Star Wars Outlaws releases August 2024! And it's from Ubisoft, that company everyone loves poking them

So we get a new trailer:

Not like we're gonna get any Star Wars movie anytime soon, so the video games are taking their place (aside from variant TV series) as this story trailer does a better job at it.

Already saw gameplay last year, still looking forward to it as I'm a casual Star Wars fan myself, but this doesn't mean this will be an instant buy until I read PC reviews first before purchasing it. For my fellow PC gamers, there's no Steam version, so it's either Ubisoft Connection store or EGS. Looks like I'm buying it on Ubisoft store unless reviews says otherwise.

I already loved Avatar and the same developer releasing yet another singleplayer blockbuster in under 9 months is impressive, and takes me back to the golden days of timely releases (PS2).

Looking forward to it.

Same developer as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, The Division 1 and 2, and World in Conflict. Top-tier developer!

Also Snowdrop is an amazing game engine and I can only assume it is what they're using for this game (it was used for Division and Avatar).

Yeah, I feel the same.

I get the idea that people want to dislike Ubisoft the corporation. They've done some shady professional, business, and ethical things in the past and for a few years there they released some real stinkers and cancelled or mothballed some games I was looking forward to (Settlers and Beyond Good and Evil 2).

But they've also put out some good stuff, too. The Division 2 is arguably the best example of a fun, enjoyable GaaS loot-n-shoot type game. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was an incredible game with great combat and some survival elements. The recent Assassin's Creed games (Origin, Odyssey, and Valhalla) have refreshed the series with more action-heavy combat and a good mission design (though I admit they suffer from that open-world fatigue I don't like). There's a lot more.

Hell, I even liked Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

TL;DR: hate on Ubisoft all you want, but give their stable of developers an honest chance; they are putting out some good stuff.

I like most of Ubisoft titles. My only issue is the direction they took Tom Clancy, especially with Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. I want them to go back to the OG days of Rainbow Six Lockdown and Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike.

If you dislike the ubisoft formula,you'll not like many games as a shit load of devs copy it "Cough,cough,Sony"

Anyhoo...i enjoy their games and the announcement trailer from the xbox showcase looked good as does this.

@davillain: Nah, I'm just not into sci-fi that much, planets, the Galaxy, aliens etc, and all that stuff doesn't interest me that much.

That doesn't mean I won't play a game in the SW universe as I love KOTOR 1 and 2, but not because it's SW. I also played that SW game with the red-headed guy in it, but the pop in was atrocious and the fact you couldn't skip cutscenes meant I quit on the 3rd mission or world, and never went back or played the sequel.

As I said easy pass for me, well in a couple of years I see a cheap copy I might buy it to check it out, but yeah no real interest to buy a copy at release or even at half price.

Not Ubisoft's first rodeo with Star Wars either. They did this with who is now Tribute Games.

Better than the Xbox and PS2 version by LucasArts, honestly. Needs a remaster for sure.

Now look at this far superior trailer. When i fist saw this trailer i didn't think anything about it because David Cage, but now that i've rewatched, bruh, this trailer is amazing and i am not even a Star Wars fan. That drums beat and tone of the world is awesome.

Wish Ubisoft could have just taken the concept from the canceled Star Wars 1313 and from a tech demo, it still looks good compared to Outlaws...sort of:

Ubisoft+ subbing is the logical choice.

I am in for this. I like that Ubisoft has a ton of languages and voices generally all dialogue. It makes their games perfect for language studying.

They have Fallout bugs. This is your aliens, lowest possible effort when No Mans Sky, an indie game, offers actual alien races. Bathesda couldn't be lazier tbh.

I agree with Joe saying the main character does look like a Jim Henson Muppet and I've seen the comparison from Trilla to this. I normally don't care on the looks but this is really pushing it for me to start caring. EA did well with Jedi games but Ubisoft has a lot to prove. As long as the game will be fun, I'm still down for it.

The face-scan mocap shit is really annoying. And will only get worse with UE5 and what not.

Exactly, everyone's always talking about AI but nobody even brings up the fact mocapping takes away the good honest labor that a animator used to do to make cutscenes.

Years from now people will still remember seeing the likes of Jak and Daxter or Sly Cooper in a cutscene, but they won't remember the name of this lovely little lady.

Not wholly against it or anything, it has it's place.

But (as a shitty example) remember when CGI was starting to get used? Movies like Jurrasic Park and Terminator 2 using it sparingly and well?

Now it's just like, the lazy, easy to go for any shit. To the point when go to watch a movie now, shit like Disney, even for basic sets won't bother using basic sets.

That's what this reminds me of, it's more realistic, it's easy, so they will shit this out in an endless loop with more dumbass cutscenes to show off the thing that is no longer impressive.

As for CGI, there's only two CGI scenes I ever liked:

The panning battle scenes in LOTR

Yoda jumping around in Episode 2

For everything else give me practical effects. They've always looked more real and they'll always look more real.
