It doesn't really require a lot of effort if you have the numbers.

Well to be technical it goes offline all the time when it gets patched...I'm sure all that downtime could add up to a few days over the course of the years.

General populace =/= gamers. It's also damaging for Sony among their primary consumers. This isn't 'smart' in any sense.

Anything connected to an online network is vulnerable to hacking. The difference here is that the PC doesn't, and will never rely on centralisation, so if one falls that doesn't mean everything will - for your games, websites, everything.

ever run a server on a PC? i have been an admin and helped out on an SAMP server, loads of people try DDOS servers when they get bans and you turn down appeals, which cause more baww. Also there was one time a script exploit let a few butthurt players run rampant till i got on RCON.

To say it wouldnt happen defys even the most silly system wars logic.

If I go onto a hackers IRC and make a bold statement as hack me, do whatever you want you cant bring me down what will happen? OOOOOOO you mean my pc will become unsuable for....gaming,websites...everything.
If a bunch of hackers were pissed off at Battlefield 3 when it launched you can damn well be sure they will bring down the online component of BF3 with DDOS attacks. Don't claim PC's aren't centralized and are completely autonomy based in everything they do because they aren't there is a certain amount of centralization in even pc's they can be brought down, have been brought down and will continue to be brought down do not make such statements as anything connected to an online network is vulnrable to hacking then go onto say the PC has special circumstances Its very disingenous its a part of that every thing and depending on what hackers attack every thing will go down, specially since the psn service as a whole was actually taken down by Sony in response to outside interference not the outside interfence took down all of PSN.

We're talking about online networks and infrastructure, not your own system :|

If you left an open invitation for hackers to make your life a misery on your console, they would take advantage of that too. That's what happens when you leave any system with an online connection out and proclaim 'come at me bro'.

Otherwise, yes that's one game bought down. There is an amount of centralisation of online networks (why you didn't choose to use steam as an example is beyond me), however it isn't reliant on a single consistent network to play.

My old online game isn't working, Westwood online doesn't exist anymore? Well glad to know I can use a variety of virtual lan clients to play my games with other people - like GameRanger. If Blizzard's Battlenet is down, then I can play separate online games with the knowledge they can't be affected. That's the fact of the matter, your PC gaming experience online isn't completely reliant on a central service.

While it can be compromised, this doesn't mean there will be an eventual Armageddon of your online games. Which is why you know, so many games have a legacy of online play on the PC for over a decade now despite their closed networks not existing. Sierra may not exist, I can play Tribes 2, MSN Gaming Zone abolished, well there are plenty of opportunities to play AoE2 online. EVE down for maintenance? Well then I have options of other online games to play, don't I.

He is talking about all your games. If PSN/XBL is down, you wouldn't be able to pay ANY of your Multi-Player Games. Since PC's are open platforms, this wouldn't happen because most games use their own clients. So if one game is down, you can still play all your other games just fine. The only way one wouldn't be able to play any game online on PC is if, the whole internet crashed or got destroyed.

Corporate obnoxiousness? They're fixing the FREE service for you, buddy. How is that obnoxious? The person who crippled the system to begin with - who would also like to remain anonymous - are the ones being obnoxious.

I love how, after paying a large sum for a copy of a windows operative system, you discover it's so weak and full of exploits that you need to add external programs to prevent people/worms from infecting it. But a company fixing a free service so they can't do certain kind of attacks that would ultimately affect consumers is being a bad company

What about games that require me to sign into steam? I can't play quite a few games because steam pops up when i try to execute the game... Yeah Open Platform FTW! lol I don't mind the wait anyway as long as Steam is still active, people who have purposely limited themselves to one platform out of nothing more than fanboyism is where the real frustration lies... They must be livid!

Yeah they were compromised and decided to improve the security, i posted a few days ago that they probably increased their security so much Sony themselves couldn't connect but atleast they are on top of it, better this than "PSN is currently.. ah hell we are screwed, we don't know whats happening so we pulled the plug".

That and people need to realize that their personal info is on those servers. So would you rather your info be on the net somewhere while you play on corrupted laggy servers? Or do you take a break for a week and play something else, like on a PC or xbox while sony ensure that your info is safe?

XBox Live has had outages. STEAM has had outages. MMORPGs have outages. PSN has outages.

If it plugs into the wall and connects to the world wide interbutts, it probably has had an outage.

Is PSN an integral part of PS3? Yes, it is. People have every right to complain about something that should never have happend in the first place and was not the fault of the consumer.
