Playing got atm and the loading is at best a few seconds, why is it a game change if the ps5 shave off a second or two on that!??

I think the load times in Ghost were already fantastic. I'll get to finally see the difference between 30 and 60fps but I don't anticipate the difference being big or even noticeable on a game like Ghost.

As for the back and forth of backwards compatibility and its importance... I'm a Playstation gamer... have been since Christmas '95... probably longer than some of the posters on here have been alive. I value backwards compatibility. Always have. Always will. I applauded MS for bringing it back in a big way with the X1.

@xantufrog: actually a good choice. The stances combat may require some fast reflexes. You can enjoy the multiplayer updates as well.

@Pedro: How is it that you people still don't understand. It amazes me.

No one wants to play an old game with shitty graphics exactly the same way they could have played them on their old console. Not a single PS1 disc was put in my PS2, and even though I had the O.G. day 1 PS3 not a single PS1 or PS2 disc went in my PS3.

I didn't even realise the PS4 wasn't BC because its not something I'd ever consider.

However, if Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us 2, FFVII: Remake, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Days Gone, Death Stranding, etc all these awesome games that run in 1080p/30 on the old PS4.... If you could just put the disc in the PS5 and it runs the game in 4K/60 (4 times the resolution, twice the framerate = roughly 8x power requirement), then **** yes do I want to replay all my old games. That would keep me busy for like 2 years of gaming meaning I don't have to buy mediocre launch titles like Godfall.

There's a reason why I bought every single PS3 remaster of PS2 games and every good PS4 remaster of PS3 games, even though I still do this day have them on disc and my PS3 at least had the ability to play them. Did not even consider it. not once. But will not hesitate to buy the remasters.

if the PS5 lets you play every PS4 game in 4K/60, that is huuuuge, and would make me replay all of the games I listed previously. And probably more.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: It seems you lack deductive reasoning there, buddy. Let me help you:

If I have to choose between 30 and 60 fps, I will pick 30 fps every single time. I paid $3000 for my gaming PC back in 2009 and I ran Crysis with an average of 28 fps. Because I maxed out every single setting, resolution etc. I could have run high settings with ≈ 40 fps or medium settings with 60 fps, but **** that. I choose Very High / Enthusiast settings and highest res possible and ran it with 24-33 fps. Same with Metro 2033. I played that game in the mid 20s because I refused to turn down any settings or lower my res. Every other game was in the 40s and 50s though.

So when resources are limited, like they are on consoles and budget PCs (or even high end PCs trying to run Crysis or games in 8K) 60 fps is a waste.

But if you put an old PS4 game in the PS5, which is WAY more powerful than a PS4 (obviously) is having the game at higher res and 60 fps better than 30? well duhhhh.

it goes like this: 4K/60 > 4K/30 > 3K/60 > 2K/120 > 720p/240. For me. Most probably prefer 3K/60, but I don't.

I'd run all my games at 60 fps if it didn't affect the graphics/resolution in anyway.

But it does... unfortunately, so even if I buy an RTX 3090 PC, I'd hook it up to an 8K LG OLED and run my games at 30 fps.

yes I would rather have 8K/30 than 4K/120 in some games like RDR2, TLOU2, FF7:R, Death Stranding, God of War, etc. And then games like Doom, COD:CW, Warzone etc I'd play in 4K/120

Just FYI - the PS2 did a nice job smoothing the visuals on the PS1 games, and the PS3 likewise.

Wut.

This is ridiculous. I don't believe you have a PC, based on that post. Fire up your PC and cap TW3 at 30FPS, then cap it at 60FPS. It is a ludicrously more frustrating game at 30FPS.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: What money? My setup probably costs 10x more than yours. And I still would pick 30 fps over 60fps, because I'd rather play in 8K at 30 fps in most games than play at 4K/120fps. or 6K/60 but pretty much nothing except the Apple Pro XDR display supports that resolution.

Money has nothing to do with it. an 8K OLED costs $35,000 lol. That's about 12 RTX Titan GPUs.

@Pedro: Pedro, you said this:

"Game changer? That's an odd thing to say especially when the sentiment among Sony loyalists is that no one buys a new console to play old games. Not sure how playing old gamers better is a game changer for Sony fans."

I read comments like this all the time. No one gives a SHIT about b/c no one has and no one will. what is a gamechanger is being able to put old games in new console and run them at modern standards. You know like PCs can. You can get a new GPU, new monitor etc and play an ancient game from three generations ago like Half Life 2 in native 8K and get 60 fps or more when you might have played the game at 540p/30 fps back in 2004.

Sorry for the long rant, but the tl;dr reply is:

Sony fans don't give a shit about b/c unless it means running PS4 games in 4K/60, and running PS2-3 games in 4K/120, possibly with patched textures and stuff.

Do you understand now?

@xantufrog: You do realise that many games on PS4 Pro let you choose between running 1440p/30 and 1080p/60?

I choose 1440p/30 over 1080p/60 any day of the week.

Back in 2009-10 bought a high-end PC that had the top of the line Core i7 980 (or 990 whatever the first gen core i7 was called), dual AMD (or ATI, as they were known back then) HD 5870s in crossfire, SSD the whole package.

I could max out any game with smooth frame rates but Crysis and Metro 2033 often dipped UNDER 30 fps. There were plenty of settings I could turn down or just lower the resolution a bit but nah, I prefered sub-30fps with max graphics on those games over achieving smooth 60 fps with lesser graphical settings.

