I am okay with this, 100%. Konami has and will continue to squander these franchises. Inject Silent Hill with money and lets go, Sony.

I have no problem with this if there is at least a PC version. Otherwise this is terrible news.

As I said in the other thread, this would make the gen for me. But Sony acquiring Silent Hill alone would make the gen for me. It is well past time for a true Silent Hill revival. Here's hoping we hear some good news on this front tomorrow.

**fingers crossed**

That Silent Hill rumor though, I kinda believed but now, this seems to much that its hard to believe. I will say this, if Sony acquired Metal Gear solid series and wanted to remake MG and MG2, it would be because Kojima has unfinished business with Metal Gear franchise and wants to remake MG and MG2. MGS series would be, shall we say, more complete, or full loop. And who wouldn't want to see Gray Fox (Frank Jaeger) again?

Oh and do purchase Zone of the Elders will ya Sony.

As long as they don't make silent hill and castlevania cinematic experiences, I'd be okay with it. Konami is just sitting on them and focusing on pinko machines.

On one hand I think that would kind of suck since they would end up being exclusive to Sony consoles. On the other hand it would be nice because Konami isn’t doing jack shit with them currently. I’m a little sceptical about it though because Konami is still probably making pretty good money from the brands in pachinko machines and it wouldn’t surprise me if they held onto them just so Kojima wasn’t able to use the IP’s to make games with them.

It's only good if they plan on giving the licenses to teams willing to do the IP's some justice. i.e. dial up Igarashi/Kojima (Ayame)/Yamane and tell them to get started on a new 2D CV game immediately.

I am really surprised Sony would do everything for Kojima's d*ck. While they buying up the mentioned IPs I do hope Sony can arrange Suikoden series to Nihon Falcom or maybe Atlus. Nihon Falcom can do justice to the series and I am dying to know what is going on in Harmonia and the story of Hikusaak. Heck Sony could take over the franchise and revive their JRPG department. Maybe someday we will even see Legend of Dragoon 2.

So they buy MGS and silent hills then commission Kojima to build new console exclusive versions.

The rumors say they planning to reboot Castlevania into bloodborne styled game. Sony Studios Japan does have experience in making Souls game, they assisted in both Demons Souls and Bloodborne. Not sure to what extend.

Lazy copy/paste from other thread.

Lame scenario would be those IPs becoming exclusive. Extra shit scenario would be those IPs following the Sony 1st party template.

But would rather take that risk than have those IPs sit dormant in the Konami basement. And if Sony picks the right people to head those projects, could actually turn out great.

MGS has always been a cinematic 3rd person series, so in a way it works. But where it separates itself from the pack is in its depth, replayability, and willingness to experiment. Even with all of its cinematic flair and overly long cutscenes, they were still very "gamey" games. Needs to retain that. I know the obvious answer is let Kojima go at it, just not sure if he'd even want to.

Castlevania, not even sure where to go with that. Just know I don't want more Lords of Shadow. Lament of Innocence was the only 3d CV I liked, but would prefer they go 2d, maybe get Igarashi on board.

Not well versed enough on SH or its development history, no opinion there.

Anyways, just sounds too crazy to be true.

@sakaixx said:

That'd be cool. In a way, Bloodborne kinda felt like the 3d CV I always wanted.

If they took a faster, streamlined, almost more "arcadey" take on the Soulslike, go more vertical with the level design with a more agile player character, and full on CV style from the visuals to the music? Shit, sold.

Kojima now running Sony lol. Hopefully Sony does waste money on these IP's as Castlevania & Silent Hill haven't been relevant in over a decade and MGS is overrated.

I wonder how much the MGS/Castlevania/SH IP is worth?

Anyway, if they can't just upright buy the IPs, can they just rent out the license to Sony and Konami gets a cut of the potential sales.

Wonder how that'll play out as they're already making two new SH games at the moment. Maybe if they both flop it would be an easy buy.

That would be crazy if Sony does buy their IP. That would be like Sony buying Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry from Capcom, and seeing Konami losing their most well known IPs would be weird to me.

I'd like to see this, but don't see how it could happen. Just because we haven't seen these IPs in the form we care for doesn't mean Konami's not utilizing them. MGS is being used, as far as I'm aware, to great profit for pachinko, as is Castlevania, as is Silent Hill.

Maybe Konami would be willing to license Sony these properties to take over traditional game development for consoles and on PC and cut them a large portion of the profits, but in terms of selling them completely? Yeah, I don't buy they're in talks for that for one second. Konami would be selling their very bread and butter, and it'd be business suicide.

EDIT: nevermind, see that's what they're doing. Thought they wanted the IPs entirely, not licensed. Carry on, and AMEN. Bring that **** on.

OP, your title's a bit misleading.

I've played 2 or 3 MGS games and lets be honest they're average at best, and Kojima is way overrated by his fans (the indoctrinated ones lol)

I have never played Castlevania as it doesn't interest me.

I played Silent Hill and finished it and lasted a couple of hours in SH2, and lets be honest its an average series, and very niche as the whole series hasn't cracked the 10 million mark in sales.

Do you like them???

Ah man, that is a damn great idea. Had bloodborne have a more vertical area with more shortcuts leading back to starting place like in the first dark souls I can totally pass it being a new Castlevania game. Sony, buy Castlevania please. I personally want a castlevania set in medieval setting like the netflix show.

Konami can release games and make games and release it on all platforms if that's a interest to people. Pretty sure they did develop games.

Sony locks everything into there own echo system that u have to have to play them.

So yes they are anti consumer as they lock people into there echo system to play games.

If they are first party games they made themselves that's fine they are free to do whatever they want. If they buy games to lock them into there echo systems that's anti consumer.

Well yes, Sony has an interest in promoting their product. If they can save these IPs, they deserve to have them.

I honestly feel like Bloodborne is the modern Castlevania. It is what a 3d Castlevania should be. I would be happy with this.

I have no interest in MGS but a Silent Hill reboot exclusive to PS5 is pretty much the only thing that could sell me on the idea of buying a PS5 at this moment. Can't see it happening but hey, you never know.
