Gamers were wondering what the higher ups would think of only selling 3 million copies so far on one of the biggest games ever. But it seems our worst fears have come true. Square's boss Takashi Kiryu stated that the game didnt meet the companies expectations. Kind of seen this coming as FFXVI flopped in Japan selling less than half what FFVII Remake did. I bet Square is regretting taking that Sony money and blocking millions of fans on PC and Xbox. Well see if the PC version can save this game.

SE always seems to be disappointed in the sales of their games. They should probably stop making games that need to sell 10 million + to be profitable.

Or not lock it to one platform expecting it to sell 10 million.😂

I'm waiting on a PC release personally. There's no point in shelling out half a grand for a console when it's confirmed to come to a rig I already own at a later date. Seriously, just release it on Xbox too if you want those sales numbers. Square is out of touch

I knew this would happen.

And SquareEnix wants to blame Sony instead of themselves for making a mediocre game that alienated the fanbase while having horrendous marketing where the game's director turned people off the more he talked.

"We can see that the attach rate of Final Fantasy 16 is considerably high, given the PS5 install base."

Now that PS5 price dropped, expect more FFXVI sales.

From the bargain bin or second hand sales.

Or people are just not interested outside the fanbase.

Your assertion doesn’t make any sense lol.

FF7 Remake sold 3.5 million in 3 days and that was in 2020 near the end of PS4’s life cycle (110 million)

FF16 sold 3 million in 5 days on a much smaller base (40 million).

Mediocre is more like it, and it is clear that many in the media and superfans overrated it.

There is far too many story and gameplay problems to ever be excellent.

@nod_calypse: PC is a lawless open platform. If people like ghosts can steal games all the the time then it can't be too hard.

Also are you gonna sit here and say you've never stole a single game on PC in your entire life? I don't think a single hermit here can make that claim.

I've never stolen a game that is available to buy, no. If the game is no longer available for sale--as in from the creator of the game, the dev, publisher, whatever--then yes, I'll download them. This means I only dl roms of ancient games that are abandonware.

I support game devs, publishers, independent creators, etc. of all kinds for their creations with my own $$$. It goes against my beliefs to do otherwise.

@SolidGame_basic: When it comes to sales you also need to consider Sony hasn't made a game for the PS5 this year and it has been slim pickings, and Sony advertised the crap out of the game with state of plays and the like.

Still has no logical sense.
A game unrelated to the franchise has nothing to do with that game’s sales lol
And again, comparing FF7 Remake sales at more than double the base of the PS5.

A lot of the reviewers I watch on Youtube complained about the same thing: The influence of FF14 on the game, making it feel like a fetch quest MMO

I haven't played it yet, but Id imagine that didn't go over well with fans of the mainline games.

And for once, I agree. At least SE tends to releasing their games on PC with Denuvo is involve meaning its impossible to steal the game. SE did it with Forspoken. But seriously, I don't see the point of pirating games when I can find good deals from CDKeys anyway. Paid half the price for Forspoken.

Well, perhaps Square Enix's expectations were a little too high.

Nevertheless, it sold 3M in its first week despite being a PS5 exclusive. It was also very well received by critics and users alike. And it has only been out for a month.

Yosi-P plans to continue supporting it, including DLCs and crossovers with FFXIV. It will also be ported to PC at a later date.

Looking back, Squre Enix supported FFXV with DLCs, QoL updates and the PC port. Despite some initial problems, it ended up selling 10M. I think FFXVI will follow suit.

@last_lap: the piracy problem is overblown.

most people pirating games are kids than can't afford them. I used to do it when I was a kid, before I got a job.

But the thing is that those are not lost sales, since that consumer can't afford your product anyway and when they grow up they will just buy your games. (So in a way you are getting future customers without investing in marketing)

The other correctors of piracy are digital distribution and regional pricing.

Maybe people here from developed countries are not aware of it, but many pirates are guys from poor or middle income countries where:

1. Games were not available legally to purchase

2. Games were ridiculously expensive as a percentage of disposable income.

So steam has reduced piracy a lot by reaching most countries and adapting prices to different average disposable incomes.

You might as well take the huge sales that come from the massive base of PC players and just don't worry about how many people pirated it.

So when you was young and couldn't afford to buy games, did you steal the PC you played those stolen games on also?

If games are ridiculously expensive in some countries, then the PC would be also, so i'm guessing they would have had to steal a good one to play the stolen games too.

I live in Australia and over the years our government banned games, but on console you can just change your region to one where the game is available and download it.

All you are doing is justify stealing, its wrong no matter the excuses you come up with.

The action RPG genre is a mystery to me, some games like Demon Souls feel like action games and not really RPGs whereas other games like (modern) Zelda sold as action games seem like RPGs.

So I never understand the fanbase for action RPGs, what they really want and so on and so forth. I myself tend to just prefer the generic action RPG like Kingdom Hearts or Tales series. They seem to basically do all the things I would want in an action RPG.

I haven't really trusted Final Fantasy as a brand since the expansions to 14 where they seem to be more button intensive, less strategic, and not very expansive, like Heavensward at least. They seemed more like a Korean MMO than a Japanese MMO honestly.

FF16 seemed to go really hard with the action side of the equation, making combos and weird stuff and it's just so conflicting with what I want out of an RPG which is just basic strategy and level progression and cool new weapons and stuff.

I just don't know who the audience is for FF16's style of action RPG, it seems like neither action game fans or RPG fans since it's not really either.

@last_lap: the computer was a work computer from my dad. You will spend big on things you need to make money, but it's not something you can afford for fun.

Also, unlike what most people think, you don't need a high end PC to buy games.

@nirgal: No you don't need a top end PC, but you need a decent one to play AAA games though.

And there's nothing wrong with not having a lot of money when you're young, most of us have that problem, but you would hope to try and rectify that first by doing odd jobs like mow lawns or a paper route etc, not worry about stealing video games.

@last_lap: dude, obviously by seeing what you are saying, I can tell you have never lived in a non developed country. You can't make 80 usd by mowing the lawn.

( the cost at the time in south America before regional prices and digital distribution, due to customs and physical import expenses. In purchase parity terms that could be the same as a game costing 250 to 300 usd. And that's assuming it was available for purchase which was rarely the case.)

You would never be able to afford it. It doesn't matter what you do. It would be a big effort even for your parents (earning in pesos). Let alone a kid.

But we did infact worked for those games, because the internet wasn't as developed at the time and we couldn't simply download games. We would work enough to save the purchase parity equivalent of usd 35 and then go to an professional pirate and get the game there.

And we were not always playing AAA games. We were playing those we could run with the computer we had at the time. And that would change affording to the work requirements of my dad.