Don't get me wrong, if the PS4 Pro let me choose between 1440p/60 and 1440p/30 I would pick the former. and if my dual 5870 rig could run max settings at 60+fps then I wouldn't lock it to 30.

But I will sacrifice frame rates to get better graphics. Always.

(except games like COD, racing games etc.)

@Mozelleple112: What are you going on about?

Sony Ponies never stop to amaze. “I never wanted to play PS1 games on PS2, or PS2 games on PS3, or PS3 games on PS4, But I definitely want to play PS4 games on PS5!”

Get real junior. Speak for yourself, I still play Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, Fable, Halo, Crackdown 1, Conker ect. I could go on.

I wish Sony would include PS1, PS2 and PS3 games as BC. Would love to go back and play Twisted Metal games, Socom with the Communication headset, Resistance 1/2, Final Fantasy games on PS1 and PS2 were awesome.

Overall, it’s a shame Sony doesn’t have better BC options and it’s a shame they won’t share details about it.

For instance, tell us how the shit works. Is it like Series X where it raw powers shit to 4k 60fps or is it done by patches to just unlock frames? Does it add other enhancements like HDR? Come on, show us something Sony. All we have seen is sketchy Japanese “hands on” reviews and a console that was probably a prop.

At what resolution?

PS4 Pro ran at 1080p with unlocked frame rate.

Is it just using boost mode on that to get to 60 or will it be patched?

The article mentions BC so I assume it's the 1080p mode

so im sure the ps5 will do the same. same architecture as the series x.

Good that Sony is doing this instead of listening to demented fanboys that don't even play their games. Thanks MS for setting new industry standards.

so nin and sony did not have bc this gen and still won the console race.

besides the 360 and xbox one did not have bc at first. it took xbox all gen long to get there bc up a running.

but the ps2 played ps1 games, ps3 played ps2 games at launch. ps4 was the only one with out bc at launch. thank you sony for ps2 that was setting new industry standards because they were the first to have a console that can play last gen games without buying additional add-ons. like the genesis playing mega drive games had to buy a add-on.

fact is xbox did not have this bc feature until a year or 2 after the xbox one launch.

instead of making block buster games last gen they concentrated on gamepass and to add bc to gamepass. so gamepass had more games to add to the subs. to be able to add xbox and 360 games to the list.

now they have gamepass ready I hope they bring more AAA games next gen.

yes it did. but it only ran at 30 fps but it stayed at 30fps. were in regular mode it looked better but it dropped under 30 quite a bit.

performance on the pro for ghost was 30 fps but it can go beyond that its just the pro was to weak to run it at 60 fps.

Stop spreading lies. We both know the exact percentages, and they're much much higher than your 19.5% or the 18% tormentos spams in every thread.

Stop spreading lies. We both know the exact percentages, and they're much much higher than your 19.5% or the 18% tormentos spams in every thread.

so 10.28 vs 12 = 30%. how can 2 teraflops less = 30%. do the math.

so tell me these list of games that are better then the ps5 versions on the series x. tell which cross gen games will be 4k/30 on ps5 vs 4k/60 on the series x if this 30% is such a huge gap between the systems?

if the series x was that much powerful you know xbox would be focused on that if it was true. they be advertising the crap out of that power saying this game runs 4k/60 on our machine were ps5 version will be 4k/30.

if the series x was 30% was such a huge gap im sure we would be seeing games running at 4k/60 while the ps5 version would be 4k/30 but its not. or 4k/60 vs 1440p/60. but the same games that are 1440p/60 on the ps5 are also 1440p/60 on the series x.

so you can take that 30% which is 100% facts was a made up number from fanboys.

because less than 2 teraflops does not = 30% no matter what you say.

did you forget to go back to your hardwenzen account? not sure why your saying this to me? did I say something wrong? was it the 10.28 vs 12 teraflops does not = 30%? which it does not have.

xbox fans need to stop this 9.28 teraflop on the ps5. its 10.28 not 9.28.

ow wait now I know. yes xbox took all gen to get backwards compatible. xbox one did not play that many 360 games at launch that is does now.

they added games to the list as the gen went on.

gamepass this gen was they were on focus all gen long. which is working for them. but xbox was not the first to add bc or make it a standard to gaming.

ps4 was the only one that did not have bc and its because of the alienware in the ps3 the cell chip.

but don't give xbox the credit why we have bc on the ps5. when they started the ps5 they looked at it to be able to play ps4 games. the reason for it to have bc is going with the same architecture next gen.

same as pc. you get a new gpu it will still play old pc games. because it can read those old codes.

were the ps4 could not read old ps3 code.

@gifford38: How about we try this new thing of writing like a normal person and try to keep it within one paragraph or two? Because I literally can't bear to read your posts and I imagine most feel the same.

@BlackShirt20: How is it still hard to understand??? I thought my long post would be sufficient to help you guys understand a very simple concept.

I have ZERO interest in playing PS4 games on my PS5. Zero.

...Unless its 4K/60 remasters.

Just like I had zero interest with BC back in the day but have since double and triple dipped with (paid) remasters. Take my money.

@Pedro: Right, but I will also give credit to the PC community that has done this for decades. For literally being able to play a game like Half Life 1/2 in 8K/120 lol. which is possibly 64-128 times the resolution and 4 times the frame rate some one played those games in originally.

Now that this has finally hit PS5, I might for the first time in my life, put a game from a previous generation in my console.

@xantufrog: actually a good choice. The stances combat may require some fast reflexes. You can enjoy the multiplayer updates as well.

yeah i waited for the ps5 to play this game to. hoping for a ps5 updated version before I dive into this game.
