The problem here is, games become popular in the streaming scene on their own merits. You can't make a game basing it on a fad, it has to evolve into it on its own within the community. Look at Halo 5. MS and 343 forced the multiplayer to be based around the competitive/MLG scene even though the Bungie Halo games became competitive within its own quality.
Sea of Thieves is going to fail in what MS wants it to be no matter how much money they throw around it, just like Halo 5. People are going to have some fun with it and realize the game doesn't have threads to sustain any longevity. It is as shallow as it looks.
