Dragon Quest.....I want to get into this series, but I have never seen a time where atleast two games were on the horizon.

Assassins Creed....I missed the boat on this in 2007 and have never been able to jump on.

Mass Effect....I always tell myself I will go back and playthrough this series but never have

When I was younger and had time to binge on games, id just buy three games in a series and get caught up. But now I have a stronger preference for new IPs or series that I am already involved with.

Call of Duty although I could see how one could mistake them all for the same game.

Start with Black Flag. It's the only one worth playing.

Start with BOTW or a pocket version. If you have a DS go with ALBW. If not then Minish Cap is fantastic on a GBA emulator. Link's Awakening is also really good. Any pocket Zelda except for Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass will do.

Metal Gear. I've only every played the 1st level of MGS2. But it takes me forever these days to finish long games, and the idea of plowing through decades of this series on multiple platforms is just not something I'm going to face at this point. If there was someplace I could jump in without being totally lost I might be inclined to do so

End of 2013 I think. The others aren't bad (well AC1 is bad), but they are hard to go back to as time progresses. Black Flag is a pretty huge game content wise for an Assassins Creed game. With it being under $20, its definitely worth checking out.

Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest: Just start anywhere, whatever looks interesting to you. As for FF, I suggest the HD port of X or anything between 5 and 10.

Assassins Creed: The new title is chronically the first one, so I guess that should work. If not, get any of the new titles. I would also suggest Black Flag.

Mass Effect: Well I guess going with the old trilogy is your only option, the new title seems to get a lot of hate.

In the end, time is your biggest enemy. I have tons of series and games I want to sent much more time on, but I just don't have the time to do so.

Mass Effect & Assassin's Creed. Also falling behind on Zelda since I only played 1, 2, Oot, MM, TWW, and TTP.

For Final Fantasy, one of the SNES or PS1 era ones.

For Zelda, it's a bit harder. I honestly recommend either BotW or OoT.

Final Fantasy: Bought 13 and 13-2 on Steam, havent started them yet.

Zelda: Wasnt into these types of games growing up but always wanted to try them.

Yakuza: Never played them even though i had a PS3 last generation. Really hope they come to PC so i can play in 4K/60. Still have my PS3 but its hard going back to such a low resolution AND jaggies.

Some titles just don't matter. Call of duty or Final fantasy are usually unrelated and you can pick anyone of them. Assassin creed or Metal gear games will matter however since there is some carryover in the story.

For me it's probably Resident Evil. I've played Resi 4, long long ago, but nothing else other than that. Metal Gear was one too, about a couple years ago, but in the last two years I've played all games in the series other than MG1, MG2 and Portable Ops.

Everyone who says Zelda, start with A Link Between Worlds. The perfect place to start, and also a fucking brilliant game.

Everyone who says Assassin's Creed, start with II and Brotherhood, which is even easier now that you have access to the Ezio Collection. Definitely play those two, and play Black Flag as well. I like the first game and Revelations a lot too, but I get that they may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Everyone who says Mass Effect, start with Mass Effect duh. Play the trilogy, at the very least. Andromeda is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, but it's still entirely skippable, especially considering the fact there won't be any payoff to all the story setup it has done, since there won't be any sequels.

Everyone who says Final Fantasy, start with either 4 or 6. Or 9, actually.

in terms of not being able to get into a series, because i don't own a console that can play them or i don't have the time to play the older entries ... LOTS of games, but this isn't due to the fact their are so many games.

a series that exemplifies this is Final Fantasy, there are so many damn games, i still haven't played any of them

I'm just waiting for someone to say Uncharted.

But yeah, that Atelier Alchemist whatever series is one I've always wanted to get into, but every time I think it's time I get discouraged looking at that endless list of games.

Only the numbered ones matter really. Of those, the PS1 and SNES era ones are the best ones to start out with (4-9, basically)

No, 3 is chronologically the final game in the series

Metroid, it doesn't matter, pick up any of them. I guess specifically for the Prime games, try to stay in numbered order, but that's about it.

Persona 5 has a great presentation though: colorful, vibrant, and full of action. I looked up the regular series, and they're basically the equivalent of watching picture silhouettes; the battles look like a more barebones version of Phantasy Star IV to me.

Oh, really? Wow, even better then, lol.

In the meantime, I'm sort of debating with myself and getting a vita to play Persona 4 golden, but I don't know if I want to spend more than $200 for a game that might show up on the psn store one day.

It won't show up on the PSN Store, but you can pick up Vita TVs for like $40, so you might as well just get that.

I had to look up what a playstation tv even was, lol. Yeah, maybe I'll do that instead then, thanks.

P4G is worth it, but just a heads up, the dungeons in that game are terrible lol. Every dungeon is Mementos, but with longer and more annoying floors

No, I'm aware, which is why I don't think there's any chance I'll like it more than Persona 5, but I'm still willing to give it a shot. At the very least, I'll be able to participate in these persona 4 vs 5 debates, lol.

For me, Fire Emblem, I played Awakening, have a 3DS, don't know what to play next. Birthright or Conquest? Or skip both and get the most recent release Echoes?
