Gran Turismo is now OFFICALLY trash in sales and critical reception. lol

Halo is bigger than any Sony franchise now. An 8 million drop from GT5 at the hands of arrogant Sony.

Gran Terrible 7 incoming.

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-6-sales-revealed-at-2-37-million-copies/

As part of the ongoing litigation by Italian flooring company VIRAG, SCEA shared GT6 sales statistics with the Northern District Court of California. Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler’s ruling in the court documents show this number to be 2.37 million copies for GT6, bringing the Gran Turismo franchise to 72.6 million copies sold across its 17-year history:

gran-turismo-6-boxartIn December 2010, the defendants released Gran Turismo 5, which included a simulated version of the Monza Track. In the course of designing Gran Turismo 5, the defendants willfully and intentionally chose to include the VIRAG® mark on a simulation of the bridge from the Monza Track.

Sony America distributed the Gran Turismo 5 game globally, including throughout the United States and North America, and to date over 10.89 million copies have been sold. The defendants’ unauthorized use and display of the VIRAG® mark continued in Gran Turismo 6, which was released in December 2013. To date, over 2.37 million copies of Gran Turismo 6 have been sold

Your provocative, hyperbolic flaming aside, yeah, holy shit, that is terrible.

For reference, here are sales for all the other games in the franchise:

  • Gran Turismo 10.850 million
  • Gran Turismo 2 9.370 million
  • Gran Turismo 3 A-spec 14.890 million
  • Gran Turismo Concept Series 1.560 million
  • Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” 1.400 million
  • Gran Turismo 4 11.730 million
  • Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” 5.350 million
  • Gran Turismo PSP 4.220 million
  • Gran Turismo 5 10.890 million
  • Gran Turismo 6 2.370 million

Even the PSP game sold more, nearly two times as much! GT5 Prologue sold more than double! Launching GT6 on the PS3 a week after the PS4 launch was a terrible idea.

Ouch. Maybe it's time to stop putting PS2 quality vehicles in their games.

Wasn't the game's fault as much as it was the launch's. GT7 will easily hit 5 million, if not more.

@charizard1605:

It's not hyperbolic, a franchise that's selling 10 mill on average goes to peak at 2 mill.

Good

The DLC is the reason I didn't buy it.

Good that the market punishes stuff like that.

No, the game was pretty bad too. It may have been better than GT5 (according to those who have had extensive time with both games, personally, in my limited time with both, I appreciated 5 more), but 5 was still pretty terrible, so that's a low bar to clear. Yes, the launch had a lot to do with it, but the series had negative momentum coming in from GT5, and GT6 was bad as well, which damaged it even more. DriveClub, a game with a terrible, disastrous, shitty launch, without the backing of the GT brand, and a new IP, managed to sell as much as GT6 did, on an eighth of the install base. This is not just due to the install base, it is also because of the game itself. No getting around that.

That would probably be for the best.

lol lemmings. The problem is it was a PS3 exclusive released two months after the PS4 in December. They should have ported it over and made it a launch title like Turd 10 did with FM5.

Again, while the launch of the game definitely had a lot to do with the game's performance, the fact that it was pretty much a worse game than others in the franchise (it is the lowest rated game in the series), coming off of three consecutive stinkers (GT5 Prologue, GT PSP, and GT5), and the fact that the competition was actually moving on ahead (Forza 1-4 clown GT's efforts in the same timeframe) have as much to do with the franchise's drop as the fact that it launched on PS3.

Remember, GTA5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 a month before PS4 and Xbox One launches, and that game sold 45 million units worldwide in the months following its launch, because it was a great game. Just pointing to the launch and using it as a copout is disingenuous, sorry. GT6 was a terrible game, and the market responded accordingly. Plain and simple.

But of course Sony, the Jesus Christ of gaming was praised to high heavens for still supporting its console with GT6. Funny how most of these Sony defenders now regret that we're in the third year of new Gen with no sign of new GT on the horizon...

Thats a pretty big drop, thats what happens when you rehash your franchise too much without making major changes i guess.

Whereas I generally agree with the sentiment, we do know a new GT is coming up in 2016.

Just to further cement this failure:

FIVECLUB SOLD MORE THAN GT6 ON A CONSOLE WITH LESSER INSTALL BASE AND LESS TIME ON THE MARKET, AS DID FORZA 5.

Not at all into racing games, but that's a huge drop.

Back in the GT3 days the franchise seemed untouchable, where did it all go wrong?

After GT5 I think i see why it sold so poorly. I mean 2 million is good but not good for GT series. Hopefully they get back on track with GT7.

They take years to make games btw while MS turn 10 releases a Forza title almost every year and gets high scores and decent to great sales.

If this is not a wake up call for Sony then they should just close pholony or get someone else in charge because Kaz takes too long. Sony Japan has been mediocre Over years in the ps3's life and the good games they produced I can count on one hand. Terrible management there.

GT6 felt rushed and came out of nowhere. Which is odd considering how long it takes them to make each game.

@GrenadeLauncher: that is also a reason for low sales. I also would have thought Sony seeing how well turn 10 is doing would make them push pholony to change the series for the better.

