There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? EA sure have **** have. Expect this (and all future games) to be massively overpriced, unbelievable amounts of preorder dlc, ridiculous power-boost micro-transactions and any other crippling monetization they can throw at it.

Classic LucasArts games, not will this be.

That honestly looks too good to be actual gameplay, would be nice if they don't downgrade it.

What?

You know they've already shown snippets of the gameplay right? It looks amazing, no CGI required.

We'll talk when the game comes out. I know what these consoles and PC are capable of. With the textures and lighting shown in TC's pic, the consoles are going to be running the game in single digit frames. Not to mention the Xbox One can't look like that. The crushed blacks will ruin any shadows in that screenshot. That screen will be used in all of the downgrade threads this fall. Bookmark it. I said it here.

That's worrying me too but seeing how DICE focused on PC first with BF3 and BF4, there is a little hope.

@Cloud_imperium: I don't think the consoles could handle the game at all, even my PC would struggle with those graphics, must be like ultra settings on PC they used or just used to build hype and will be downgraded closer to release, I don't think EA would allow such a dramatic difference between PC and consoles, but who knows.

Yes they may have focused on PC first, but look at how the console versions of BF4 looked. PC tech is making huge leaps and bounds. The consoles are more or less going to give us this for the next 5 or 6 years.

Meh, I'll probably get this game. I'll have to jump into Gen 8 to do so.

I'm so hopeful for this game but I fear that it will just be a Star Wars skinned Battlefield. Really makes me hate EA sometimes... And we'll keep having to suffer through EA's bullshit.

I don't really hate EA, I just hope the game is good.

Am I the only that has a problem the way this lightsaber looks? And by looks I'm not talking about the cross-like design near the base of the saber. I'm talking about this distorted/ fiery look of the entire lightsaber. A lightsaber is supposed to look clean, vibrant and cool. None of this distorted fire looking BS.

I am interest... The counter says its 02:46:50 left till full reveal!

Full reveal makes me wonder if its going to be a mini show. If its literally just a 2 minute trailer then MEH.

Also with Dice's track record of poor single player games who the else has little to no hope for Battlefront?!...

The Force isn't merely awakening on the big screen. It's also returning to the video game realm.

"Star Wars: Battlefront" publisher Electronic Arts and Swedish developer DICE showcased their next-generation rendition of the "Star Wars" multiplayer shooter Friday at Star Wars Celebration, the annual fan extravaganza celebrating the sci-fi franchise.

The new iteration of "Battlefront" takes place amid the conflicts of the original film trilogy and is scheduled for release Nov. 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

"Battlefront" will focus on frenzied shoot-outs between up to 40 players portraying Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire forces. In a demonstration of the game's multiplayer mode, a team of jetpack-equipped rebels were shown carving their way through the woodsy Endor while Stormtroopers charged at them on foot, on speeders and within walkers, including a hulking AT-AT war machine.

Other locales teased in game footage included the snowy Hoth, sandy Tatooine and gooey Sullust, a lava-spewing planet referenced in 1983's "Return of the Jedi," as well as many "Star Wars" games and novels, but rarely ever seen. "Battlefront" won't solely be centered on expendable ground troops. The game will reward sharpshooters with the ability to embody such iconic characters as bounty hunter Boba Fett and Sith baddie Darth Vader on the battlefield.

"You can storm in as the Dark Lord himself," said "Battlefront" design director Niklas Fegraeus. "You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well."

The action will also take to the skies with players engaging in dogfights with TIE Fighters, X-wings and the Millennium Falcon, though the developers were coy about how battles would alternate between ground and air combat.

"We wanted it to feel authentic to this universe," said "Battlefront" executive producer Patrick Bach. "You can get into these vehicles, from speeder bikes to X-wings, TIE fighters, AT-STs, AT-ATs. There's a wide range of vehicles that we wanted to realize. The difficulty with a game is that they need to be balanced with the troops on the ground."

"Battlefront" will also include a free downloadable level available two weeks before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters Dec. 18. It's set on Jakku, the battle-scarred desert planet glimpsed in "Force Awakens" teasers. The expansion, dubbed "Battle of Jakku," will explore the moment following "Return of the Jedi" when the New Republic confronted Imperial holdouts on the previously unseen Outer Rim enclave.

