The Faults of Super Mario Galaxy

This is comprehensive look at everything bad that the reviewers have said about Super Mario Galaxy and basically confirming that the game can not get a 10/10 here at GameSpot.

GamePro - 5/5

• It may take some players a while to adjust to the game's unique gameplay.
• The camera moves in strange ways during the space levels. Hope you're not prone to motion-sickness!
• The multiplayer mode is weak and feels tacked on.

1up - 9.5/10

• A bit too much collecting
• "Chirpy" sounds from some characters

Gamervision - 9/10

• The only sour spot is the occasional camera malfunction that will leave a confused stare on the face of any gamer

- Conclusion -

Super Mario Galaxy may be "one of the most impressive, engrossing games in recent memory" (1up) and "the closest to perfection in the history of the Mario franchise" (Gamervision), but it is not perfect. No 10/10 for you Mario. :(

I've heard the controls for swimming are pretty bad also, which is disappointing, bescause I love water levels.

But if this doesn't at least get 9.0.. I'll go crazy. :)

indeed, that is basically my point in posting this. This game is going to be the most fun anyone could have with a TV, but seriously... its impossible to say that the game is perfect.

In my, your, and other reviewers' opinions, yes. In Gamespot's opinion, 10/10 means perfect. Remember, this is the site that, under the old rating system, would resist giving a game a perfect score simply because the sound was only a 9/10, which shouldn't affect the overall score in my opinion. Besides, Gamespot has a reputation for being more critical than most reviewers.

Only problem I see is some minor camera issues. Complaining about the co-op is stupid. Putting things like "This game will make you sick" also just makes it seem like they wanted to say more bad stuff about the game.sexy_chimp

Well, they're trying to find fault with it, because they don't want to be seen as rating merely because of the hype, so the feel pressed to find something wrong. Or at least that's my guess.

No, now it means 'Prime'. They changed it, because so many people believe that a game shouldn't have a 'perfect' score.

Well, this looks like an "identity crisis." Why couldn't they just pick one planet and stick with it? It's much too different, but still a rehash. And where's the online deathmatch?

The two major complaints are camera, and water. Which always suck in 3-D platformers...

Actually, I could understand GS knocking SMG down a little bit because of the minor camera issues, they seem to be a little too picky and will no doubt take off .5 for it. No doubt SMG will still get a 9 though, it just seems wrong to score it any other way.

Mario has too many suits. I mean really, is he a plumber, a ghost, a spring? All of these different ways to play confuse and anger us. This game suffers a lot from what we coined as an identity crisis.Gamespot

Yeah, especially Zelda: Ocarina of Time which when you look back had horrible camera angles and trying to fix them was a pain.

I agree with this. Collecting those crystal things almost seems to take away form gameplay imo.

Good thing you dont have to walk over to them, you use the Wii-mote, but them coming to you automatically would have been good, like in Rachet and Clank.

:lol: Yet most HD games lack the vibrant colours that Super Mario Galaxy has, the only one that comes close is Rachet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction which uses a nice array of colours in it's visual presentation. But then again games like SMG and R&C are proof that you can have amazing graphics with the right artistic direction, you don't need to use raw processing power to make a great looking game.
