“We are not planning on making a console version. We want no excuses, no limitations,” Willits said.
This is great news. Consoles won't have a dirty hand on the game.
Won't go on consoles at first but it'll reach them eventually. Why say no to more money?
Lawbreakers won't be coming to consoles either. Quake isn't an FPS catered to the peasants. It will be very fast paced and needs KB/Mouse for a full experience which the peasants don't have.

Quake 4 was catered to the xbox 360 peasants.
Even if this does end up going to consoles, which no real pc gamer minds, it is important that this was designed solely for PC from the get go.
This has huge design implications, especially for shooters. Designing around KB/M rather than Fumblesticks is great.

Which is why I haven't played it. Only II and III Arena. Still Quake Champions being a timed exclusive is a great thing as it means it will be PC centric in design and development.
too bad its online only game. should have SP.
dont be such a tool.
or it should be F2P or no more than 30$ at launch. no way any MP only game worth full price.

Good God PC fanboys are intolerable. Console peasants? I hate this place so much lol.
Lol why so serious?
Is there actual gameplay of this? Or just more shit.
You do know that Bethesda just released Wolfenstein The New Order and Doom 2016 both of which are acclaimed titles? Quakecon is just around the corner. The trailer is just supposed to make you excited for Quakecon. Why release so much info at E3?
@lordlors: Just too much negativity. They're games people. Putting Quake on consoles would in no way affect the PC version.

Quake required the player to make 180 degree turns mid air with a rail gun.
Yes it would.
Quake 3 Arena
StarCraft
WarCraft 2
Escape Velocity Nova
Hero's Might and Magic 2
Make PC....GREAT...AGAAAAAIn
As long as its developed for PC first or separately like Overwatch then I don't care if it comes to consoles.
@uninspiredcup: Ok? I still don't get how that would affect Quake of brought to consoles.
Control pads are shit and console FPS are not based on skill.

calm down dear, not everyone can be master race.
@uninspiredcup: Lol oh, you're an intolerable fanboy too.
Nope. Objectivity.
Halo became popular and groundbreaking because it stripped away multiple weapons and need manage resources. i.e. baby first fps
Call Of Duty 4 became popular because rather than require genuine input for the reward - simply playing the game will constantly shower the player with XP and unlocks similar to that of of an MMO leveling a player.
Quake = bare-bone skill
Shit controls + Different nature
PC hardcore for big boys (really impressive)

but i am right. this game badly need SP.
@MBirdy88: @uninspiredcup: I bet you all are the type of people who get upset when someone prefers consoles over PC. Plus no, Halo is a competitive arena FPS that requires skill. There's no kill streaks, no XP, no loadouts ( just forget Halo Reach and Halo 4 for a moment.) It's a competitive FPS. Call of Duty I'll give you, those games are garbage.
Anyway this is good news. Develop with the PC exclusively in mind, and then if they want to later they can always scale it down for consoles but the important thing it wont be limited for them.
This happened with crysis 1, and it was miles better than the sequels.

Sadly, while competitive FPS use to be a real thing, Publishers as well as the gaming press (Gamespot) have primarily turned it into a marketing gimmick - to make these games seem legit to the ignorant.
Most real gamers play games like Counter strike (again highly impressive stuff) - while the mock Battlefield MLGM's Call Halo tournaments are largely a joke with little boys from council estates.
Overall - console gaming removed all dignity

Ah yes, Halo, the game where characters move at 1 mile per hour, jump as if they are on the moon, and most of the weapons have auto aim.
cool. no wonder it has a massive esport scen... oh wait.
@uninspiredcup: @MBirdy88: You all are highly condescending. And you must not have played Halo 5. Everyone has sprint. It also does have an Esport scene, Halo 5 championships. And do all g FPS's need to be the same? Who cares if it moves slow. It fits Halo.
I dunno man, someone that doesn´t give a shit doesnt post in a thread about something they don´t give a shit saying they don´t give a shit. >.>
We do on System Wars. ;) **** shooters on any platform.
K man. Thanks for dropping by. ;)

But its Quake tho ;_;
Makes sense, after how they badly messed up Doom's multiplayer. Now, Doom is primarily a single-player game, so that's largely forgivable. However, Quake is very much remembered as a multiplayer powerhouse, so that load-out system and gimmicky and unbalanced power-ups just won't fly in a Quake game.
Don't be surprised if it comes to consoles later, though due to certain uniqueness of the PC, such as the ability to manage 8-10 different weapons while still maintaining the pace of the game, I would also expect the console version to be very different.
I wasn't sure about the OverQuake vibe, but I guess if it's not overdone and is balanced, it could add a new twist to the formula.
Ok? I still don't get how that would affect Quake of brought to consoles.
Here's an example from the freshly released Overwatch:
The same character, Widowmaker is overpowered on PC and underpowered on Consoles at the same time.
The same character, Torbjorn is overpowered on Consoles and underpowered on PC.
In case of Overwatch, the devs are commited to balancing PC and Console versions separately, which is why it wouldn't affect PC players negatively.
But it's just this one game, nobody else does this.
Quake has already been on consoles. It didn't work.
(Compare to the match vod above)
So you either make it work by dumbing it down or stick to the platform you know it works on.

But this isn't Halo.
This is Unreal. It should be extremely fast paced to the point were thumbsticks play poorly unless significant changes are made. Being a PC exclusive and designed solely for the keyboard/mouse from the very start objectively has huge gameplay implications.
I didn't think it was gonna be a Moba, I thought it was going to be a class based thing like what Overwatch does or what Lawbreakers sort of does. Which isn't fucking Quake, plus it's being done by Saber Interactive. Certain Affinity would have my attention at least (well aware Doom MP sucks, but their map designs in the Halo franchise are ace), Saber on their own has made Timeshift, RIPD the game, God Mode, and Inversion.
Not exactly enthusiastic about what that team could do with what was once one of the greatest arena shooters on the market, even if Unreal is, was, and will always continue to be better anyway. #Unreal4Life
Guess it won't sell as well then.
Their loss.
They said they wanted it to be a competitive esport title which are more successful on PC. Look no further than LOL or Counter strike on how much revenue they can generate.

Just calling it how it is. Halo franchise went out of fashion years ago.
