Holy Moses!! The PS4 will cost almost TWICE the amount of the XBox One in Brazil when it launches in Brazil on Nov 29. This is due to excessively high import fees and taxes in that country. The PS4 will cost gamers 3999BR (or $1850US). Meanwhile the XBox One will only cost them 2200BR (or $1016US). That is truly insane. Some of these systems have already been sold on EBay for $1500 or more because they will be impossible to find on launch day.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps4-costs-1-850-in-brazil/1100-6415637/

Anyone from Brazil still going to buy either of these game consoles? What will the prices be like in other countries around the world?

Sounds like they could use a computer instead, and just wait for a price drop in both of them. Sorry lem... just because the X1 is cheaper doesn't mean the price isn't too high to be bought. There goes your hopes right ? :P

I really feel bad for South American gamers. The import tax and currency conversation makes it horrible down there.

You could probably sell last gen consoles for more than you paid for them at the US release still.

I know its bad for some parts of New Zealand too. Graphic cards were insane in some parts of that country.

Who are you talking to? lmao!! I don't live in Brazil and I'm getting both systems. My hope of playing incredible exclusive games on both systems haven't gone anywhere. Sorry cow.

I just thought the amount was crazy and was amazed that the expensive XB1 would be less in certain countries. Over 4X's the U.S. retail price.

This is part of Sony's PR diasaster bullshi7t to make the console so expensive in certain markets that the demand will be low. This way they can say that they still launched in 32 counties (or whatever the number is) and keep face.

You know it is bullsh7t, I know it is bullsh7t.

MS can do no wrong at this point. Even if they are charging double but hey, Brazilians will be getting the most sophisticated console at only double the price. Sounds like a deal too good to pass up.

I don't really care as I don't live in Brazil. I thought the story was interesting because the PS4 was priced 4+X's greater then what it will cost in the U.S. The XB1 was only 2X's more. I'll be paying $900 for my game consoles, as I'll own both. I don't see either system as being weaker or more powerful. It's about the GAMES, not the specs. Stupid cows will one day understand this. Maybe hermits too, but I doubt it.

Again, on this thread this time...
Its not because of taxes... (Xbox one will have the same taxes applied to it, so what?!)
It's about Sony Brazil which is in charge for Sony products in Brazil, and the fact Sony will actually sell as much as it can produce in other markets... at least in first year or so.

Brazil is a wildly different market for gaming, and it would be ignorant to even think a comparison to the US, EU or JP would be appropriate. The economy is on the rise, but it is still incredibly smaller compared to those other places.

As always the PC wins. Steam has no taxes!

But the price is really retarded, quite clearly they are pushing their margins to the sky. Not even Apple charges such premium.

If anyone wonder why shit is so expensive here, they can read this shitty magazine:

http://www.economist.com/news/special-report/21586678-why-brazil-offers-appalling-value-money-price-wrong

Mind you, they fail to mention that the profit rate in many modern sectors (such as the automative industy) is -in average- 3x times higher than the rest of the world.

It's not because of import taxes (they play a part, obviously, but if it were solely due to taxes the Xbox One - which is not produced in Brazil, even if MS does make 360s there - would not cost a thousand dollars less than the PS4). Sony's doing a mighty fine job: while Microsoft has factories in Brazil, and Nintendo (as per Regis Fils-Aime, president of NoA) intentions of expanding toward the Brazilian market, they decide it's fine to ostracize the fastest-growing gaming marketin the world (32%/year - as opposed to the U.S.'s 1% and Europe's 3%). They'll reap what they sow when a few years from now they are completely unable to compete with an already established, and possibly loyal, XB1 user base.

By the way, things you can get for as much as or less than the PS4 in Brazil:

- a high-end PC, with an i5 4670k, a GTX 770/AMD Radeon 7970, 1 TB HDD + 120 GB SSD and casing/cooler (and you're left with around USD300,00)

- An Xbox One and a laptop with a GT 640M

(this one is specially ridiculous) - a trip to (and back from) the U.S.A., the purchase of a PS4 (there), eight nights of hotel and you're still left with USD 500,00 to spend on whatever you want.

As I said, the taxes do play a part - Brazil is a growing economy and it (tries) to protect national businesses by having protective fees toward imported goods. Still, that leaves over USD 950,00 unaccounted for (after taxes and an estimated import cost). Sony's trying to do the same thing car dealerships do here: maintain a profit/sale two-to-three times larger than the world average - the difference being there are less people that care about PS4s (specially when you can get a MUCH better PC for less, or an XB1 for MUCH less) than about cars - and pinning it on taxes. We -don't- have 300% tax rate for imported goods, folks.

I'm not too bothered to be honest. I'm happy if you're right. This is why I said what I said:

Gaming planet makes a harmless comment in jest that drug dealers (presumably in Brazil) could afford PS4.

Gue1 then sweeps in saying Brazil isn't known for Drug Dealing - that's Columbia. Trying to own Gaming-Planet, god knows why?

I then come along with information from anywhere that anyone can look up in order to point one simple thing out - illicit drugs are consumed in Brazil. So it doesn't make anything Gaming Planet said less true, there will be drug dealers in Brazil.

Black market recreational drugs - it's lucrative. PS4 in Brazil - it's expensive, so one mildly comedic conclusion:

"Maybe drug dealers will be able to afford it" - exactly what Gaming-Money said.

Like the fellow Brazillian Harlequin said, this absurd price is not due to tax imports, it's because Brazillians will pay for it if they want it, period. Then he proceeds to compare it to the auto market, which is exactly like that, i got my x6 m for 230k in US dollars, in the big cities like Rio or Sao Paulo, you will see people paying twice to thrice the price you american people pay for your luxury stuff, that applies to watches, cars, boats, helicopters. Some really determined people will buy their cars in Argentina or Paraguay and drive all the way back here, since said countries have normal prices, further proving that SA isn't the problem.

I think the only luxury market here that has similar prices in comparison to the rest of the world is the clothes one, stuff like Fendi, Gucci, Zegna, etc will cost around 20% more here in Brazil.

That said I will get a ps4 on launch day lol, i know i deserve a slap in the face, but i've played one since i was a kid with the ps one, and my brother will get the X1, since the first xbox we've gone this way lol, so we can play the exclusives and enjoy multiplats.
