Ratchet and Clank has long hidden load times.

I thought you can teleport as you like between different realms, but it turn out you can just like blink to different places on the same map, what is the different then with game like dishonored ,etc.

The only teleport between realms at the demo gameplay is a scripted animation, and it actually took 13 seconds. Lol

Personally I don’t get too fussed about loading unless it’s an exceptionally long time looking at a static screen. I’m just happy with going from the loading off of an HDD to that of an SSD in general. I can see how hearing this though could rustle some people’s jimmies. 😅

I was wondering about this issue myself yesterday, actually. Or more specifically - the SSD can be as fast as it wants but the CPU needs to be able to take all the static disc drive content and instantiate a world out of it (including AI, physics, etc - it's not just a matter of loading map geometry and calling it a day). Seems like you'd still have to be smart about how loading is handled on large scales - you can't just dump a bunch of lego blocks in someone's lab and expect the castle to be built at the same instant, if you know what I mean

I have been saying this for some time and certain members believed it was an attack on the PS5. The reality is that loading data is part of the loading process, the other is activation of the assets as you described. There is also a cost to managing the loading and unloading of assets in scene. All of this has to be managed for no loading screen experience. Too many fall victim to the idea that all of this data management is automatic because of "teh SSD".

Every new gen is the same thing. Overhype, misinformation and the belief that consoles are going to break the standards of computer science.

Like I said in a previous thread those rifts are load screens disguised as cutscenes. When I first saw this game I was wondering whether there was any player control during the rifts (like could you choose a rift to go into next while in the void) but the extended gameplay at Gamescom made it clear that they were load screen.

The fact they are so short is very impressive though, I think this speaks well for the next generation of games. If we only compare the SSD on the XSX vs PS5 then the Series X should be able to replicate this even if it is a second or two longer (that is just looking at the SSD speed and not the differences in GPU/CPU and RAM.)

The quick resume feature XBOX showed off when they showed Austin Evans the console had him switch back and forth between games in under 6 seconds. Since it takes longer to save than to draw data from the HD then the majority of that time was actually saving the game on the SSD (probably a 2/3 save to 1/3 load ratio). Both of these consoles are not going to be held back by their SSD

I raised this very point in the first reveal thread by @Zero_epyon. The rest of the internet is just catching on.
