Seriously overrated games ?

1) The Witcher 1 and 2, never seen such clunky combat games getting so much praise. While The Witcher 3 also got clunky combat , but its much improved action adventure rpg game.

2) Call of Duty series , i think its high time they die.Activision and Infinity should focus on a new ip.

3) Souls/Sekiro/Bloodborne (FROM games). While lore, combat, enemies are super duper rocksolid but the difficulty spike's from NG + are plain torture for anyone.They just take away all the fun ( If you remembering dealing with bosses like Kalameet /The Four Kings or Ancient Dragon or Orphan of Kos or Fume Knight on NG +)

Witcher 1 and 2 were painful to sit through. CoD will never die even tho their games are wildly overrated. Only souls game I finished was lords of the fallen and that is because i cheesed half the bosses with ranged attacks.

Nothing is more overrated than Halo Infinite. Giving a 9/10 for a 6/10 game is criminal.

Unpopular opinion. God of War. The game looks and feels awesome but bosses and enemies are terribly recycled, exploration beyond the main path is mostly padding, environments mostly generic (apart from that one giant section where you climb its body).

The much praised new "direction" for Kratos's character assumes nobody has actually played the older games and followed the story. Kratos was always much, much more than an angry guy.

Older games had so much visual flair and creative locations showing some amazing scale using unique camera angles and positions. Off the top of my head, there is a massive stone chariot in the second game where you run on the chains and it slowly comes into focus. First game had a titan carrying a temple. The new game looks more like generic fantasy and is too scared to run wild with the visuals like the first three games did.

One thing the new game does really well is the combat style and animation. However the lack of enemy variety never pushes the combat to its potential. Everything else is average at best.

RDR2 - huge production value, full of density, but not fun

GoW2018 - huge production value, Valkyries look awesome, not as fun as the earlier titles, and I played them after

Spiderman - best web-swinging, nice looking city, boring/generic gameplay, combat is like batman but less satisfying

Not bad games, but for the praise they garner... they should be better.

CoD has run it's course...a decade ago. Try something new.

Witcher is cool... but not THAT cool. It does some stuff well, but I just don't love how it feels.

Souls games are, like you said, amazing in certain aspects. I just think they've made too many of them.

I don't want it anymore.

God of war 2018 - one of the worst game of all time. perfect example of how not to make a game. this getting 10s everywhere? proven how paid gaming journalist are.

Tomb raider 2013 - another great example of how not to make a video game. not a single thing about this game is good.

GTA5 (or GTA in general) - Apeal to lowest common denominator, did not do anything right from driving to shooting to any kind of gameplay elements. trash series. again its getting 10/10 always.

Mass Effect series - boring third person cover shooter poses as RPG

The Witcher 3 - shit combat, controlling, one of the most overrated game of all time.

Red dead Redemption 2 - Excellent story, graphics, everything but gameplay.

Call of duty 4 (all of them but that was the one critics praise most) - Ruined FPS genre

Medal of honor allied assault - Ruined FPS genre before COD4. first FPS to have very restricted gameplay and design. start of downfall.

Far cry 3 (that one praise most by critics) - Step backward compare to FC2 in literally every single way, a game that made far cry series mainstream by bringing cutscene, cinematic addition, see through walls, and other dumbed down feature.

Assassins Creed (all of them) - original formula was bad but then new RPG formula is even worse. booring.

Gears of war - boring wall cover shooter

Horrizon zero dawn - Ubisoft style open world game that is praised by mainstream media because its sony exclusive. trash game.

Spec ops the line - overrated by gamers as this game was just gears of war with sand. or id say worse version.

Mirrors Edge - another overrated game by gamers back then when it was nothing more than run run jump. although mirrors edge 2 failed but this one praised alot.

Bioshock infinite - easily worst AAA FPS game ever ever made. this game is so bad that it made original Bioshock feel like System shock 2. I mean really.

