Poll So who is buying a PS4 now that its all "Pro-Consumer"? (60 votes)
I expect a high number of votes on this one. For or against Crossplay, god knows there were threads about it.

@knight-k: By lemmings you mean developers, Nintendo, ex Sony executives, Cory Barking (GoW director)? Basically anyone who's not a complete Sony fanboy?
The good thing about this is MS can save their money paying people to pretend to be mad about this and use it on games again... yeah, right.
Publishers are very keen for cross-play to succeed at this stage, and I don't know that Playstation could have held out for long without it, to be honest. It's one check in the cons box gone, but I'm not in the market for a console right now, and it's a "feature" all other systems support anyway.
It's one game. A game I don't play. Even if they support this on Minecraft and Rocket League it wouldn't affect me, as I don't play those either. I wouldn't mind if they opened it up on PvE games though, like Destiny 2(not the PvP part).
Nope. My intention for talking about cross-play was never about maligning Sony and their console. This was simply another win for gamers, period. There are other battles to fight. Perhaps if we can all stop it with the whole "my system is better than yours" pettiness for a moment, we may mount the same effort against other anti-consumer practices in the gaming industry, such as loot boxes and micro-transactions in $60 + Season Pass + Deluxe Editions AAA games, Microsoft charging for free-to-play games, and platform exclusivity, just to name a few.
But this is the internet, the real-life version of Warhammer 40,000's Warp, so most likely not. I'll take a win when I can get them.
Damn, cows really aren't taking it well that Sony caved on this
Man, the cows here are raging so hard right now. Be careful guys, you might hurt yourselves. ???
What is absolutely hilarious is reading how Microsoft can "stop paying people" to besmirch the holiness that is Sony.

Lol... yeah apparently only "lems" wanted crossplay.
Now there is a textbook example of someone who has their head well & truly shoved up their corporate overlord's arse. Wow.
Honestly, if a 25% market penetration and retention rate was that easy to achieve, then it would certainly look like it was a smart move. This late in the generation, there really only so much you can do to attract new audiences. I honestly didn't expect the needle to move as much as it did, and proved me wrong.
lol the poll is very weird. There is not an option that says "you own a Ps4 but think it is a great idea to support cross play."
I'm one of those. I cannot support Sony more than I already do as I buy all of their systems (and the other systems too) but I thought they were being annoyingly stubborn for no reason. That arrogance always annoys me. It is a good thing. They do not deserve bonus points just for having the standard.
Pro consumer? Lmao, No BC, no EA Access, and this new crossplay feature is for exactly one game at this point.

I know you lemmings don't even like games but, yes, Sony is pro consumer, they deliver some of the best games in the gaming industry and games is what matters most for gamers, clearly not for you though.
Crossplay is a perk, not a necessity. It's nice but not necessary.
Arguing over this is silly, but it will certainly be interesting to see how it's implemented by developers. While Shadowrun, released in 2007, was not exactly successful in terms of sales, it was a quality title that executed Xbox-PC crossplay very well; it will be nice to see a second "wave" of crossplay titles. Maybe play some Elder Scrolls Online with Xbox and PS4 folks.
With that said, this is like number 21 out of a list of 20 reasons to buy a PS4. Why on earth would anyone buy a PS4 for crossplay?

Delivers short movie games.
Not my fault if cows don't know anything other than those types of games.... It's all they've had for years now.
Sony are cruel for letting its fanbase get their arses handed to them by lems in MP.
The cows are used to playing with themselves...oh shit sorry, I meant playing by themselves (sorry I confuse those 2 all the time :P) how will they ever go playing with others.
Cows are the most socially inept group around, they get excited for game scores, sales, anime girls and not real life ones lol.

There may very well be some truth to that. I've played a few mp games on both Xb1, and PS4. Players on xbox are better hands down, and it's not even close. Early in the gen, I just chalked it up to Sony players not having party chat last gen, thus not using chat as much to coordinate, but the PS4 has been around long enough for that excuse to be exempted.
PS4 players just aren't as good. That's been my experience... Despite the DS4 being trash.

Better than Sea of Thieves or the likes where you repeat what you did the first 30 minutes ad infinitum and the only thing that changes are the color of the bandannas from skeletons.

Sure buddy, but due to the nature of it being an online game, the gameplay will change every time you play it. You might play one day and wreck everyone, but the next get outnumbered and get sunk repeatedly.
Those movie games will play the exact same everytime.

Have fun with that.
Can't believe they caved like spineless cucks, listing my pro on ebay.
Nobody gonna buy that crap now. Should probably just toss it in the nearest dumpster you can find. At least give the roaches it attracts a good home.

Hardly. One of the most common complains in all reviews is that it is quite repetitive and the initial impression wears out fast. It's not enough to release a MP game if it is shit, better to have a high quality single player game. MS has been severely lacking in high quality experiences this gen with the exception of FH. Most of the good MP games are multiplat anyways and one of the most popular ones is not behind a paywall like on the Xbox. There's a reason the PS4 keeps outselling the Xbox worldwide each month. But anyways the PS4 has single player games like Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 that are as long or more than even a game like FH which is the only game which you lemmings talk about consistently while shit like SoT and SoD2 that were supposed to be longlasting MP games were got quickly forgotten because they are crap.

That is funny considering Rocket League had cross play with PC since day 1 on PS4,and on xbox it was and afterthought months after another backlash happen.

You people should stop acting like sony didn't like cross play, sony didn't want cross play with the xbox one which is totally understandable after all the shit MS pull on them last gen, maybe if they would have been open last gen instead of trying to lock down on having more people on board of the xbox 360 it would have been a different story.
This is busyness i support cross play between all platform that was always my stance, but i do understand why sony flipped the bird to MS.
I checked with Microsoft to be sure Rodberg wasn't maybe just mis-hearing them. Maybe Microsoft wanted to break the barrier too? Here's a Microsoft spokesperson saying "no," while promoting how awesome the Xbox 360's online service is: "Xbox Live delivers the best entertainment experience unmatched by anyone else, with 35 million actively engaged members.
We have a high level of expectation for our game developers to ensure that all Live experiences remain top notch. Because we can't guarantee this level of quality, or control the player experience on other consoles or gaming networks, we currently do not open our network to games that allow this cross-over capability."

History is there and show who was more open and who wasn't.
Final Fantasy XI[a], also known as Final Fantasy XI Online, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), developed and published by Square (later Square Enix) as part of the Final Fantasy series. Designed and produced by Hiromichi Tanaka, it was released in Japan on May 16, 2002, for PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows-based personal computers in November of that year. The game was the first MMORPG to offer cross-platform playbetween PlayStation 2 and personal computer.

Before xbox live was even launch the PS2 already was cross playing with PC.
Bye way that FF11 was also on 360 and had cross play with PS2 and PC and sony didn't refuse, but MS did that early on because they wanted PS2 gamers to see the xbox 360 as a viable platform, after that MS simple took a lockdown attitude on cross play.
@tormentos: Why do you keep looking back when everyone is trying to move forward? We all get why Sony wanted to play hard to get. We know they were butthurt.
But how does that benefit anyone? Or how does it hurt Sony? Crossplay literally benefits everyone. If Sony is so confident they deliver the superior experience then they only have to gain from opening up and show how superior is their online service and hardware when facing others. Smaller developers get to have access to a larger user base. And people can play with their friends regardless of platform.