"You never get to see it in the new movie, so it was this brilliant opportunity to recreate the Battle of Jakku, which you only see the remnants of in the movie," said Bach. "In the game, you actually get to play the Battle of Jakku. It's the same place from the new movie but 30 years earlier."

The original "Battlefront" was released in 2005 by publisher LucasArts and developer Pandemic Studios. It dispatched with traditional "Star Wars" storytelling in favor of shoot-'em-up action.

The forthcoming "Battlefront," which was first teased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2013, marks the first title in a 10-year deal between the Walt Disney Co. and Electronic Arts Inc. to create new "Star Wars" games.

"We didn't want this to be a normal licensing relationship," said LucasArts digital business vice president Ada Duan at Celebration. "We didn't want them to just make movie games. We wanted a deep partnership to create brand-new experiences."

So long as Dice doesn't make a broken game on launch again, this actually should be pretty bad ass.

I promised myself that I wouldn't buy another DICE game at launch, but I'm such a Battlefront slut, and I'm starving for that Battlefront dick.

40 only is kind off meh, BUT

The Modes

What we saw was a 40-player mode called Walker Assault, which we can only speculate will be used for other maps like Hoth and Tatooine. Fegraeus says that Battlefront is first and foremost a multiplayer game, but it also caters to people who don't want to play with others or be connected to the internet.

While Fegraeus wouldn't go into into multiplayer specifics, he did say that two players can play cooperatively through splitscreen, a feature we didn't expect to see. While playing online, two players who want to team up as much as possible can tap into a Partner feature, which allows them to share gear (an experienced player can bestow a newcomer with a high-tech load out during their play session), spawn at their teammates location after death, and be on the battlefield together as much as possible.

The single player component of the game is called Battlefront Missions, and while few details were given, it sounds like it will be the same battles from the multiplayer experience with different missions layered in.

Maybe tehre's a bigger coutn mode. Hopefully

Oh **** it

The Interview and "No Comments"

After the demo concluded, I asked Ingvarsdottir as many questions as I could about Battlefront's gameplay and modes, but many of my inquiries were met with "no comment." While Ingvarsdottir revealed the max player count for online battles would be 40-players, and the minimum 8, depending on the modes, she wouldn't say if Walker Assault would exist on other planets. "What we saw today was Walker Assault on Endor," she said. "We're not prepared to talk about what we are putting on each of the planets."

When I asked if the walker power-up would be something one player would get in a battle, Ingvarsdottir said she's "not prepared to go into specific features. As we said in the presentation, you get different power-ups, whether that's playing as a hero or acquiring an X-Wing or walker."

I then asked Ingvarsdottir if DICE had any modes that were reflective of Free Radical's vision for its canceled Battlefront project, which would have allowed a battle to start on a planet's surface and transition to space combat. "In our game, we want to bring the fantasy of dogfighting to players. We bring you the X-Wing, and we bring you the TIE Fighter, and other air vehicles that you want to fly in and experience, but we keep them on the planet's surface." This means that dogfighting is contained within a planet's atmosphere. To clarify even further, you won't be able to run around on the ground, hop into an X-Wing, take flight, and soar off into outer space. There are no space battles in this Battlefront game. Yes, it's a bit odd for a Star Wars combat game to not a map set in space, but as long as the vehicles move like we expect them too, it doesn't matter where the dogfighting unfolds. Electronic Arts' press release for Battlefront reveals the Millennium Falcon as one of the playable ships.

I asked Ingvarsdottir if Vader could be played from first- or third-person, but she just grinned and said "This is something we will go deeper into at a later time." Her smile continued through my next question about how players obtain gear and rank up. "You already know what I'm going to say," she said with a laugh. "We'll discuss that later."

Next gen is here folks

Everything I'm reading is looking great. Could this be a multiplayer game I spend a lot of time with? I certainly think so.

No spaces battles is a big mistake. Great to hear splitscreen is in though.

This game has so much potential! I trust DICE to pull it off nicely.

I thought the news of no campaign would have been an issue here.