Wolfenstein 2 - A movie game poses as old school FPS. new order was also bad but this one is even worse.

I already know god of war Ragnarok will top my list after the overhype god of war 4 got(it's a good game,not the masterpiece it's wrongly made out to be),followed by ubisofts horizon forbidden west.And in third place monster hunter world

There are many overrated games. Overrated games are viewed as bad games despite it meaning games that gets more accolades than they deserve.

The main one that comes to mind is GTA V... currently playing through it again on XSX, and I still think it's overrated. Not saying it's bad at all, but I don't think it's a masterpiece like many make it out to be.

Also, all Naughty Dogs' games.

Every game I don't like. They should ask me first before rating games.

GT7, pay to win crap with no damage.

Overwatch. Maybe I'm getting too old for the online FPS scene, however I tried multiple times and could not see what all praise was about.

• Halo- mainstream FPS for casuals
• COD- ruined the FPS genre starting with 4 by it's dumbed down gameplay
• Gears- cover dude bro shooter
• Every Arkane game ever made they are all generic with ugly cartoon art design looks kiddy
• Life is Strange girly game
• Metro series average at best
• Stalker janky garbage

All Souls games. The premise that you need to die a lot is stupid. I do like hard, challenging games, but Souls never caught me.

Tekken series. I haven't played the new games, so I am mainly referring to the old games.

Metal Gear Solid (except the PS1 version, which was something special)

MGS4 is still king of the seriously overrated game ever made. Death Stranding is probably right there besides it I would guess.

Zelda BOTW. I love that game and had a great time with it, and I think it's a major step forward for Zelda games in general, but against other games, it is really just a very well-designed open world RPG, not GOTY. In fact, the year it released, I had a better time with a couple other games in particular.

I think this is a thing with Nintendo releases in general. They make good games, but critics seem ready to praise them to the high heavens almost uncritically.

TES is heavily outclassed by other open world games in the moment to moment gameplay. Fortnite is mechanically outclassed by PUBG.

As for within video games are overrated things

• Magikarp Power characters. Why spend a few hours grinding up weak early game character when your current team is good enough. You are just wasting hours of your life.
• Button Mashing: YOu will almost certainly have a lot more fun if you learn some basic combos in the training room. and use those rather than mash A the rest of the day.

STALKER and Metro are pinnacle of FPS genre.

STALKER 1 wont be surpassed anytime soon. not even by STALKER 2.

When I first played Metro 2033 in 2010. during the dark times, during the COD popularity. my reaction was.

when I encounter dark tunnels, the dark and gritty atmosphere.

I don’t believe in the term “overrated“ because to me, it’s an subjective outlook that many people try to pass off as fact. There are games out there where I don’t agree with the praises they get (although not many), but I don’t call them “overrated“ because I don’t get, understand, or agree with the hype that they’re receiving.

@kazumakiryu21: Four Kings took me exactly 1 try on NG+ with my +15 Zweihander build. Kalameet was a lot harder, took me around 15 tries. nothing really big.

Only Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 had huge NG+ jumps.

Elden Ring, Sekiro, DS3 have very minor NG+ jumps. especially Elden Ring.

NG+ in Demon's Souls is like NG+5 on Elden Ring.

Games that only got high scores cause of the state of console FPS. PC had vastly superior FPS games back then. See Halo 1 / Halo 2 scores on PC (like mid 80s) to see what they actually deserved.

Then there is GTA IV. Easily the most trash game R* have ever made. A huge let down that was worse than GTA:SA in every single way. Thankfully the fixed everything up and GTA V is what IV should have been. Now that game deserves a 98 MC, not IV.

In recent memory Sekiro easily. What disguises how that game is overrated is that because the game itself is "harder" than most games, you end up getting scrubs making really bad complaints against the game because they suck at the game. Like cloud imperium did that one time when he made a thread here, you know classic you goons being bald frauds+souls nerds don't know what depth is, because this is their only melee based battle system they are even competent at.
