in 1993 there was no ''auto run'' feature you had to hold the run button to ''run'' you couldnt just lock it and run entire time this was modded into the game.

doom on atari jaguar made by idsoftware themselves and the only official console port of the original doom is proof, you had to hold a button the whole time to run like any modern game with a sprint button, auto running was modded into the game by modders.

pc original was the same.

Matter of preference I suppose, I generally feel the same about slower paced shooters. It's why I really don't care much for the genre anymore, speed and mobility got watered down big time. A proper arena shooter like Reflex can't even make it in todays market, sucks.

Of course it's all within the context of a games design, what it's trying to achieve, not like I think every shooter should be blazing fast.

Just watched video where Romero and Carmack played Mario 3 and Zelda non stop while working on Doom 1 - kiddie

Some of tech that drove Doom 1 came from their failed attempts at making Mario 3 PC port - very kiddie

Gabe Newell favorite game is Mario 64 - extremely kiddie

Ghosts favorite genre and games were born out of kids stuff.

The slower Doom cant be better than fast paced Doom but all 3 are masterpiece.

Making see saw puzzle point and shoot then walk inside cutscene - Easy.

Making masterpiece 3d platformer - Very difficult.

This is why Gabe Newell stop making games, can never be Miyamoto.

That game looks like complete ass.. I wish they would make a new gungrave only make it like 10 times longer and a lot harder.

doom 1993 was a slow paced game, you had to hold the run button like a sprint button to move fast not to mention the control scheme back in the day isnt the same as today.

Gungrave gameplay is yikes territory. They legit turned a tps into a shallow button masher where your biggest enemies were camera and performance. Literally just mash square - the game.

Probably the worst PS2 game I played aside from True Crime. And even that's a tossup. Length was the least of Gungraves issues.

Worst PS2 game you played.. sure man. The game did a lot wrong.. that's the reason I would like to see a new game that is longer and harder to beat. I was comparing the games because as far as speed and look.. well, they are similar. Why in the hell do you think I'd bring the game up? Do you think it's because it's my favorite game of all time? lol.. The game he posted looks terrible and no fun to play at all which I can't say about Gungrave.. broken and glitchy or not. That's the thing about opinions...

It has been doing in gaming since decade. not a new mechanics and if you dont get health. you die over and over again.

and after each arena. you take a deep breath because it check your skills and reflexibility.

It's about as opposite as you can get man. Ultrakill is a crazy high mobility FPS that requires accurate shooting and parrying. Gungrave is a tank like TPS where you don't really need to aim.

Yeah, for sure, opinions and all.

Idk, I've actually played both. One is a slick high speed FPS with great controls, tons of mobility, and level + encounter design that take advantage of that in interesting ways. The other is a tanky TPS where you mash square while looking in a general direction.

This guy seems to be a Gungrave fan, but illustrates it pretty well.

I'd say give Ultrakill a fair shake, but I know you don't like mkb controls.

SoR4 probably the cleanest graphics he's seen this year.

if you stop, you die. Eternal has best combat loop in any FPS since FEAR.

It's a busy trailer for sure, but the demo is worth checking out if you haven't tried it already. So much cool shit that you can't do in other shooters.

May not be pretty, but the gameplay is top notch.

OG Doom on Nightmare can be... a nightmare.

Eternal on Nightmare is no joke either though, especially if you're tackling those slayer gates. Then of course you have the master levels.

It's a silly argument tbh, all these games pack a punch on their higher difficulties.

The actual shooting, the dashing and air dashing, and how gunplay works is best since FEAR. or i would say surpassed it by hair.

what other game has better gunplay? far cry 3? LOL that feel like water gun gunplay.

Those tight rooms could make for some fun ninja-fps play, provided they've got the movement and enemy attack patterns down. Got some major Quake flashbacks from a couple of those areas - not just the textures, but the whole layout. which is no bad thing. Keeping an eye on this one.

Just wondering... are there any FPSes out there which focus on a series of mini arenas, with just one or two properly smart enemies per area? I reckon I'd love an SP game with chains of arena-style duel battles. Seems like such an obvious formula, someone must have done it, but nothing's coming to mind.