Is there really a big difference between GT5 and GT6? It looks like they have been following the same design philosophy for ages and add micro transactions to GT6 was probably when Sony GT fans have had enough.

Btw MS Forza also have Microtransactions in Forza series.

Maybe the main reason really is the PS4 launch.

I don't remember it as well as Forza 5. Because the Forza thing cause major fallout.

But I do remember GT6 going along the microtransactions route that Forza 5 went and me going: "Screw that, not buying" Eventhough I loved GT5.

Poor Sony, in the gaming industry for two gens longer than Microsoft yet don't have anything bigger than a game that launched on the OG Xbox. Like they say, it was over when Microsoft entered the console market. Sony is just picking up scraps, typically.

Furtzuh isn't clowning anybody. The total lack of hype over 6 is proof of that.

GTA5 got far more marketing and - like you said - was released before the consoles were out.

Why is this a surprise? They released it on PS3 right after the PS4 launched. If the system was backwards compatible it would have had a chance. I'm a Cow and I love Gran Turismo. I played the hell out of GT5 but GT6 was absolutely pointless and should have never been released.

Everything Microsoft does is not automatically shit. Forza 5 aside, the series has absolutely embarrassed Gran Turismo since its inception, there is no point denying that.

GTA5 may have launched a month before the PS4 and Xbox One, but the bulk of its sales came after the launch of those systems.

What about the fact that Sony fans have been claiming TLOU has won over 200 awards for years now ?

I get it's a great game. And I enjoyed it tremendously.

But seeing Sony fans on these forums use TLOU over and over and over... for 2 gens now... Just makes it seem like there is so little to boast about, you know. It's the same game being mentioned over and over.

What does PS3 have ? Well it has TLOU, won over 200 awards

Hmmm, ok, what does PS4 have ? Well it has TLOU, won over 200 awards

  • Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” 5.350 million
  • Gran Turismo PSP 4.220 million
  • Gran Turismo 5 10.890 million
  • Gran Turismo 6 2.370 million

Even the PSP game sold more, nearly two times as much! GT5 Prologue sold more than double! Launching GT6 on the PS3 a week after the PS4 launch was a terrible idea.

That's exactly the reason it failed. Whoever made the decision to do that is a fool especially considering how well the PS4 is selling. GT6 as a launch PS4 game would have broken 5 million sold most certainly.

Who says this? They are wrong. PlayStation always sells more hardware and software than Xbox, PS3 aside.

TLOU is a great game (the only one in the PS4 library) but it's not bigger than Halo. Halo 4 sold more than TLOU.

TLOU collectively has sold, what, 11 million? How much did Halo 4 sell?

Sources?

If you're going to add up TLOU remastered, MCC counts in my calculation.

And how much has MCC sold? And, what, will we split those numbers up by four to get sales for just Halo 4?

Where's your sources for TLOU?

And yes, we will divide MCC by four to get Halo 4's sales.

@charizard1605: but come one that's GTA 5 you're talking about. Rockstar can release GTA 6 exclusively for the Wii U and I bet the system would get an extra 15 million sales overnight. That's the power of that franchise.

Just as an experiment I wish rockstar would try this but no chance in hell of that happening unless the game is fully funded by nintendo.

@charizard1605: yeah the launch time definitely hurt sales.

Don't forget racing games have been on the decline for years now though anyways, with publishers closing many of their racing dev studios

@charizard1605:

Didn't Halo 4 alone sell through like 10-11 million? Seems I've seen that reported a few times.

Fine, TLOU and Halo are on the same footing. But it's pretty pathetic that Sony only has one game that can compete with Microsoft's first Xbox game after being on top for so long and having much higher-highs (PS2) than Microsoft.

That GTAV excuse is weak. It would have sold at least 4 million even on a vita. GT reputation is nothing compared to GTA.

The launch of the PS4 is most certainly the main reason GT6 failed to see+ pholony not making high quality games that are enough to complete with the many competitors like Turn 10.

But of course Sony, the Jesus Christ of gaming was praised to high heavens for still supporting its console with GT6. Funny how most of these Sony defenders now regret that we're in the third year of new Gen with no sign of new GT on the horizon...

Bro, we haven't hit 2 years in until November

Furtzuh isn't clowning anybody. The total lack of hype over 6 is proof of that.

GTA5 got far more marketing and - like you said - was released before the consoles were out.

Why are you even trying dude? Some people just have zero truthful sense here. Hate what you want but that dude flat out lies about anything non Sony.

So nothing is bigger than Halo on the PlayStation side it seems.

Poor Sony, in the gaming industry for two gens longer than Microsoft yet don't have anything bigger than a game that launched on the OG Xbox. Like they say, it was over when Microsoft entered the console market. Sony is just picking up scraps, typically.

The Last of Us is bigger

Who says this? They are wrong. PlayStation always sells more hardware and software than Xbox, PS3 aside.

TLOU is not "bigger" than Halo. They have made one game in that world. Halo has crossed mediums dude. That's like saying Avatar is bigger than Star Wars because Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time.
