The price hike on software was BS. Still I doubt we'll see a price increase for hardware, considering they are usually set by manufacturers and are not an MSRP.

It's possible, though it would be an idiotic move from the manufacturers. We're talking increasing the launch price, over the deflated CDN dollar. It's an idiotic move... more so than the increase in game prices (at select retailers).
It's something I've wanted to do since HeartGold; I have a good amount from Gen 1 and I have all of them from Gen 5. I have plenty scattered in there from the other gens as well but it will be time consuming.

No, P3FES isn't necessary to understand P4G first. The issue is, Persona 4 is generally such a better game than 3, that it makes it impossible to go back and play and appreciate 3. Which sucks, because 3 is an amazing game in its own right. So the best way to do it is to play 3 first and then move on to 4. That way you enjoy both.

Persona and the Persona 2 games exist in the same universe. Persona 3 and Persona 4 exist in the same universe, and have absolutely nothing to do with the earlier games. Persona 4 makes some references to Persona 3, but that's about it.
